Re: The Games Hangout Thread - E3 is on!

ARGH! Such a pain that God of War 3 comes out in March 2010! My second best Hack n' Slash game series and I have to wait this long..damn. Sadly this is the last chapter, :(

Really good games coming up for the PS3.

I finished Infamous yesterday. A really good game with excellent controls, graphics and the story is good as well. Anyone played infamous yet? The plot is amazing.

Come on November 2009. Assassin' Creed 2. Look at the trailers, set in Italy. Looks really good.

SW: The Old Republic cinematic trailer just made me want to get the game, but I'm still kinda pissed they didn't release a game with Revan as lead to finish off his story, might they might tell us in the MMO game, that would be cool.

Who won E3? I dunno, might E3 returned to its former glory, 360 and PS3 had impressive conferences, and 360 has an edge in the wireless controller department with Natal.

In my opinion 360 won hands down...Sony had awesome games, and I even felt like buying a PSP. Although they also brought their very precise motion controls, it only felt like deja vu. Microsoft brought something stunning, new. Natal is not only about motion controls, it's a whole new thing.

And meh...Nintendo was a fiasco saved only by Metroid.

I was disappointed that Square didnt bring anything new...the FFXIV announcement made me more annoyed than happy ¬¬ Why the hell do they need to insert the online games on the main series? It would be way more logical to separate them just like they did with Tactics.

Gamers won, fanboys lost.

However, even with that said... I'd have to go with Sony. They actually showed games that I'll be able to play relatively soon(who doesn't want to play Uncharted 2 after watching that demo?). While Microsoft, outside of Mass Effect 2 and Alan Wake, basically wow'd everyone with stuff that may come out in two years or ten.

Natal looks OK, and is an improvement over the Wii system... however, the kind of games one would be able to play seems sort of limited at this moment. While Sony's motion control scheme looks like its a nice happy mix between the two. You have the possibility of video control and handheld control. Many more possibilities as far as games are concerned IMO.

Plus, if you read the reviews of people who actually had hands-on experience with Project Milo - smoke and mirrors. The voice recognition(which isn't actually voice/speach recognition, its tone recognition) still needs a ton of work. Deviate from what that lady said in the demo and you basically just get a blank stare back at you. In the end... its a brilliant concept, but once again its something that is still 5+ years away and you probably won't even see it until the next Xbox comes out.

Anyways... my highlights
  • The Last Guardian
  • Uncharted 2
  • Alan Wake
  • Metroid: other M
  • Assassins Creed 2
  • Star Wars: The old Republic(amazing trailer)
Honorable mentions...
  • L4D2(valve is greedy. glorified DLC)
  • Modern Warfare 2(just not feeling the game)
  • FFXIII(just release the game already)
  • God of War 3 (as awesome as the game will be, not in the mood for it right now)
I could probably come up with 15 more if I really took the time to sift through the entire expo... but these are the ones that popped into my head at this moment.

Once again... Gamers won, fanboys lost... Although Sony won more:amuse

Edit: how could I forget... Vitality sensor FTW!

Ghostbusters is sick. The graphics are awesome, and the gameplay is sick. There's a lot of talking but it's pretty funny stuff. I'm playing it on professional(medium) and it's pretty intense. I recommend it, especially if ur a ghostbusters fan.
So far I rate it 9.5/10(only cause I'm a huge Ghostbusters fan, if I wasn't I would give it a 9/10, it's still an A grade game).

Can't wait for a number of games:
-Battlefield: Bad Company 2, loved the earlier installment and still play it today.
-BioShock2: played the first game, although took me a long time to get into the game plot(wasn't really paying attention at the first couple of tries)
-Assassin Creed 2

[*] L4D2(valve is greedy. glorified DLC)
I wish people would stop saying that.

This is Valve, when has anything they have ever done been sub par? So many people are so quick to jump ship. Trust in them, if it was suited for DLC they would have made it DLC!

Sub-par being used to describe playability/fun or content(hrs of pre-determined story based gameplay)?

Either way and by all rights... the game will be just as awesome as the first, if not even more awesome... that aspect isn't being debated here. However, are 5 new levels, a couple of new weapons and zombies truly warrant the "2" or worth the price of a new game?

The first game only had 4 levels... which is pretty crummy by today's standards. Of course, the multiplayer aspect is what really made the game fun... so that doesn't really matter, but when you release another 5 levels a year later - it almost seems like Valve knew they had a hit on their hands and wanted to get out a version as fast as they could. Polyphony Digital does this with their Gran Turismo series. They release a half completed version a year or so before the final one with the word "Prologue" stuck on the end. IMHO, This is eerily similar to what Valve is doing right now with their L4D series.

Basically, I'm just saying that its not a true sequel and that Valve is being greedy because they're trying to pawn it off as one.

But hey... just because I'm not happy with what they are doing, doesn't mean that I'm going to be like one of those 30,000 plus people boycotting it over at Steam.

Theres no point that can be disagreed with there. Sorry about that I probably came off a little harsh but I hear a lot off complaints towards valve and its annoying. I think if any company deserved the benefit of the doubt its valve. I think its a case of wait and see.

Anywayyy I have fsm knows how much more to say on the topic of E3 but I have to save it for another time.

Recently got Prototype and I have to say excellent sandbox game. I love the gameplay because of how smooth it all is I can activate different powers and moves by memory with ease and no upgrades are really wasteful. Plus the speed I can play this game at is great.

The graphics aren't the best but in Prototype the framerate is all that matters(and they do an amazing job of that, you can have a 100 people with tanks and helicopters flying around without a single glitchy area).

The story too has it's high and low parts, for instance the Web of Intrigue is probably the best idea I;ve seen in a hell of a long time especially how well done and mysterious the various videos are. But the main storyline can seem pretty cliched at times(*cough*Amnesiatic Main Character*cough*).

Replayability is defintely way up there love going through it again and again.

It's defintely right up there with Infamous(just not as polished but more fun).

Square needs to recognise the impact FFVII had on fans and give it its well deserved remake...I swear I would have a heart attack...I'm not really excited about this latest instalment of FF, but we'll see

PS. What did everyone think of the Microsoft annoucement for Project Natal?

for those who haven't seen it yet:

Same here! I don't know why Nintendo took so long to release the second game... :oh

Yeah, I also wonder that. But I'd asume that translating puzzles, or completly remaking them due language, is something that really consumes time. I dare to say that translating some average RPG is fairly simple when compared to adapting Layton to western communities.

That could be it; I watched some of the game clips on youtube and some of the puzzles won't probably make sense outside of Japan. I am so glad that they are bringing the game here since I almost gave up and thought that the second game will never come here. ^^;
