Did everyone forgot about this game, hmm?

Your probably wondering how come the thread is named 'Metal Gear' instead of 'Metal Gear Solid'. If your a fan of this game, your probably familiar with 2 games called "Metal Gear" and "Metal Gear 2 Solid Snake". These games were the first ones of Metal Gear Series, they were released for an MSX platform very long time ago. Those 2 games are the reason why the thread is named different than you expected.

Well anyway, Metal Gear Fans, unite and express your feelings about this game, write your thoughts, I'll add couple of questions first (yes, just like in The Final Fantasy Thread).

Have fun ^^

1) What's your favourite Metal Gear game?
2) Who's your favourite character?
3) What's your favourite Boss battle?
4) Story of which game did you like the most?
5) Which part of the game was the hardest to get through?
6) What do you think about Metal Gear Solid 4 game?
7) Which characters design did you liked the most?
8) How many Metal Gear games have you played?

Well... that's it.

1) What's your favourite Metal Gear game?

Metal Gear Solid. Even though Metal Gear 2 set up the game system, MGS introduced the whole theatrical flair that now defines the series. Without that, the games wouldn't be as fun. Plus, I think MGS has the least ridiculous plot and characters.

2) Who's your favourite character?

Probably Snake. He gets all the coolest lines. I like the Emmerich siblings as well, though. I liked the idea behind Fortune, too - the idea of being incredibly lucky as a special ability. Vamp looked pretty cool during his first cinematic in MGS2, and Phil LaMarr does a great job with his voice.

3) What's your favourite Boss battle?

The End.

4) Story of which game did you like the most?

MGS2, because it has the most convoluted plot twists of the series.

5) Which part of the game was the hardest to get through?

All of MGS3 was more difficult than the other games. The camouflage system felt odd to me, and isn't as straight forward as, say, hiding behind a wall. How can the player judge if a soldier doesn't have to eyesight to see through camouflage?

6) What do you think about Metal Gear Solid 4 game?

Along with The iDOLM@STER, it is my most anticipated game this generation.

7) Which characters design did you liked the most?

None of them particularly stand out to me, actually.

8) How many Metal Gear games have you played?

With th exception of Ghost Babel, I've played all of them. Though I never finished MG1 or MG2. I also missed out on the Digital Novel on PSP, but that's not a game.

Also, it seems you didn't mention the Metal Gear Acid series, which is a shame. People give it flack for its card system, but it's a very well done game that I recommend to other MGS fans.

What's up GrayFoxx ? :tem (from NarutoFan)

1) What's your favourite Metal Gear game?

Metal Gear Solid. I had played Metal Gear 2 before it, but this was a revolutionary game in graphics (at the time), gameplay, cutscenes, everything. Amazing game, one of my favorite of all-time.

2) Who's your favourite character?

Big Boss. The legend who started it all.

3) What's your favourite Boss battle?

The End. One of the best boss battles in all of gaming. Second is Liquid Snake hand-to-hand in the first MGS.

4) Story of which game did you like the most?

Definitely Metal Gear Solid 3 : Snake Eater. Stands out for it's excellent storyline. I can't think of a game with a better storyline off the bat. It's more enthralling than most movies.

5) Which part of the game was the hardest to get through?

All of them in Extreme lol.

6) What do you think about Metal Gear Solid 4 game?

I hope it will be as good as the previous games, hopefully even as good as the first. It's looking excellent so far.

7) Which characters design did you liked the most?

Solid Snake.

8) How many Metal Gear games have you played?

Metal Gear 1 & 2, MGS, MGS2: Sons Of Liberty, MGS3: Snake Eater. I haven't played any of the expansion packs or handhelds.

5) Which part of the game was the hardest to get through?
Anytime I had to use a gun. Totally not an FPS person.

Can't wait for it D: ....gah..I really hope it gets ported to the 360 someday...darn the prices of those PS3s :/

7) Which characters design did you liked the most?
Gray Fox.

8) How many Metal Gear games have you played?
All of them, not including Portable Ops (Must go buy that), and the Acid ones..and Ghost Babel? I think..or whatever that one was called.

Oh right, as a sidenote, the "cardboard box is my destiny" conversation in MGS3 will forever be imprinted in my mind as some of the funniest in-game dialog ever.

1) What's your favourite Metal Gear game?
- Metal Gear Solid 3: Snake Eater

2) Who's your favourite character?

3) What's your favourite Boss battle?
- Psycho Mantis (controller in slot 2!!!)

4) Story of which game did you like the most?
- Snake Eater, lots and lots of Russians and you get to find out what type of rambo style hell you have to go through for people to call you Big Boss. Also the ending <3

1) What's your favourite Metal Gear game?
Metal Gear Solid 3
2) Who's your favourite character?
Snake. Yes in part one, he was cold, but he's such a badass dude. He may state that he only cares about one thing and that's finishing the mission, but heh, he doesn't mind helping those who are helpless.
3) What's your favourite Boss battle?
Snake against The Boss. Such a great fight, not to mention the music.
4) Story of which game did you like the most?
Metal Gear Solid 3. It helped me understand Big Boss motives, and why he wants to have a certain dream be fulfilled.
5) Which part of the game was the hardest to get through?
Fighting Liquid Snake and the Metal Gear.
6) What do you think about Metal Gear Solid 4 game?
So hyped about. This is it. The final chapter on this epic game.
7) Which characters design did you liked the most?
Cyborg ninja. Such a badass suit, not to mention... he was a nutcase.
8) How many Metal Gear games have you played?
the orginal from NES, 1, 2, and 3.

Solid Snake

What's your favourite Metal Gear game?
Without a doubt Metal Gear Solid. Not only because it was revolutionary, but because it was really the first game to get me into war games and espionage games. The way the player could chose to either sneak past the guard unnoticed, kill him, or simply knock him unconscious was astounding at the time. The entire system of the game was completely new to me and it felt so real. I had played Metal Gear and Metal Gear 2 before this, but this was so different that to tell you the truth I almost completely forgot about the past two. All that and a wonderful storyline, cast of characters, and insane boss battles.

Who's your favourite character?
Vamp. His romantic "vampire" side fuses with his almost humane yet sadistic human emotions to create such a deep and interesting character. I was sad to see him go in MGS2, but when I found out he was in GotP, I just about blew my load. Long live Vamp! Oh yeah, and the bullet wound on his forehead is just so damn neat.

What's your favourite Boss battle?
Psycho Mantis. The first time I played this I freaked out, as I'm sure everyone else did. But I was younger, more naive, and more gullible than ever. So here I am playing my game and this fictional video game character is telling me all this shit about me. What do I do? I friggin' turn the system off is what I do. Then I go show my mom and dad and THEY flip out. After about thirty minutes of investigation, my genius family and I finally found out the trick. I still laugh out loud just thinking about it to this day. It was so amazingly fun. No other boss battle in the history of video games has brought my family together so close. Bwahahahaha! I love you, Kojima. :D

Story of which game did you like the most?
MGS3. Simply because of the depth Kojima went into explaining Big Boss' love relationships as well as his dirty past with his enemies. It was more than just a simple boss battle with The Boss, it was a tortured insanity smothered with lust and and a love so complicated that to this day (after replaying the game 10+ times) that I still have no idea what the hell went on between those two. Oh, and Raiden mask +1. Raiden rules. Even when he's naked.

ESPECIALLY when he's naked.
Which part of the game was the hardest to get through?
I'm assuming this is in regards to my favorite one. That said, the part I found toughest in MGS3 was...oh yeah, the entire friggin' game....on European Extreme. I have yet to beat the game in that mode simply because it's more frustrating than actually hard. But either way, props to Kojima, this is the first game where I've broken my controller because of a temper tantrum. :p

What do you think about Metal Gear Solid 4 game?
*See signature* It's going to be revolutionary for future espionage and war games. I can't say much more than that considering I haven't played it, but of the few reviews I've read it seems that many other people feel just the same. The storytelling seems top notch, the characters are just as deep if not deeper than past games, the graphical prowess would make Square-Enix's graphical department shit their pants, the music sounds amazing, and to top it all off, all storyline elements are supposedly tied up in this one game. Fuckin' A.

Which characters design did you liked the most?
Probably Metal Gear Solid. I like the classic feel to the artwork, but I also liked the designs of the in-game characters themselves. Other than that fact, it's mostly just because I'm biased and love that game the most, therefore I'm drawn to its characters. :p

How many Metal Gear games have you played?
Every single one. I also have every game in a special little collection in their original format, as well as special editions and other little collector's items. Metal Gear is the only series that rivals my love for Final Fantasy, which says a lot for me considering I'm an RPG addict (x10).

Woot! That's all I guess. I can't wait until MGS4 releases. I'll be there release day and probably won't stop playing for at least a day or two. :tem I'm ready to take down Liquid Ocelot!!! (and hear ole' Johnny get the runs again, furthered by insane laughter)

1) What's your favourite Metal Gear game?
It's a tie between 1,3 and 4...one started it all, and it caused me to fall in love with the series, 3...despite it's rough start (I played a few hours into it and wasn't too happy with it...put it down FOR ONE WHOLE YEAR and then picked it up again to find out I was 5 minutes away from when it started to really pick up...it was one of the greatest games I ever played) it really gave me a new love for the series that MGS2 kinda took away. And 4...beautiful MGS4...to me, there was absolutely nothing wrong with that game...where with MGS3 I had to put it down in the beginning becuase it was so boring, MGS4 suffered none of that...I played it pretty much straight through and was pissed I had to do things like eat sleep and piss. Everything about that game is epic...it has set the standards pretty high for all future games...and action movies too...holy shit hideo, good job.
2) Who's your favourite character?
Obviously snake...but I kinda like naked snake...I know it's pretty much the same character, but naked snake had a look to him. Old snake was awesome too...
3) What's your favourite Boss battle?
this is the most unfair question of all time...I like almost all the boss battles for different reasons...almost any sniper battle is great, whether it's wolf or that old geezer who was pretty much dead. but I think it's a given that psycho mantis is the most memorable...broke the 4th wall and did it right.
4) Story of which game did you like the most?
I think MGS1 takes it because it wasn't as complex as the rest. 4 might be better just because it wraps the whole series up and does it beautifully. 2 was meh...too complicated and kinda dumb and 3 was more of a set up for the rest.
5) Which part of the game was the hardest to get through?
I can't even remember, that's how hard it was...I tend to put those memories in the dark place in my brain...honestly, I can't remember a hard part...I just remember the game as a whole...I'm numb to the virtual violence...in MGS4, without giving any spoilers out, after you get catapulted...breaking in was kinda hard depending on how you did it...GUN AND RUN DOES NOT WORK...I don't care who you are and what weapons you have, it's impossible.
6) What do you think about Metal Gear Solid 4 game?
If it's the first and only MGS you've played, it's a confusing but extremely entertaining game...if played with the series...HOLY SHIT, it's the best game I have ever played, EVER...my god, the scale of this game...so epic...It's set the standard high for konami...so they either have to bow out, or raise up to the standard it has set...hopefulyl they go for the latter, but I'd perfer the former...I would hate for MGS to suck after what MGS4 accomplished.
7) Which characters design did you liked the most?
The BB girls, in both their forms. Raiden as the cyborg ninja, and of course, cyborg ninja himself (grey fox, was it?). Naked snake when he first turns into big boss, when he has his eye patch, has the beret and is saluting...awesome.
8) How many Metal Gear games have you played?
all the solids...I didn't know about the series until the first solid came out, and by then the 8bit version hurt my eyes and I couldn't take it. I stated the portable ops, but haven't gone far...

1) What's your favourite Metal Gear game?
Metal Gear Solid 2.
2) Who's your favourite character?
Solid Snake, who else.
3) What's your favorite Boss battle?
Between The Fury and Solidus.
4) Story of which game did you like the most?
Metal Gear Solid 2, just excellent, no complaints. MGS3 comes in close second.
5) Which part of the game was the hardest to get through?
Which game? Probably the tailing mission in Eastern Europe in MGS4 (so annoying!).
6) What do you think about Metal Gear Solid 4 game?
Big disappointment, easily one of the weakest installments. If anyone finds this preposterous and wants a reason, let me know, Ill happily lay it out for you. But for now Ill just say Metal Gear Solid peaked with 2 & 3.
7) Which characters design did you liked the most?
Tie between Ocelot from MGS3, The Fury, GrayFox, Raiden MGS2 + MGS4, Solidus and Solid Snake from MGS2.
8) How many Metal Gear games have you played?
Only the 3-D ones.

WHAT?! what was wrong with 4? I'm inclined to disregard your opinion simply because you think mgs2 was the best in the series...

WHAT?! what was wrong with 4? I'm inclined to disregard your opinion simply because you think mgs2 was the best in the series...

A) The gameplay was a rip from Gears of War (which I dont care for so no bias here) and had some moments of Dead Rising, all with the Metal Gear spin to it. Thus, it didnt feel very original like the others' gameplay. Despite that, it still managed to be entertaining but it felt a bit typical.

B) The Story was weak, dis-organized, lacked any flow and pace. The other games like MGS2 and 3 had polished scripts with good dialogue, a strong flow in its story. MGS4 has scenes that go on and on with convoluted dialogue for its own sake that could've been presented in simpler, quicker ways, not to mention the self-indulgent visuals which went on and on and on, mostly for the sake to show off the PS3.

The game lost any cinematic flair the series ever had, resorting to that typical, boring, disgusting video game CGI you see in every game such as Gears of War and Resistance and God of War. The cinematic "filter" it put on the cutscenes was what helped make MGS stand out but now its gone. And I loved watching those cutscenes back in 2 & 3! But now I just want to skip the ones in 4 because theyre so damn annoying (on my second play through)! Some of the relationships in this game were just awkwardly developed, the story becomes absurd real fast towards the end to the point of being preposterous.

Then of course because of lame writing and the obvious struggle to come up with new ideas, the Beauty and the Beast Corp suffers are no where near the level of The Cobras or Dead Cell. Then of course there's the cop-out of nanomachines as the answer to EVERYTHING. And why the hell did Raiden HAVE to become a cyborg-ninja? I love that concept but it was never explained! If anything, Kojima shouldve spent more time polishing the script before filming any of it.

And where the hell was the motion capture?! Most of the animation looked so...computerish, in comparison to the more realistic feeling movements of characters/character models in MGS2 & 3.

Part of me wishes the game didnt get made because the revelations, while some were cool and great, others were just uninspiring and to be honest it was initially hard to go back and play MGS2 and 3 without remembering that the mysterious Patriots are just some brain-and-stem looking computer program.

As such the replay value has become smaller and smaller as I continue through this second play through.

most of your beef with mgs4 could easily be said towards any mgs...especially 2...it seems to me that you went into MGS4 wanting to hate it for some and any reason...
