If you had read any of the thread at all, you would doubtless know that I'm a university student. I've been out here in Japan on my Year Abroad as the third year of my four-year course in Linguistics and Japanese Studies.

And I may get around to translating the new Gantz Minus chapter at some point when I don't have far too much else to do ~~

Yes, "hage" literally means "bald". Just like "dickhead" literally means someone has a dick instead of a head. They're just insults. I don't translate "hage" as "bald" in this context in English because it would be just plain unnatural in English for Hiyori to go around calling everyone bald when they're clearly not.

Thanks for clearing that up and yes, it wouldn't make sense to have it literally translated as with most insults.

Say what got you into manga/anime, like what anime or manga got you hooked?

Hello Cnet, your a good translator but someone thinks your Naruto 458 trans is wrong.

That is an absolute mistranslation. To care for = 気にする (kinisuru); in the original text, it was written (with a heavy emphasis) as 本当に好き (hontou ni suki), to which it translates as "truly loves" or "really loves". Good luck to anyone trying to misinterpret or derail the true and original text in which pertains that Naruto loves Sakura. It is what it is, and no "translator" can change it to be otherwise.

The context in which it is written, and the emphasis embodied by the decibels connected to the letters, shows clear elaboration that Naruto loves Sakura, as is stated by Sai. Anyone can try to derail it all they wish; unfortunately for them, its futile.

Well, I certainly didn't mean to imply with my translation that it wasn't talking about a romantic affection; it's most definitely clear that it was. I simply don't feel that the word "love" is particularly appropriate as a translation for 好き; "love" is an extremely strong word that just seems wrong to describe the kind of one-sided affection 好き implies, no matter how much emphasis is placed on it. "Love" is a better fit for the word 愛, or at the very least 恋. I used "cares for" as a term that implies the same kind of sincere romantic affection without all the baggage that the word "love" carries.

Well, I can't say I'm too familiar with "denpa" in this context. It literally means "radio wave", which obviously doesn't make much sense. Edict says it can also be slang for "nonsense", which seems to make a lot more sense, so I went for that. That's all.

初期設定カラーイラスト＆設定資料集 would be "colour concept art and collected setting materials". (Ugh, can't think of a concise translation of 設定資料... it's just like, you know, illustrations and background information on the series ><)

I have a question about your last fairy tail translation, chapter 149. Do they really use the words "he" and "guy" to refer to midnight? His gender has been questioned so far and the manga has remained mostly ambiguous about it so I find it strange that just now they start calling him a guy.

On another note, if they really did call him a guy, do you think their statement would be prove enough to actually prove midnight is a man?

I've never thought of Midnight as anything other than male, but for what it's worth, no, there was nothing in that chapter specifically referring to him as such. Looking back, though, in his very first appearance (Chapter 133), he is explicitly referred to as male, so I think it's safe to assume that's the case unless proven otherwise ~_~
