My favorite cosplay. Most members should be pretty familiar with it :3c

That's Gai-sensei. Pretty awesome right? :XD Most members should recognize that picture as my avatar and alter ego on April Fools' during MH's prank, Kotaku :p

It would be pretty cool if world leaders engaged in cosplay :XD Honestly it could be a way to reach out to the youths, especially in cosplay-friendly Japan.

I guess this is a relevant topic... How open is your society to cosplay? Do cosplayers get stared at if they walk through the streets in costume?

Over here, we have cosplay conventions like twice a year I think, which I think is pretty good for the cosplay community. I've also seen a Sasuke walking around town, which was funny :XD He was getting stares but he just walked on. So I don't think we're that open to cosplay, but it's not entirely shunned either.

We celebrate Halloween so no one would bat an eye if someone cosplayed then. Any other day, however, passerby would give a side-eye towards cosplayers if they were walking down the street. There would be some level of understanding if there was a convention down the block although it would still be a bit strange.

2 days ago, i saw someone, who looked identically like Shuujin from Bakuman... man, i looked at him, and i tought: WTF?!

Also, i'm pretty sure he didn't realized he was dressing like him. I'm not even sure he knows about something like Manga :blink

So, what do you guys think about people who dress / look naturally like manga characters?

Heh, I was on the train back from coaching on the weekends during some convention or other, and there was a whole group of girls in black maid uniforms sitting there.

Hooollyy craap they looked so pro. It would have been weird to take a photo though.

And didn't Animea have Asuka's Seiyu come this year?

Wow, those are all interesting cosplay! I wish I can try it at least once. Actually cosplay community is pretty big in my hometown, as far as I know, but here in this new city I don't know much so I can't tell. ^^"

Whoa~~ Cool!!
I really want to do cosplay too but it will be kinda hard since I can't afford the money for it... T__T
Cosplay community is big here... Recently I saw some cosplayers walking around in my campus... They took people's attention, especially the one who cosplayed as Kuuga (Kamen Rider Black, I guess?).
I want to cosplay as Victorique from Gosick someday.

Oh wow, I've always admired people who cosplay, but I don't think I could ever do it myself. Everyone looks so!! o(★▽★)o
Can't think of the word, but I think you know what I mean? :XD
The cosplay community isn't that big around here unfortunately... or maybe I just don't know where they are (^^;;

Around here, if it's near Halloween, no one cares. However, if it's not, people just stare, so we're not open to it here. But hey, everyone is weird, so no big.
Funny story though: one of our conventions overlapped with the day of the rodeo, so the hotel, where the convention was at, was booked with rodeo cowboys/cowgirls and otakus. :XD When the rodeo-goers came in, their expressions were hilarious. They looked as if they were Alice in Wonderland. It was that strange to them. Cosplay is like another hidden, unknown world around here. Unless you're an otaku, most don't know what cosplay is.

Although, I think most of the time, cosplayers just get stares, has anyone ever gotten a rude reaction?

Well it's one thing to wear an akatsuki cloak for a Con and another to wear it for warmth. That guy always draws really rude stares as the passers-by think he's gone broke in the mind :rofl

But I don't think I've ever been confronted for cosplaying...I mean, who would stop a Ryu?

I've grown an interest in cosplaying lately and would love to try it out when/if I go to San Diego Comic Con- the one convention I really want to go to. I think I can handle the costumes fine since I'll be most comfortable wearing something that's not so over the top. (I also want to make my own instead of buying it online.) However, it's the hair that I'm stumped on. Some characters have hairstyles that seem impossible. :darn

I was thinking male hairstyles are harder? They all spike up in wierd ways and are incredibly difficult to shape even with like a bucket of gel...:crying

I mean you have heaps of anime characters who just have long hair which flows down; is that impossible? (I know nothing about girls hair :XD)

Unless you intended to cosplay as a bishounen, then that's the hugest pain ever. My only advice is gel, gel and more gel. Otherwise some hair spray or something.

You could use wigs....they sell anime-cosplay wigs online. Otherwise, you can get a wig from Party City or other costume stores and style the wig at home. It can get uncomfortable and hot if you're outside too long, but wigs are much easier to style than hair. (in my experiences, not sure about others.)
