Keep reading Yu Yu Hakusho. It's worth it in my opinion.

Anyway, to those that voted for Naruto 503 for being best color page, did you get the feeling that it also showed Minato's personality? I did!

My opinion:

Select the manga which is ended for longer than the others. Why ? Because older mangas (which already ended) are more easily forgotten, those votes are IMO more important than votes for a manga still ongoing.

No, we're actually closing our eyes and pointing. Whichever gets more random points moves ahead because fate (wanted to say destiny, but not as in the user destiny, and you'd all get confused. <_<) wanted it to. FATE IS POWERFUL!

Just ask Naruto.

To be honest, I prefer selecting manga not as well known because not only does it most likely deserve to be nominated, but more people will read the lesser known manga, or be more likely to. It's another reason why I posted links to the information of nominated manga, so people can get info about it. Let's say Beelzebub and Dragon Ball are both nominated for the best shounen manga. Since Beelzebub isn't as well known as Dragon Ball (which is probably the most famous manga globally), I'd let Beelzebub move on ahead to the next round. It'll make people say "whoa, a random manga beat a great manga?! I gotta give this manga a try!"

Oh, and I suggested just randomly picking or whatever, but that idea was shot down. <_<

Re: The MangaHelpers Manga Awards

I think for an award like this you got to select those manga which made a great impact on you. Not those which you think is worth to be recognized. If you want others to check out a manga you think is worth checking out, then just say so. Just saying...
I am kinda agree with zelllogan.

How about a preliminary round between the tied nominations? Will it be too much of a hassle?

Re: The MangaHelpers Manga Awards

The voting process has officially started and you are more than welcome to vote for your favorite nominees and to discuss about them as well as the other nominees for each one of the different award categories in their respective threads. :) The voting process will take place during the following two weeks, so you have 14 days to support and vote for the character, series or moment you think deservers to be crown as the winner.

Note: You are free to talk about the nominees you vote for but if you decide you want to keep that a secret until the voting process is over, you are free to do so as well. :) In fact, I think keeping said information a secret will help make the moment when the winners are finally revealed even better.

When discussing in the different award threads, please respect the opinions and votes of others. It’s okay if you don’t like a series or a character or an event that another person votes for and it’s okay if you don’t agree with said vote; but please do not bash the character, or the series, or event, or the person. The purpose of The MangaHelpers Manga Awards is to do something as a whole community while having fun, not to initiate any kind of drama or fights.

Below is the list of the official nominees of The MangaHelpers Manga Awards. Some of these nominees were completely decided by you, the members of the site. While others (the ones where breaking ties was needed) were chosen with the help of the MH’s staff. We, the mods, talked and voted for a second time as we tried to decide which nominees were the ones that we thought deserve to move on to the next phase of the awards, a.k.a the voting process. We tried to decide in the best way possible that is why said process took some days. Thank you for your patience, for your understanding and I hope you have a great time talking about the nominees, talking about who do you think will win the awards, supporting your favs and last but definitely not least, having tons of fun participating in a project as the online community that we are. ^_^

Re: The MangaHelpers Manga Awards

May I add my two cents? Please disable comments in the vote threads until AFTER the vote has been released.

You showed incredible foresight by hiding the vote results, since this will prevent imitation voting. Disabling comments will stop the usual deluge of "oh the Naruto/Bleach category sucks", which could skew voting.

Re: The MangaHelpers Manga Awards

Why? The discussion is what makes this tournament interesting. And this far people have well argued why they think Naruto/Bleach/One Piece "sucks" or is inferior to others, so it's completly okay. What's wrong with people sharing their opinions on the contenstants? Everyone is free to comment, so come for Bleach or Narutos defense if you feel like it!

And based on my experience with similar votings, most of the voters still go with the biggest mainstream options ignoring the comments.

Oh, and I think there has been more of praising of lesser read series than dissing the popular favorites.

Re: The MangaHelpers Manga Awards

I will have to agree with Ustegius here. Comments are what make all this fun :) After all, only a small percentage of voters even comment to explain why they have voted for whatever they did. Everyone is welcome to discuss what they think should win~

I don't think it will skew votes at all in the sense of making the votes biased in any way - if someone has brought up a good enough point to make another person change his mind about his vote, well, there is nothing wrong with that. I would not call that "skewing" at all :) The point must have been a really valid point to make the person change his mind! :amuse

Of course, bashing is not okay, but that will be dealt with if it happens.

I agree with the two posts above me here, the discussion is in an acceptable manner so far, and sometimes interesting. After all there is much more to it than just critizing other people's picks (which is very limited by our discussion rules anyways for these threads). Questions, promotions for certain nominations which simply are relatively unknown, and so on.

Re: The MangaHelpers Manga Awards

You have provided valid points. I guess the MH fanbase is not as "rabid" as others :P

I was merely speaking from experience, seeing the results of similar contests between various anime on the animecrazy.net forums, most of the comments were "Option A sucks! Option B foreva!" It droned on for pages!

And I didn't mean to question your moderation capabilities. I hope I didn't cause offence.

Re: The MangaHelpers Manga Awards

For the next Mangahelpers Manga Awards, I hope the moderators will add some categories. Some ideas ... (not all mine ...)

Best Mangaka : Inoue, Urasawa, Tezuka, Toriyama ...
Best Villain Organization: Akatsuki, Espada, Genei Ryodan (HxH), Demon card (RAVE), Homonculii (FMA) ...
Best Sports Manga: Hajime No Ippo, Eyeshield 21, Prince of tennis, Real, Slam Dunk, ...
Most Disturbing Manga: Koroshiya ichi, Homonculus, Gantz, Berserk, Elfen Lied, Shamo ...
Best Death:
Ace, Jiraya, Sandaime, ...
Best manga from last century: Violinist of Hameln, Ranma 1/2, city hunter, Slam Dunk, Dragon ball, YuYu Hakusho, Akira, Gunnm, Saint Seiya, ...

IMO, all those categories are more interesting than Best Hairstyling
