I was actually surprised at the low number of favorites I ended up with this year, 9 out of 220 total films, almost half of the usual number, maybe I'm getting a bit too critical...
I liked "Past Lives", really incredible, especially for a directorial debut, but it was missing that little something I guess

Hmmmm, inside out 2 was ok, had a few decent laughs there. Though the whole "puberty is tough" bit has been done to death though. Almost feels like pg big mouth at times.
Finally got around to watching Godzilla Minus One and I liked it a lot.
It was just a solid movie. Well written, mostly well acted, and left me walking away feeling happy I saw it. There are things I could nitpick about it but it was a fun time.

Just watched Under Paris on Netflix and I did not care for it.
Now for context I like somewhat bad monster movies. So I was curious what a french version of that would look like. Terrible, is the answer to that question. I would describe the plot as surrealist without intending to be.

Saw Twisters as well. I loved it.
It's just a fun disaster movie that's kind of written like a monster movie, in a good way. Along with a excellent cast of actors who knew what kind of movie they were in and nailed their roles.
- Robot Dreams: Very deserved Oscar nod. A lonely dog buys a mail-order robot friend. Extremely cute movie with wonderfully soothing and brilliant animation and visual direction. Strong and bittersweet message. 5/5
- Blue Lock Episode Nagi: Japan looks for star football striker by locking bunch of teenagers in a big trainin facility and have them play the Hunger Games. Sort of an recap movie from the first season. I don't think the new material really added anything to the story. Nagios and Reo where slightly deepened, but not beyond anything that the original series kinda already established. Animation was average TV quality, and I presume many of the new scenes from the end will be recycled into season 2. 2/5
- Sisu: Finnish action-comedy in vein of 80s Hollywood blockbusters. A lone goldminer runs into greedy nazis in Lapland wilderness in the bloody aftermath of WWII. Extremely stylish movie, with excellent cinematography, wonderful sets and costumes, as well was very polished splatter vfx that is joy to watch. Very satisfactory and funny ultra violent action. Incredible atmosphere. 4/5.
Doesn't this look kind of great? Was not expecting to see a Hellboy movie look good, ever. It's like they cut out the CGI and made a real movie. Hope it gets a theatrical release.
Looks way too much like a fan film to me, and imo the cgi looks really... not up to standard, let's say.
I understand that it's a much much smaller film compared to the other ones, but at first glance it looks really subpar.
I guess it's cool seeing a new installment take a "smaller" approach, but overall it just doesn't look like a real, actual film. Guess we'll have to wait and see.
This looks cheap. The effects are like from modern b-horror film. This story arc is bit more low-key though and not bad way to try reboot again, so giving it a chance. But the trailer is not promising
I personally liked that it didn't show or focus on CGI much. Previous Hellboy movies where like superhero movies built around CGI set pieces. This looked mostly atmospheric horror with just a bit of action schlock mixed in. That's kind of what I mean by Evil Dead.

This is an adaptation of a limited series from the actual Hellboy comic by the same name as the movie. A comic that was published before slender man was created actually. And unlike the other movies it's, according to the author, more true to the spirit of source material.
Didn't follow the comics at all, so I don't know if that's good or bad. But it sounds different.

Just saw the new Deadpool.
I liked it and had fun watching it. But I didn't exactly love it. I think that outside of the cameos and meta humor, compared to the other movies, the story is pretty weak. It's kind of just a setting to hang gags on mostly but those gags are pretty funny. So it all works out.
Deadpool and Wolverine: This movie was like the beach episode of the isekai hit anime of the season. I'm sure lot of people jerked all over it, but people who are not so deep into it or expect actual storytelling from their media are like what the fuck is this shit
There was no story. For an action-comedy it was mind-bogginly boring. Most the jokes weren't funny. The action wasn't intense or stylized, the choreography was actually most often a mess. The special effects were bad. Especially the opening scene looked like shit.
Got couple of chuckles out the cameos, and end credits were cute. But other than that it was an empty and calculated cash grab pandering the fans, with zero substance or originality to it.
