It's a great movie even for those who are not fans of Chinese cinema, martial arts, or war.

I saw Flags of our Fathers for the 1st time last night, then Letters from Iwo Jima came on straigh after but I fell asleep half way through so I'll try and find it again. They were both good movies from what I saw.

I saw 2012 today and it was IMO a very good movie. It's crazy just thinking how things like that can go down. It really sucks how California is the first place affected by the disasters.

Just placement. ;D Think about Tokyo, NYC...Angel Grove...you'd think people would leave Angel Grove after a while.

Any who, last movie I watched was Near Dark. Very wonderful vampire film with a western twist; very enjoyable (and they don't even say the word "vampire!"). Adrian Pasdar did a wonderful job as the lead; Bill Paxton was wonderful as a supportive role. The movie is highly recommended for those looking for a good vampire film with a more modern approach to it that doesn't encase "sparkling in the sun."

I think I did a review of Letters a while back ago, like in the summer. i really liked it a lot. Never saw Flags of our Fathers though.

I just gotta reiterate how much win Sukiyaki Western Django has. Seriously. If you haven't seen it, go and do right away. Especially if you like westerns...and samurai type movies...and kickassness.

And also Rambo. Rambo is so 100% win IMHO.

@Kusachu: I'll try and see that movie you're talking about. Being a big fan of Asian cinema; I'm looking forward to it. and you have to see Flags Of Our Fathers, it's not the greatest movie ever, but it's worth it.

The worst movie I ever saw was Battlefield Earth. They took an awesome SciFi novel and turned it into the... (stopping right here to cool down) Ok, I'm still ticked off and it was released back in 2000.

I kind of expected them to cut it down to the first half of the book since it was such a huge and detailed novel, but they took such liberties with the story that it was just a waste of time.

I just happened to come across something on Youtube to commemorate this wonderful movie... Battlefield Earth Made Better.

Yeah, I've been watching it; saw some amazing films!!! Although I'd seen House of Flying Daggers a few times before( Zhang Ziyi is so hot!!). They showed two of the Death Note movies, and a few others. Does anyone have any asian movie they would recommend? I'm really getting into it

I watched the first part a little over a year ago so I can't comment on the second, but here's my counter: disappointing. Of course, most film adaptations of cherished histories or novels are these days.

And what the hell was up with that soccer scene?

Does anyone have any asian movie they would recommend? I'm really getting into it

...Could you be more vague? In general, go with uncut, subtitled films. Dubbing and plot hacking will ruin almost any Asian film.

In addition to those, I'd also recommend: Fearless, Battle Royale, and Returner. Oh, and if you want some sappy romance one, watch the Secret. Good film, actually.

@kaliayev- Cujo is an old Chinese game (that football was allegedly derived from), never really understood why a lot of these movies had them. I try my best not to compare it to the books, after all the books themselves have been watered down.

Fearless with Jet Li. I love that movie emphatically.

I also like Verses a lot, although the story is a little weird (I thought it was weird in a good way). The Returner I thought was cool. Not the best, but I liked it enough to watch a couple of times. It didn't hurt that the guy in it was pretty hot.

Oh and Akira Kurosawa's Dreams is an amazing film. Visually stunning and deeply rooted in Japanese history and tradition. One of few I would call epic, but it's not for everyone I guess.

Does anyone have any asian movie they would recommend? I'm really getting into it

I would like to recommend martial arts ones:
- Master with Cracked Fingers <beware, I'm talking about the "1 version", because there is the second one which is composed of the scenes from the first version and the last fighting sequence is not even with Jackie Chan but some guy imitating him - this version sucks, so, yeah, only version 1 I recommend>
- Lady Kung Fu <or Hapkido> - really nice fighting sequences, and the first martial arts movie were the protagonist was a female fighter <3
- Dragon Fist - really good especially if it means for battle sequences as well as moral struggle of the main hero which was sth unexpected at that time in such movies
- Drunken Master - self explanatory <xd>, the film which made Jackie Chan famous xD
- Snake & Crane Arts of Shaolin - probably the best fighting sequences of old movies with Jackie Chan <to me>, and one in which he is a pro fighter from the beginning <not as it was usual: weak - training - strong in short xd>
- Snake in the Eagle's Shadow - not special, but I find particualr battle in this one of a very nice interest ^^

btw. all of the movies are from one genre: martial arts, and all of them are connected with Jackie Chan either way, so the story is the background, the good stuff are the fights and on that measure I label them as very good.
