I can't stand wes anderson. Anything he does have the effect of a sleeping pill on me.
I sort of want to see Grand Budapest Hotel, but I sort of have the same reaction to his work. I liked Rushmore, but everything else he makes...idk. Everything looks the same, everyone moves a certain way, it's always the same cast. It's like a spoiled-hipster version of the Coen Brothers, except it's no where near as dynamic or interesting. Let's just be incredibly quirky and weird for the sake of it...:residentsleeper

Grand Budapest Hotel is a great movie, I particularly enjoyed Ralph Fiennes.

Well yeah, his style is unique and pretty much carries his movies but obviously, if you do not like that style, you will not like his works. Budapest is no different in that aspect, it´s quirky, weird but ultimately with a lot of heart.
Though their style is pretty different, i see Anderson as the inofficial successor of Woody Allen since the latter is pretty similar in that aspect.

I think the Coens drive a lot of inspiration from Woody Allen as well, the Coens also have a more sinister and darker element to their works. I watched Barton Fink and the Jewish screenwriter reminded me of Woody so much, the way he talks and behaves. All in all I think Woody set a standard for weird comedies and romantic comedies in the more modern era of film. It's art everyone steals from someone. :p

The movie that I enjoyed watching the most so far this year. Very nice soundtrack. Wooderson and Cynthia is a strangely nice pairing. All right, all right, all right!

Saw moses yesterday... Gotta say, It was pretty much what I expected it would be. Not too bad but not good enough.... Pretty average... certainly not worth the hype. The scene where all the animals arbitrarily start killing each other was fun and off-putting.

Pulp Fiction + Magnolia = Amores perros. Great movie! I highly recommend it. If you're a dog lover, I'm giving you a warning that there's a lot of bloody scenes involving dogs in this movie. One of the themes of the movie is Illegal Dogfighting.

Watched Who's Afraid of Virginia Wolf?, the brilliant "play" type of the movie setting is all a good movie needs, a beautiful story, breathtaking till the very final scene, it's an amazing ride into the psychology of the characters, as well as on the surface a "drunken night" with another couple. Fun, games, reality, comedy, tragedy all collapse into each other in the end as the film reveals itself to the audience for what it really is a sad story about a broken down marriage.

Saw Boyhood earlier today, really enjoyable "coming of age" type film. I love the concept of it; having followed this kid's life from his youth to early adulthood( the filming process took 12 years as I've read) and just the narrative of the film and idea of it in exploring the human life is quite well done. Highly recommended.

You really liked it? I mean, the idea is an interesting one but i felt like the movie, meaning the boy´s life, was "too" average and uninteresting. I understand what the movie is going for in turns of audience reaction but i did not feel like it worked to be honest.

Watched Selma, a pretty good movie, not a great or excellent one though since the movie is too ambitious but does not completely deliver what it sets out to do + there were some weird and unnecessary decisions made by the director (the violence in the demonstration scenes in particular for example). On the other hand, Oyelowo´s performance is convincing, at least from what i can judge by watching King vids on youtube, the depiction of events surrounding Selma are slow but cohesive and plausible and the portrayal of King not as a saint but a really smart man fighting for whe he believes to be right was refreshing, 7.5-8/10. I reckon it will be a huge Oscar bait though, simply because of the subject.

I actually watched Amores perros. Yeah great movie indeed.
But I never watched Pulp Fiction and Mongolia.
Dropped pulp fiction after 10 minutes because something came up. Never tried it again.
Are these good movies?
