Haha, actually no. I would say I had nothing to do at that moment. It was more like on a whim that I went to see the movie. I cursed myself throughout the movie.

How is 2012? I am hearing mix opinions about people around me. In nutshell they are saying, the graphics and visuals are great but as a whole the movie is not so special.

Don't worry, as far as 3D family movies to look forward too, you still have Toy Story 3, which actually looks pretty good, though I am kind of biased .

I just saw Avatar yesterday and it was great! It's so great that I'm not even going to write much about it because it's something that everyone needs to see for themselves! GO WATCH IT NOW!

Yep I saw avatar thursday last week. I can affirm what the Paperman said: a must see movie. Very cool movie and very awesome world

+160 minutes are passing by like they were none. The movie keeps an awesome pace and it never bores

Avatar FTW!! One of my favorite movies of all time. Easily the best of the year. Didn't see it in 3D but its probably even more amazing that way.

Avatar is amazing in IMAX 3D. A must see in that format. Some people reviewing it on other sites have mentioned 10 to 15 minutes of motion sickness as a side effect. You may want to consider that a warning for you if you think motion sickness easily ails you.

As the effects are apparently short lived, maybe you'd like to endure the first few minutes to embrace a very engrossing film. Otherwise, as with me, go and enjoy the experience, motion sickness free.

Just watched This is Spinal Tap. It's about 25 years old, but it's still hilarious. The original mockumentary, and a must watch for anyone who is a fan of 60's and 70's rock bands. I must warn though, not knowing much about the music scene from that time might make this movie a lot less enjoyable.

i would go for both twilight and new moon...there movies are quite...quiet and damn boring enough to make me pay several hours to just to go sleep in the cinema. too bad that they are not as great as the books.

Drag Me To Hell.....its been a little while since I saw this but I ended up talking about it today. I rented it because I was told it was soooooooooo scary. It was so bad I cried laughing so hard. Its terrible.

On My Worst List

Spider-Man 3

A once cherished experience Spider Man 2 and I had feels sullied. Its follow-up makes me regret liking the Spider Man movie series enough to watch it... to watch the whole freaking series. I regret that I ever began to like the saga. To be flipping built up by an arguably well-crafted sequel then let down by its trailing slop of a continuation makes me not cringe but look forward to Iron Man 2's proof of worth.

The movie prior to its sequel carries not a saga but may surely sink with it. Though the first movie in a saga may be the last worth mentioning, I find that hardly the case here. That's subjectivity for you. Blame emotion. But, Spider Man, the movie series, why have you betrayed me!

...I saw The Dark Knight three times... I would advise the reader of this post to not be me when they choose a third viewing... cliche does not work here; third time is the killjoy. Maybe that is cliche and I should read more.

Minority Report

Gets honorable mention for I predicted the ending to my amazement. How easy the plot could be found out! Not really bad if you're into that kind of thing. I watched it at the cinema though, so I thought I spent about eight bucks to inadvertently solve the puzzle I knew not was there to be entertained. I was there to be entertained. That puzzle solving was a diversion, a bit of a head scratcher, but not quick enough. Not a simple detour.

Puzzle-solving consuming my attention, I left Minority Report not pondering a start, middle, and finish, I hung my self upon the clue that led me to figure out the ending and walked to parking lot, rode to house, went to bed and today I still think of the movie that got away and the ending that lingers. Entertaining to another, not to me. My point: Puzzles at Dollar Tree go for.... a dollar. Why didn't I want to buy a puzzle from Dollar Tree... Oh, I thought watching that Spielberg flick with Tom Cruise and this Sci-Fi angle of Philip K. Dick somewhere in it would be... entertaining... yeah. Perhaps I will change my mind come some day in the future.

Star Trek

There's something about Star Trek (2009) that has to make you laugh... fan service a bit, but overall the movie's enjoyable to me.

It is incredible in IMAX 3-D, I repeat myself from another thread. But get a mid-row seat. The sense of seamless depth perception that arrives after about a fourth or so into the movie may occur in shorter time if you take any of the mid rows versus the back rows of the theater.

You may never want to choose the front rows for any movie. You might hopefully agree. You might explain yourself if you disagree. I hope you do.

To Avatar's plot: pretty simple. Unabashed about that. Basic story, fancy tech. Seems a mash of many things. Well it must be a mash. If its goal was to be completely novel it would arguably not be film. No art or attempt at art appears new. Every movie seems a reference to another reference, a recollection directed anew as far as the same story, character, trope, technique, name, idea, or image can travel a new path.

So, bottom-line, as with most high-glitz, box office hammers, James Cameron has made a highly publicized and criticized film that has already made more than $350 million. Basic objective of Avatar seems close to complete but what makes the movie more than just another fancy, money-making spectacle is its environment, technology, and characterization of a tale that seems familiar. I felt engrossed in each of those aspects of Avatar and that feeling was fairly rewarding. Might you note, I saw Avatar while attempting to lessen my preconceptions of a great or worthwhile movie-going experience. I let myself be open to the best parts of the movie after many encounters with discouraging films.

Watching Avatar therefore felt liberating to me... in a way that a person just beginning steps into a mystic jungle could feel. I found the vegetation of Avatar's main setting (Pandora) fascinating, the emotion of the CGI Na'vi believable, the rituals of the Na'vi characters consuming: I wanted to explore that world. The story was a mere pillar among many columns of a just naked monument. There's much more to discover on Pandora than there is to take from Avatar. I think therein lies ironic discouragement. Displeasure that drives me away from seeing Avatar again drives me to ponder Pandora recurrently...

I have to concur about Avatar. I saw it the night it opebned in 3D. It's not even something I feel like reviewing because I could talk about it all day. That said, you might as well just go and see it a few times. I gotta give props to Sigourney Weaver's character too. I've never seen such a likable terrible bitch.

On that note, I just watched Sherlock Holmes yesterday and also loved it. Robert Downy Jr. is awesome and Jude Law aint too shabby himself. Very intelligent and witty. Not too funny, not too action packed, but instead has a good mix of elements. The breakdown of Holmes' thought processes was my favorite part (especially in his fights). It's pretty cerebral and you really can't call everything that is going to happen. The story unfolded nicely and entertained throughout. There didn't seem to be any excess in my opinion. It's an all around enjoyable movie.

OH YEAH! I also watched Boondock Saints last night on Netflix. Thanks for all the good recs on it. I liked it a lot.

Lol, don't come here and educate me like that. That's my personal opinion. Personally I hated There Will Be Blood. I'm quite aware of how to analyze a film and know if it's a masterpiece or a piece of shit as I've gone three years to a media school where I got thorough teachings in how to analyze movies >_> I hated There Will Be Blood. For me it was one of the worst movies I've ever seen, period. I'm quite aware that it in fact has great depth and is a good movie, but personally it bored the hell out of me and I view it as shit. Actually Oscar winning movies are often rather bizarre and weird, and requires a great deal of thinking about it, and often a requirement for them is to fit your taste. In this case this movie didn't fit mine. Take the Curious Case of Benjamin Button for example, another Oscar winning movie. It's a great film, it has real depth about life and death etc, but it's incredibly slow, and to some it can easily be a really boring movie and make them feel like it sucks.

I have to agree with you, having also attended a media school and learned a lot about story telling and the like. That's why I put so much value in the concept of authenticity in films. I mean, anyone who has had a beginning physics class should absolutely HATE the movie Armageddon, but tons of people loved it emphatically. Me, I say no. No, no and no. It's a horrific movie that was marketed to a specific group of gullible saps who thought it was a golden shower of wonderfulness, and I think it wasn't worth a squirt of piss because it was completely fake. But if one didn't know about WHY it was a fake POS then I do expect a person to like it (see also the new "Karate Kid" in reference to another epic use of "fake-ness" even if the film isn't out yet), which is why I hate it more than a crap movie that doesn't try to be a blockbuster. Blockbuster crap is lower than low-class crap any day.
