**OOPS! could a mod move this to the tree of knowledge section. I kinda aimed a bit to high when clicking the link on the left menu and wrote and posted the whole thing without noticing where i was, thanks**

forenote: Pirates laff, landlubbers laugh.

You all know that all Pirates have their own distinct laughter. But up until now none of the strawhats have shown to have their own...

Sure, we've seen Robin and Chopper imitate the laughter of those they were close to when younger but they still don't have their own laughter.

and later this happened:

this was the first time i noticed it. Although it may not the first time it was heard(or rather read) in the manga

Back then, I though it was chopper who was laughing but then...

Could it be that Luffy is developing his own laffter, like a true pirate?

For a pirate in the OP world, it could be that a distinct laffter is a sign of maturity or strength.
A sign that he is closer to becoming Pirate King perhaps..?

Note: this may prove to be a load of bull later on. But right now, let's theorise a bit...

note2: both images come from NBST Edited Mangas. first image comes chapter 433 and the second from chapter 450

[mod=sahugani]moved. interesting theory btw[/mod]

well first of all, its "laughter" and not laffter.. =P

I doubt it means he's closer to be a Pirate King, but it's just making him more pirate'ish i guess :P

This is really interesting, ketwaroo :)

I thought that Luffy always laughed like that... but it's been a while since I looked at the older arcs, so maybe I need to do some reviewing

It would make sense in that they are all gaining their own identities - without any of the influences which may have constrained them in the past. Robin, to me, is the best example of this. Now she doesn't have to be the 'demon girl' anymore - on the ship, she is free to become whoever she wants Robin to be. However, even positive influences can be constraining - if Luffy always acted like Shanks, he'd never really become 'Luffy'.

Luffy, I think, has always been ahead of the pack in this respect, (an ironic statement with him, I know) so maybe that's why his Pirate Laff, as you say, has become more noticable lately. And, as it shows to me that he's becoming stronger not just physically, I think it does put him a step closer to Pirate King.

What was Gold D Roger's laugh like? That would be interesting to compare...

btw, sorry if this got super cheesy or anything, I'm a lit major so I tend to hone in on identity issues and such :p

no really, Pirates should Laff. L-A-F-F. If increases the pirate feelgood factor. Kinda like "throw your head back and laff in the face of authority"

All pirates we've encountered so far are true men pf the sea, Even Buggy the Clown(Gyehehehee!!) and Foxy(PehPehPehPehPeeh!!!)
Those two may be funny and all. But deep down they ARE pirates who have travelled the sea extensively...

Well not just any sea. The Grand Line...

So here's another theory. The peculiar laughter of pirates is a result of being in the Grand Line for a long time.
... except that doesn't account for Enel (YaH! ha ha ha ha!!)...

XD ~~ first of all ... It' takes a real obsessive fanboy to recognize this. Kudos.

Secondly Luffy is such a character on soooo.... many levels. It's only appropriate that his laugh be destinctive. So I think your right ... However I don't see how it's important or not.

have we heard others laff like WB and Shanks or even Garp i would like to know what they sound like

in jagurs case he was super strong and had his own laff

more important to me is the pirate spirt the laff just annoys the enemy when they are losing

i know. that's why I said it could be proven total crap later.

But its still worth considering, right? All other pirates, or rather all other men(and women) of the sea have their own laffter. Be it friend or foe. So why not the straw hat.
