Wolf of Wall Street is good but I don't think it's good enough to deserve best picture in Oscar this year. Either "Her" or "12 Years a Slave" should win, judging from the nominees. Kinda gutted with Phoenix being snubbed, but hey his relationship with Academy is not exactly in good terms so I guess that was taken into consideration too. Also, "The Great Beauty" should win Best Foreign Film, that movie is truly splendid.

10 Movies as Nominee for Best Picture is not even right in the first place. I think Half of them are just for "nominee recognition's sake alone" and no one really think that it was the best picture. Hmm. It's just 5 nominees before.

Adams may deserve the nomination, but truthfully I would choose Joaquin or Oscar Isaac over Bale. American Hustle is entertaining, but definitely quite distant from being the best of this year. I also question Jennifer Lawrence nomination as well. I haven't watched The Hunt, but for The Great Beauty I'd say it's one of the most innovative films I've seen for the last couple of years, artistically as well as the plot. It's simply a stellar movie, and with "Her", are my favorite movies of this year.

Lawrence won in the Golden Globes this year.

Jonah Hill's Supporting Actor Nomination was shit as well. He's not that good in TWoWS.

I'm not sure why Jonah Hill was praised in The Wolf of Wall Street. He was good, but he also acted as he does in most other movies.

It was expanded some years ago, probably for the purpose. I don't see how there's anything wrong with it, a film isn't going to win just because it was nominated.

I have nothing against Jennifer Lawrence. She's an okay actress, but let's be really "real" here. She went on this tyrant rant about her weight and catered to all this big girls about being proud of yourself and your body image, despite what Hollywood feels you should look like. Then, she made a statement about Christian Bale's weight gain for the "American Hustle" movie and how she basically put it out there that she prefers a "thin" dude versus a "fat" one.

To me she contradicted herself entirely, but I'm not mad at her, because she speculated on all this bullsh*t because Hollywood allowed her too, to sell two movies. "The Hunger Games 2" and "American Hustle" and dummies don't realize, Jennifer wouldn't have said all this crap about weight and body image before the first Hunger Games was released. She's catering to an audience, so they'll buy movie tickets with her in the movie.

Disillusioned marketing that picks at your self-confidence and makes you feel better, when your supporting someone, you think is "like" you.

I am not sure there is a contradiction there. Taking a stance against the implausible hollywood standards does not mean she actually has to prefer fat dudes over thin dudes. Its not like she told people they necessarily have to be too ripped to be freaking batman (which apparently was a thing for bale at a point) or anything of the sort. Well, I haven't heard what she said but can we blame her if she finds more physically fit dudes more attractive than less physically fit dudes? From what I recall her comments were more along the lines that she didn't feel the need to be as thin as hollywood demands which is a distinctly different thing from telling people there is nothing wrong about being 30 or 80 pounds overweight.

I agree that Tomei can act but an oscar for vinny is a joke. I'm a huge fan of that movie & she is good in it, but the movie is mainly Joe Pesci. It's a light comedy, not exactly the genre in which you find the biggest performance.

Now both Lawrence & Tomei can act. Anyway, someone who really can't act is hard to to find

Okay, hear me out.

It's not distinctively different to say there's nothing wrong with being 30-80 pounds more than, whatever Hollywood considers a normal weight, but then you turn around and completely say, your attracted to the opposite. That's a contradiction (in my view). Because if you truly stand by what works for you, you wouldn't care what a man (for example) looks like to you, if your talking about what your attracted to beyond the physical or what's perceived to you as normal. To me at least, she spoke on all that Hollywood / Perfection sh*t to sell two movies she was starring in. That's all I'm saying is, she's hyped up for the wrong reasons, which to me are contradicting.

I don't really see how what she says has anything to do with her performances, so I don't really care. It's not like what she said is controversial or anything in the first place. Saying people should try to be happy as they are doesn't mean she can't have her own tastes.

Alright, Alright. Obviously, you guys are fans of JL (not Jennifer Lopez), so I just see something entirely different is all. No Probs.

Anyhow, just saw the trailer for "The Budapest Hotel" and this is the second time that a new Wes Anderson film has slipped by me. Looks as promising as "Moonrise Kingdom" and can't wait for it this year. Alongside, "Inherent Vice" and "X-Men: Days of Future Past".

I wouldn't say I'm a huge fan of her's. I haven't seen her in much. If anything I'd say my assessment of it is rather objective, honestly. There's something "hypocritical" about every person in the world, I just don't think that's something severe or anything. I see what you meant, but I'm not sure if it's really a legit criticism or not. For the majority of actors/actresses, my opinion of them is based on their performances, unless they're a known asshole. Not sure this qualifies as such.

Anyway, I'm looking forward to the next X-men film as well.

I mean, I wouldn't consider it TOTALLY hypocritical myself. If a person says she doesn't mind if she gets fat or thin, does not reflect how she would prefer her partner to be. It's like saying, if we put it in reverse, that fat men (who may be comfortable with their weight) can't have a model for his wife. It's the same thing with her- if she says she doesn't have any issues about her own body, doesn't mean she can't be attracted to a more physically fit other half. Nature just directs that you'd want someone more fit to give you the better offspring so... I don't know.

Anyway, I'd been planning to watch either American Hustle or WoWS... which do you think is the better choice if I only had time for one?

Depends on what kind of movie you're looking for. For straight-forward entertainment, I'd say American Hustle is the better choice. WoWS is good if you're looking for wacky, unorthodox comedy movie. That's how I think about those movies, at least.

I saw WoWS. If you get offended easily, don't watch it. It is not a family-friendly movie, there's drug use, nudity, and sex. It's like, softcore porn. If you don't mind those at all, then I'd say watch it, it's a good and funny movie! Though I liked it, it's not something I'd watch again... probably due to the length.
