Well he's okay in it, it's not his fault the film is a miss for me imo. I just felt like the dialogue was sometimes dragged out too long, I think the 1st scene of the film was the best, then it slowly got boring for me. I only watched it cos there was a lot of hype around it.

The movies you listed up there are very good movies, I still remember the first time I saw Fight Club; I thought to myself "This movie has been out for so many years, yet I'm only watching it now?!"

I haven't seen inglorious Bastards yet, but I don't really have a lot of desire too eaither. I heard a lot of bad about and not much good.

So which kind of movie is it? Is it a shining role for Brad, or a mediocre one?
It's a different sort of Brad Pitt, a very enjoyable one though :p. I personally have never seen him play a character like this before. If you watch for no other reason than to hear him speaking Italian :rofl.

I'll say this about Inglourious Basterds, though, it wasn't really what I was expecting, but still good. Better than Kill Bill and Jackie Brown, not as good as Pulp Fiction, and not even close to as good as Reservoir Dogs (but that movie is awesome).

The non-comical highlight of the movie for me though was definitely Christopher Waltz as Hans Landa, a.k.a. the "Jew Hunter." He was an awesome character.

So yeah give it a watch :thumbs.

Inglourious Basterds was, without a doubt, the best movie of the year in my opinion. I really like QT and pretty much everything he's done, though some movies aren't quite the masterpieces Pulp Fiction and Reservoir Dogs are. Inglourious Basterds is, though. It's not quite up there, but it's the best movie he's made since Pulp Fiction in my opinion, without a doubt.

Brad Pitt is great in the movie, I don't know why people tend to say otherwise. "Overplayed"? No, that's the character and everything that's so badassly funny about it. Also, I don't see why most tend to view him as the main character because, well, except for Kill Bill, Tarantino rarely has main characters in his movies at all.
The most memorable and astonishing role is played by Christopher Waltz, though. He's just all kinds of awesome.

Ingredients:
Superb acting.
Awesome dialogue, Tarantino style.
Kick-ass to the max!
Lots of laugh-out-loud moments (and lots of "whoa, that was cool" moments).
Beautiful visuals and delicately shot.
Perfectly fitting soundtrack.
I was blown away despite sky-high expectations.

I'm just pouring this out there since Kusachu said he hadn't heard much good about it. But it's the whole truth imo. :p

I work in entertainment so I need to ask a research question:

What types of films do you all enjoy?

What kind of movies would you like to see being made?

I'm not too big on war films, however, since I've never been that interested in war. Parody films are not usually on my list, and bubblegum pop stuff, like Twilight, are not high on my list either. Of course, usually movies driven towards children (not Pixar stuff, but like...Over the Hedge) are not my demographic either. Newer horror movies aren't my favorite either, since they traded the horrors of suspense for blood and gore.

That's basically it.

I guess the movies I enjoy the most are sort of hybrids. Movies that involve some action (not explosion boom boom style), drama, that give suspense, that have deeper meanings which adds depth to the plot, characters and movie in general. And some humour is always welcomed in movies as it makes you able to relax abit. Also I like mysterious movies, which makes you think like "what the hell is going on? How is this possible?" Take The Prestige for example, that's one of my favorite movies. The Dark Knight is basically a pretty good example of the above listings that I like to have in a movie, though it's not the best movie I've seen I think, but definitely among the best.

Also plots I usually enjoy almost every time are post-apocalyptic movies. To be honest I find them like 90% of the times really cool for some reason.

Hmmm...well, intelligent, witty, suspenseful, authentic. Violence I like to, but only if it is tasteful and real. Not just a bunch of gore for the sake of gore.

I mention authenticity because it's something that lacks in so much in so many movies it makes me want to gag.

Like, I don't know, take the new Karate kid for example. I know that the word karate came from the Chinese, but the entire Japanese language came from the Chinese and the Japanese have even changed the kanji used in the word to take away from the Chinese association, because it is a Japanese martial art. Karate Kid was called Karate Kid because the kid was learning Karate from an old Japanese man from Okinawa, not Kung Fu from a Chinese Kung Fu master in China. That doesn't mean it will be bad movie, but what idiot had the idea to make it "The Karate Kid"?

Or Ninja Assassin. I haven't seen it, but I really don't think I want to because when I read the 1 star review of it in the paper I only saw one Japanese name and that was at the bottom of the roster.

Also, I absolutely HATE movies that don't follow culture. If I'm watching a movie that is set in another country and for some reason all the characters speak English for no good reason, then the movie loses credibility with me even if it's good. I know how to read subtitles and it's not my fault if some people can't. *shrug*

I suppose I could go on and on about little things that irk me, but I'm tired and grumpy so I'll just shut my mouth now and go take a nap or something. :)

EDIT: A final thought on authenticity so my examples are not only limited to "Asian" films.

Marie Antoinette. No. No, no and no. I sat through the piece of crap and wasn't even given the reward of seeing her get beheaded. WORTHLESS! Not worth the film it was recorded on. I'd rather sit and read boring historical texts than look at that piece of crap ever again. And I didn't think it was POSSIBLE to see modern product placement in a historical film, but damn, they sure did anyways.

OH NOES! That reminds me of that HORRIFIC steaming pile called The Unborn. It's a Mac ad, not a movie. Movies have things called plot and at least play at logic, which that abomination didn't even seem to try to do. It tried to promote Mac, anorexia, and bad actresses in panties.

Every type of movie I enjoy, if it's good <it's as simple as that> That said, I always note films based on type - if it's horror, I expect it to be horror type movie, and not full of action which would I expect from action movie; if it's made in Bwood I don't expect sth from Hwood, and so on etc. Yeah, I'm filmomaniac.
But I must say: I like watching films with awesome special effects, especially some action ones <because, eg. nowadays horror movies with those special effects have no taste of climate, they seem like another action slow motion picture rather than a whole horror spectrum - that's why I like very much old horrors - maybe they lacked superb s.effects, but the climate while watching them in the dark, alone, that is fantastic feeling <I'm not saying all old horrors are good, just saying: in the past most of them were better than nowadays..>>

About the 2nd question: I have no idea, basically there's everything right now that fits my taste : O

I was kinda disappointed with the Lovely Bones, definitely not Peter Jackson's best. Way too much focus on special effects and not enough about the actual plot or characters.

Just saw The Twilight - New Moon, sorry to say it guys but I was so disappointed in the movie. I can't find anything good about the movie, especially the acting. Too much facial expressions and few sequences didn't fit it in at all. A big no for me.

Were you blackmailed into seeing it or were you just curious? I hope it's the first reason, and I'm sorry you wasted your money. But hey, I wasted money on Max Payne :p!

That trailer looks amazing, Crimson! :luv Thanks for posting!

Totally agree. I saw this in the theater and it was terrible! Big disappointment since I usually like Sofia Coppola's stuff. I don't remember the product placement, though. Isn't it sad that we're so conditioned to it that we don't even notice it anymore? Yikes. :sweat

Just saw Avatar.

Cool cgi, and with the 3d glasses is even better...but the plot was so generic, not to mention the performance of the main leads.

new Iron Man 2 trailer

http://www.apple.com/trailers/paramount/ironman/

sweet trailer, looks kickass
Whoah!
They replaced the dude who plays rodhes? I'm a bit sad; the previous guy was more than decent enough and replacing him with star power kinda kills the magic.

But on the bright side, the action looks much more convincing than some of what millions of dollar render farms and turtleneck man-hours have been buying hollywood lately. I hope the massive expectations that the first movie gave me won't set me up to feel disappointed.

Yhym, the guy from the first one wanted too much money, so they replaced him with the actor who would charge less money :p

I liked also the idea of the remake of Forbidden Planet by James Cameron - he said in interview on MTV, that he is actively in make of this s-f film. Cool <3

Mmmmmm... Red head Scarlet...

Speaking of red heads I saw Twilight for the first time on Tuesday and although the movie was poor the female bad vampire was damn sexy... (I have a thing for red heads)
