We are not talking about Star Wars this week, although in a few pages it felt like if Kabuto were Qui-Gon Jinn being shown the clone army. However the this chapter brought some unexpected twists and possibilities to the story. In our last week's review (Home, Ch.511) we got mixed opinions results, in our research poll we have a tie between the people who thinks that only Kirabi will be captured by Tobi's Akatsuki and the people who thinks that Kumogakure will be destroyed, but Naruto and Kirabi won't be captured.
This week's review is really sweet due the quality of the chapter and because I'm using a new version of Gimp, with the ability to scale images and keep the quality and as way to celebrate this, we are going to use Kabuto's cover as the inner title for this review.
The joint forces
Finally we get to see the alliance on the move, it seems they readying g to launch an offensive on Akatsuki, which means that that Taki no kuni is likely to be the battleground for this conflict. Of course this only if the joint forces actually are given the chance to attack the hideout found by the squadron led by Anko.
In previous statements, the Raikage said that he wont joining an alliance that will compromise or expose Kumo's secret. These statements are now ridiculous, as more and more information about is being provided to other shinobi nations by Kumo itself. Having these preparations in Kumogakure actually exposes their secrets even more.
Now that they know about the success of Kisame's infiltration, they have decided to send a small elite group as back up, or at least is what the commander from the snow country proposed, Oonoki volunteered to protect them, but we don't know if he was planning to go alone or accompanied by a small group of shinobi. These plans could change as Oonoki's back cracks in front of the rest of Kage, this probably will lead to a rematch between Gaara and (dead) Deidara.
The Island Turtle
Well, once again Kishimoto sends a clear message to his fan base, or at least it feels this way. This will be Naruto's last training session. To explain it better we have to talk about the symbolism of "The Island Turtle", In many myths related with this being, the Hero meets the turtle when he reaches the peak of his story, either for training in this island or to watch the marvel of it's existence.
With this I don't say that Naruto won't be training to gain control over his new powers, that still a possible, but the mangaka is clearly sending the message that story of Uzumaki Naruto is reaching it's end.
Hachimon's side effects
This reminds me why I like Naruto so much, "The stronger the jutsu is, greater the risk for it's user". I like when think makes sense, Gai used the 2nd most amazing technique we have seen so far in the manga, a very strong one.
Is good to see a manga that lives up to it's core values, although sometime it feels that these rules don't apply to the villains, but that just until they are about to face their dead. It was really fun to watch this being empathized as a comedy-relief. I've always thought that the side effects of Hachimon techniques would feel like a really bad and deep sunburn.
Senju Hashirama
It really feels that there is a 1001 use for Hashirama's power, from mokouton to a Zetsu breeding machine. Is kind redundant this Hashirama and Rijkoudo relationship, while it as interesting to know more and more about Tobi's plan, is doesn't leave the awe effect if these details are approached from the same angle.
Finally we found out about what Zetsu is, he is the result of Madara's experiment with Hashirama's cell and Gedo Mazou. This approach however more than being really exciting, while an interesting twist... kills any possibility of building a strong background for Zetsu as character and now is clear that is not Zetsu who restored Madara's arm, is Madara who created Zetsu and uses his experiments to restore his own body.
However there still hope, it seems that only white Zetsu is a mass production clone, so the chances of black Zetsu being different to white Zetsu still open.
However while interesting that Tobi's declaration of war had a solid base due his large Zetsu clone army, still unknown how effective this army might be, this considering that Black Zetsu told to white Zetsu that he was too weak, the same told Tobi to him, so we don't know what might happen next, if this zetsus are mindless or just inactive.
The one that should not be trusted...
Kabuto or Kabutomaru as people call him these days, is becoming more and more interesting as character as the story progress. He was already an interesting character for his particular personality and for being actually the only unreadable character, you rarely know what he is aiming for. As example in the first part of the manga it would feel that he was actually forward to killing Orochimaru, however as the manga progress his loyalties towards Orochimaru becomes slightly evident, but still due his pesonality of Sadist, polite, helpful and dry sense of humor, makes him very hard to read.
Kabuto knows way too much about Tobi's operation and is the only one alive that really knows who is behind that mask, excluding Zetsu. Is clear that he knows about Gedou Mazou, he knows about Zetsu and Hashirama's connection and also have an ace against Madara under his sleeve. In other words he is probably the only who knows everything at the moment or already figured it out everything.
Kabuto is starting to feel like the real deal, the fact that people are giving positive feedback about his appearance this week, shows that Kishimoto has someone who could easily become the main antagonist (Vote yes for Kabuto as main Antagonist). Both sides are starting to to make their final preparations and both sides have people that should not be trusted. In Tobi's side Kabuto, in the side of the alliance Oonoki and the Raikage.
Is unknown how powerful Kabuto is and how powerful his Edo Tensei. If we look back at how Deidara die, you will notice that he died with his left eye closed and lines in his face could represent the first lines on his face from his C0 technique, or it could be the influence of the white snake, since the rest of the edo tensei summons seems to have similar facial lines.
Thoughts.
The alliance seems to be moving, but they don't know what Tobi have under his sleeve, unless the Hyuuga guy was capable of watching deep as seem in today's chapter. I really didn't like the idea of Tobi being experimenting with Orochimaru and I still believe that Kishimoto must find a way for him to stand by his own as character.
Kabuto is the real deal for this chapter and while the same is named after Zetsu, the truth is that you end having more questions than revelations, for example:
As for Kabuto, I wonder if he is good or evil. I hope he be evil as hell, but as I told you before... he is really hard to read as character, you don't know what is going to happen next. I feel pretty sure that Kabuto is going to whip everybody around, including Naruto, especially Naruto I must say... since he still need to learn how to control his new powers.
As for Zetsu, I'm disappointed. I thought he would have a more interesting background as character, I thought he would be a key to reveal the regeneration of Tobi's body and not the other way around. Kabuto
