The Karate Kid trailer does look good, and Jaden is a very cute little boy...but i still take issue with the fact that Karate is never mentioned. <___< Don't know if I'll see that or wait for cable at this point.

The new Karate Kid is utter crap imo. The original one will always be the best!

I can't wait to see how RottenTomatoes will slater this new version...

Hollow Kurono, after your post I think I will watch Ninja Assassin - after the trailer I thought the action scenes looked cool, and I think I will watch it just for this actions <without expecting too much from other things of course> xD

The kid is learning Kung Fu from an old Chinese man in China, not Karate from an old Japanese man in some run down part of god knows where... Crap I'm willing to bet that even the Hilary Swank Karate Kid would be better than this POS.

I was so happy when I heard there was gonna be a movie adaptation of the film, but after I saw the trailer I was so disappointed; the first thing is the cast!!! For me that's as key as the story in a live action adaptation. The only one of the current cast I'd keep would be Aang's character, I dunno about the rest

I suppose you mean how the fire nation ended up being south asian? xD Personally it doesnt bother me as such, maybe because its been some time since i last watched the cartoon and that i hardly remember the characters very clearly. But i can see how its a stinking point.

Although what annoys me the most is the the kid playing aang. Something about his...cheeks.

Well, the people from the water nation are supposed to look like Eskimos, and they've got Caucasians playing them (The kid playing Aang is also Caucasian). The people from the fire nation are supposed to be south east Asian looking, and not west Asian. I'm not being racist or anything, but I'm quite the stickler for detail. If they can't get even the minute details right, then why even make one in the first place? The whole cartoon was set in an SE Asian setting, which really set the mood for the series.

I agree... I don't like him either.

I saw an audition tape of an Asian kid who was amazing at martial arts and his VOICE!! His voice was perfect, he obviously wasn't formally trained to act from his script reading (though he wasn't bad), but come on, he's like 11 or 12. I think with a little coaching he would have been the perfect choice, but they wanted a white hero, so he didn't even get a call back. <___<

Anyways, if you watched the video I put up, try watching some of the others on that page. I found them to be enlightening.

I saw Shutter Island a few days back, and since then I've had this strong urge to watch awesome movies again. The only problem is that I've hit a dry-streak with movies, and have no clue whatsoever about which movie I want to watch. Anyone got any tips? I saw Shutter Island a few days back, and since then I've had this strong urge to watch awesome movies again. The only problem is that I've hit a dry-streak with movies, and have no clue whatsoever about which movie I want to watch. Anyone got any tips? I'm in dire need of an awesome movie that preferably is rather "recent"

What kind of movie?

I would always suggest watching Fearless for martial arts/drama, or Sukiyaki Western Django for a more zany hipster type martial arts. Not the most recent, but still bad ass. If you want something psychological and creepy try Jacob's Ladder. It's not newer, but rather, a classic. For some nicely done horrorish type stuff perhaps something like Event Horizon? I love that movie. Also not new though.

A newer more independent type movie I loved was Wristcutters: A Love Story. It's...strange, but very engaging, witty and all around enjoyable.

Big Man Japan is a brilliant Japanese Mockumentary which is a little slow and cheesy at times (but is still funny), but has quite literally the funniest ending I have ever seen (though it requires a certain knowledge of Japanese humor, which I imagine you probably have).

If you are a fan of DMC I suggest watching the live action movie. It's so well done I'd say that even though it's not a strict recreation in all senses, it's one of the best manga/anime live action adaptations I've ever seen, and very hilarious.

I thought Australia was a very good drama, and I liked that they actually got Australian actors to star.



Which reminds me of a nice point my BF made about American movies in general. He wonders, why do American movies so often use Australian men for the really awesome "manly" roles. LOL Think about that for a minute. They obviously don't ALWAYS use Australian men, of course, but think of the really manly Australian actors and how many movies we see them playing awesome manly men.

For instance, Christian Bale, Hugh Jackman, Mel Gibson, and Russel Crowe to name a few.

Of course we got Clint Eastwood, Marky Mark and Steven Segal... Erm...et me go look for some more...I know there has got to be a ton I can't think of right now.

AH! Found a nice thread with really good examples of manly American men, so I feel a lot better now.

I hope that isn't a dig at Clint, I mean putting him in the same category as Marky Mark and Steven Segal . Clint has played some of the manliest men in the history of film. Okay, so I sort of have a man crush on Clint Eastwood (circa 1970's) .

Anyways, anybody looking forward to seeing Hubble 3D at IMAX? I'm not really sure if this type of thing is up anyone else's alley, but I'm psyched for it. It's like space in extreme High-Def . Oh, and it's narrated by Leonardo DeCaprio if that's what you're into .

LOL well, I didn't even know that the lack of American manly men was a big topic for debate, but apparently it is. Of course there's plent of manly men in the over 50 category, but so much less in the younger generations, hence the weaker representation in the younger the actors (although Mark Walberg is manly IMO, in that he is by no means a sissy like many other pretty boy actors but he is also getting up there in age). Steven Segal? Well, yeah. I did need to go look for better representation, and I surprisingly found that most American representation fall in the 50 and over age bracket. :/

Al Pacino, Jack Nicholson, Denzel Washington, Sylvester Stallone, Clint Eastwood, Samuel L. Jackson etc...all older. Compare that with guys like that douche from Twilight and Shia Lebeouf... :/

Holy sh*t, what the hell is that movie supposed to be about? Stallone, Schwarzenegger, and Willis all in the same movie . Then throw in a MMA guy and a former Professional Wrestler. Add Jason Statham and Dolph Lundgren. Finally, mix with a little Jet Li at the end. This is either going to a be the biggest clusterf*** in the history of action movies or the best action movie ever (my bet's on the first one though ).

All I can say is there had better be no plot. This should movie should just be explosions, death, and boobs .

This is the movie I'm waiting for <3 Sth to chill out and relax, and watch awesome "action" actors all in one movie <of course I miss some of the "oldies" acion stars like Van Damme or Seagal, but nonetheless the movie looks promising> Action, action, and once again action in 80/90's style <I mean, action film made in the way such films were made when Stallone and co. were the "heroes" in their prime, so plot is meaningless, the action and BOOMs take priority>>

I don't know about boobs, but the rest: yeah, that's basically the film in short <3 Actually I have it "must to watch" on FW from the moment it was announced, so yeah, I'm already a fan of this movie <old action movies from 80/90's ftW! xDXD>

I haven't had the time yet to check out Ninja Assassin.

I love Fearless! One of my all time favs. The ending was beautiful. I haven't watched Sukiyaki Western Django, I'll check it out asap.
