Yeah and still millions will be sold. Actually that's a good thing, thousands less copies of a game that looks like shit and has the length of two to three movies with narrow and small mp maps.

Game is really nice, a friend of mine is past his first dungeon run, before the revisiting begins.

I agree. I generally dislike the wii u. I think it looks horrible and the overall idea of the console is a disappointment to say the least. Those controllers are going to be ridiculously expensive. Especially, if say you accidentally damage one or break the screen. Ouch. I was hoping that they would focus on improving the wii console itself rather than going with a completely different console in itself. Sure, there are similarities but the "family" fun factor was key to the success of the original wii and I can't see that being replicated with this new one.

This is a console I would try out in a shop or exhibition show but I would never see myself purchasing one. \o/
Well, I would argue that just improving the console is not enough overall. It did not work all that well for PS3 remember? With the wii nintendo offered an entirely new gameplay style and it outsold the PS3 by quite a bit even though it had significantly less power behind it. In principle the idea of innovating gameplay is a great one and in fact the controller might do that. Still, that is no good if it does not enhance the multiplayer capacities which make family playing viable IMO. We also have to consider the old wii controllers will be usable which is good for familities which already had a few of those. Now, if the new console has something which makes them more precise in conjunction with the motion plus it could be quite something as far as gameplay goes. In the end if the precision of the old controller is enhanced it could actually work even if the new controller options are limited in terms of amount you can have at the same time.

The PS3 was kinda different as it's was introduced at almost insane price level. It can't really be considered a simple upgrade of the PS2 as the PS3 introduced far to many new features(Bluray for example). Sony designed it for a 10 year hardware cycle and in that end that bit them hard. They learned a painful lesson that a $500+ dollars price tag absolutely murders console sales. It took Sony a long time to bring that price down far enough to be competitive with the cheaper 360.

I think the biggest problem here is for Nintendo is going to be who and how the Wii U is supposed to appeal to an audience. As a person that winds up playing a good bit of video-games with children I can tell you that the Wii is uniquely suited to that. And as a cheap easy to use item it had great appeal. The Wii U seems like it's lacking all the elements that made the Wii such a hit.

All estimations of the price that I've seen put it in the same range as the PS3 and 360, which are both established systems with large libraries of games. Then there is the controller system which just doesn't look at all look child friendly to me. Which are both reasons that I think are going to make the family gaming crowd reluctant to buy in.

I would say there is even say there is a good chance it will end up like the DS vs the 3DS all over again. Where the casual gaming crowd just isn't interested at spending a bunch of money to upgrade. Especially when there is good chance their kids will end up breaking it or something anyway, because that has way of happening with toys..

I think Nintendo should have just done a straight up upgrade to the Wii to bring it into the HD era, use same controller system(maybe a little more precise if they could do it cheaply), expand on the internet capabilities so it would support more streaming services, better audio support, and take great pains to keep the price super low(around the $150 range).

Adding a bunch of stuff is not necessarily innovating. Yes, PS3 added a simply insane amount of features however overall gameplay did not change in the least with it. Most of the features would barely have an effect on gameplay... PS3 was by all intents and purposes a PS2 with better graphics in the long run. Wii was obviously cheaper which made a HUGE difference however there are also the elements of an entirely new mode of gameplay and a much broader marker for it.

Now, with the wii u it will definitely not be as cheap as the wii (250 at release) but there are also a few things to consider. It will have the same capacity as the wii meaning that it should not be all that much expensive than a ps3 or 360 in the long run. It will keep using the old controllers from the wii meaning that families won't have to spend that much money on controller, specially if each wii U can only use one of the tablet controllers. In this particular regard, the wii U is in many forms a Wii with HD plus the added element of the new controller. In this regard, the wii U should be more expensive than the wii however I would think the overall idea is to not make it significantly more expensive than the competitors at least. I would think that the console would appeal to people as long as it is not priced above 350 (specially for people who already have several wii controllers and motion plus and wii games...). Since they do not intent on making the consoles work with several of the new controllers, I get the impression that the new console will be very flexible regarding gameplay. The do desperately need to make their motion sensing with the old wii controller more precise though, they can't really expect to use the same level of precision with a new console and keep people happy. Given all of these, I do think the console has a chance to appeal to the family segment and the gaming segment(specially with titles like batman, assasins creed, aliens and from what I heard even grand theft auto). The way I see it, this can be either a hit or a massive failure and it all depends on price and how they market that using the old wii controllers is cost effective.

My main issue is not the price tag of the console itself ... the issue are the games. I'm an heavy consumer & 65-70 euros is way too much for a game (and with the current dollar/euro ratio, I let you do the math ... but it's expensive ....). Plus, the new consoles are not that reliable either. My PS3 got the YLOD & I didn't bought a new one. XBOX had similar issues. All in all, it's now less expensive to play on computer. With platforms like steam, gaming is now way cheaper on computer.

About the wii, I never was a big fan. I only see the point when you play with friends. I had fun with the wii that way but to play alone ? The wii is just too limited & the number of interesting games (to play alone) is too low. I would be interested to know ,in average, the numbers of wii games bought by a wii owner. It will be way lower than PS3 & XBOX.

True, game selection was always limited for the wii. I personally enjoy their classic games though (mario, zelda, metroid) so for me it was never an issue. Honestly, I got the wii almost solely to play zelda with the controller lol (and I am willing to go to any legnths to get the new zelda game even though I won't be able to play it until december). Nintendo has made a point of stating that they are working to ensure third party support for their next console though and their announced titles suggest they have had a level of success on that. I was always under the impression that pc games were more limited than for any console though. I would also question whether it is actually cheaper to do computer gaming. You do need a fairly decent computer for most new games (specially if you want to play the newest games with their full graphics). A computer fit for gaming is no small expense in the end. IMO even if you do not spend 350 dollars on a console you would need to spend that extra amount for the computer to be fit for gaming.

It depends if you're an heavy consumer or not. In order to have a very decent computer, you have to invest 200-300 each two year in order to upgrade your computer & maybe 500 euros each 5 years (it's just an example ... my "500 euros" computer is two years old without modification & I'm running Skyrim with middle graphics without issues). But still, most of us already have a personal computer in addition of a console. So, in order to compare, you have to compare the difference between a regular computer & a gaming computer.

If you buy 12 games a year for PS3: It's 60-70 euros per game ... let's say 65x12=780 euros
If you buy 12 games a year on computer via steam: with the many offers, I'm not sure you will reach 30 euros per game ... but still, 30x12=360 euros ...

So, in that case, it's easy to see what's more expensive and I didn't count the fact that the PS3/XBOX are unreliable & can go completely down after a few years.

Plus, most people are hacking games on computer much more easily than on PS3 for example. I don't because, as an informatician, I have the utmost respect for people making games.

im not a big fan of the wii cuz i don't like their controllers. To me the strongest point of nintendo is Zelda, if i had money to waste i would buy a wii U just to play zelda.
btw game are expensive only if you buy them at theirs release(otw u'll get a game for 20-30$ or even cheaper if you buy used game) And most of xbox owner hack their xbox

Well, you can pretty much hack any machine nowadays lol. I did it once, played 50 games, then undid it because it gave me trouble and since then I do things the legal way (still expensive specially now that I bought skyward sword even though I won't get to play it for another month).

i just checked the characters list of street fighter x tekken http://www.streetfighter.com/us/sfxtk/characters
im kinda disappointed, they didn't add c.viper or Juri. But the game look awesome. can't wait for the release. Also hwoarang will be a good substitute for Juri, since they have the same fighting style

They might add more characters to the list, scav.

"The crossover title will be out on March 6 in US and March 9 in EU, Ono confirmed at the New York Comic Con this week (via Capcom Unity)." That's far better than Tekken VS SF, which won't have a release date for a long time still.

I hate myself for starting Skyrim... it just eats away my precious time. Still have a big backlog and looking at howlongtobeat.com that game was the worst choice of all. haha

Was able to play the SWTOR beta for half a day, created a Chiss[fucking yes] Bounty Hunter. It's really WoW with the SW skin and a couple of typical BW choices, but I don't care as long as it's fun. Had some crashes at critical moments... in the middle of the flashpoint boss fights[dungeons] and shooting rocket's and all made me feel like a lil Boba Fett. I'm a bit confused to when it plays in relation to the comics and books though. I imagined Satele Shan[The one from the trailer] to look old from the portrayal of SW:TOR:Fatal Alliance, but for a Grand Master of high age, she still looks like a very young woman[just as in the trailer]. But who gives a fuck... :p

Obsidian Entertainment is making a South Park RPG.

Hopefully it will be good.

A little out of topic, but today I saw a guy wearing a Zelda hoodie. I'm pretty certain it was a Skyward Sword hoodie. Does anyone know where I could get one?
