Library of Ohara's translation of the mural:

The mural mentions 3 different periods of time:
  1. The First World is a mythological era in which the original god Nika would have existed.
  2. The Second World is the Void Century, which Joy Boy lived.
  3. The Third World is a prophecy about the current time.

Noland already had mentioned the 4 gods mentioned in this mural:
  1. Sun God (Nika)
  2. Earth God / God of the Great Earth
  3. Forest God (a tree)
  4. Sea God / Rain God

The Mermaid Princess appears to be visible in the mural, so it doesn't seem these gods would be names for the Ancient Weapons.

==========

THE FIRST WORLD (MYTHOLOGICAL ERA)

Within the Earth, there be flame.
People succumbed to their greed
as they seized the forbidden sun.

"Flame" appears to be a reference to the Mother Flame, as it uses the same kanji. The kanji for the Power Plant that created the Mother Flame translates as "Fusion Reactor". There's an obvious connection between the Mother Flame and the sun, and the sun is powered by nuclear fusion.

This is saying that there was a nuclear war. When humans discovered nuclear energy, they used it to gain power.

The enslaved wished and prayed.
The Sun God appeared.
The Earth God was furious, and,

The slaves prayed, and the Sun God Nika appeared.

The Earth God would have existed alongside the original Nika during the mythological era.

What was Nika?

What was the Earth God? The large creature over the tree?

There are moons or planets depicted in the mural, are they related to the origin of Nika or the Earth God?

together with the Hellflame Serpent,
enveloped the world in death and darkness.

The Hellflame Serpent is clearly related to the Red Line. Dorry referred to the Red Line as the "Bloody Serpent" in chapter 129. In the illustration, the serpent-like creature seems to merge itself with a wall-like structure. The "flame" once again seems to be a reference to Mother Flame or nuclear energy.

This suggests that the Red Line didn't always exist and was created during the mythological era. The creation of the Red Line was catastrophic to the people of the world.

It also compares the Red Line to a living creature. Is this purely symbolical, or is the true nature of the Red Line very different from what we know?

How the Earth God was involved in the creation of the Red Line?

What's the relation between the Red Line and nuclear energy?

They all could not meet together anymore.

The people of the world were separated by the Red Line. Why was it necessary to separate half of the world?

==========

THE SECOND WORLD (VOID CENTURY)

Within the nothingness, there be breath.

"Nothingness" is likewise a reference to Void (Void Century).

Humanity Re-emerge after a nuclear holocaust?

The Forest God sent forth devils.

The Forest God would have existed during the Void Century, alongside Joy Boy.

The Forest God created the Devil Fruits. The mural appears to depict the Devil Fruits growing from an enormous tree.

The Sun only aggravated the spread of the fires of war.

Humanity rediscovered nuclear energy, and the Mother Flame was used during the Void Century to cause more war.

The people of the half-Moon had a dream.
The people of the Moon had a dream.

The people of the Moon are likely the Lunarians.

Who are the people of the half-moon? Many fans theorize it could be the D. clan.

The Lunarians and the people of the half-Moon share a dream. The only Lunarian we know, King, was hoping for Joy Boy to return, but this would have happened during the time Joy Boy existed.

People killed the Sun and became Gods.

What does it mean by "people killed the Sun"? Joy Boy was killed? The Mother Flame was lost?

The people who became gods are the Celestial Dragons.

The Sea God rampaged.

What is the Sea God? The large creature on the left?

The Sea God appears to be a reference to the effect of the Mother Flame that increased the ocean level in the whole planet. Is the Sea God the person who used the Mother Flame, in other words, Imu?

They all could not meet together anymore.

The people of the world were once again separated. This time the ocean level increased by 200 meters, and they now live in isolated islands.

==========

THE THIRD WORLD (PROPHECY ABOUT THE CURRENT TIME)

Within the chaos, there be void.

The chaotic history of the past would be erased and become the Void Centory.

The meddlesome lingering shadows will recall the Day of Promise.
Hearing the voices of the crescent Moon.

The Scabbards were also called "shadows". In this context, the lingering shadows are the remnants of the Void Century. They are likewise different groups of people, as depicted in the mural.

The Day of Promise was mentioned by the fish-men as the day Noah would fulfill its purpose.

The crescent Moon is the Kozuzi clan. I presume the voices mentioned here are the Poneglyphs that were created by the Kozuki.

The Sun God dances, he laughs.
He leads towards world’s end.

This is the same ambiguity already in the series about Luffy freeing the world or leading the world to its end.

The Sun will return.
A new morning will arrive.

Nuclear energy will now be used for good?

The mural depicts Nika leading different groups to take back a sun (the Mother Flame?) from the large creature.

I believe this time, surely, they will all meet together at last.

All of humanity will be united again.

First of all thanks for making a thread about it, with the mural being so complex it totally was in need of one.
I agree on most of your takes, still not sure though whether the flame within the earth is the motherflame techology or something else. Remember Vegapunk mentioning that he still did not figure out the AK‘s energy source?

I‘m also wondering if the first Nika was a Lunarian or maybe a Lunarian giant hybrid.

The earth god is definitely one of the more intriguing aspects of the mural. The first age seems to describe a war between the earth god and the first nika. I am still not sure of the material that is being mined though. I want to say this may have something to do with amber lead but it's hard to tell...

It uses the same kanji 炎 as Mother Flame, so I think it's related

I don't know what it is, it looks like some type of light. There are also some of these floating in the sky.

My thoughts on the mural is its a large narrative tale of humanity striving for a better world and how that story unfolds.

Part 1
  • Humans discover an energy source.
  • My guess is humanity needed to mine deep into the earth for the energy source to work and probably used lots of slave labor for the mining.
  • Humans use the new energy source to modernize/advance civilization, leading to great achievements but at the same time mass inequality e.g. the underclass & slaves (kind of like Gray Terminal in Goa).
  • The wishes of people for freedom births Nika a real god into the world who fights to free slaves brining disorder to society.
    • This Nika to me is real in the same way as Klabautermann and is not related to Devil Fruits.
  • The energy source has another dark downside - the planet's health. Eventually the mining caused massive volcanic activity (God of Earth is angry) forming the Red Line and simultaneously plunged the world into darkness/death via a volcanic winter that lasted many years (likely decades to centuries).
    • I think in lore people blame Nika for this when he had nothing to do with it.
  • The wealthiest of humanity escape to the moon and built up civilization there.
    • Judging by the state of the moon, these people probably repeated similar mistakes of exploiting the environment and ruined the moon too.
Part 2
  • The world starts to recover ("breath stirred in the abyss") from the mistake in Part 1 (volcanic winter).
  • Those that were left behind suffered but eventually made it through the volcanic winter.
  • With the planet recovering those that went to the moon came back to Earth, stopping at sky islands along the way.
  • With their advanced tech and other people who still lived on Earth the "moon people" formed the Ancient Kingdom.
  • Unfortunately these people didn't learn the lessons of Part 1 this time using technology to:
    • Mess with biology of living beings birthing Devil Fruits into the world (this is when the Nika DF was born). I think the God of Forrest in this case is technology combined with the Tontatta ability to grow anything (basically better version of the Smile creation process to manifest peoples dreams into DFs).
    • Tried creating unlimited energy by inventing Mother Flame, hence bringing the Ancient Weapon into existence (these likely were not weapons but machines to terraform the planet to fix the mistakes of Part 1 e.g. the Red Line).
  • The world became unstable at this point as some of the descendants who survived Part 1 on Earth feared the Ancient Kingdom would cause another global catastrophe. These people are the rulers of the 20 kingdoms.
  • Eventually a great war broke out with 3 main factions, (i) the 20 kingdoms wanting to prevent what happened in Part 1, (ii) the Ancient Kingdom who wanted to push forward with their technology to create what they consider a Utopia, and (iii) Joyboy with the power of Nika who thought there was another way.
  • The great war involved DFs and the Ancient Weapons leading to a new global cataclysm - sea level rise. This is the end of the Ancient Kingdom, Joyboy, and rise of the Celestial Dragons.
    • In the end Lily is convinced of Joyboys alternative way and makes sure to spread the Poneglyph so the future people have another shot at fixing the mistakes of the Ancient Kingdom and 20 Kings.
  • The new rulers the CD erased history to avoid the mistakes of the past and planted a global monarchy in secret believing this new system though imperfect (classist etc) was better than the alternative (trying for a better world and eventually destroying everything)
Part 3
  • Despite efforts to make the world forget about the past mistakes via the Void Century humanity will learn about the past due to the Poneglyphs.
  • Nika will return into the world with someone new inheriting Joyboy's will and pushing for this third alternative (this will be Luffy's dream).
    • The dream is probably something like a world of equality where all races live in peace, no slavery, and poverty is gone with everyone generally living good/happy lives. The 19 Kings likely weren't against the dream itself but just feared the Ancient Kingdom's way of trying to make it happen would lead to a cataclysm like in Part 1 (this may be why Vegapunk says its hard to say who is in the wrong).
  • The finding of One Piece (the true history of the world including Part 1 and Part 2) leads to a new war breaking out
  • Luffy/Nika reforms the old alliances of Joyboy and fights against the WG to try to bring about the "dream"
  • Luffy/Nika win the new war, the Ancient Weapons, which are terraforming devices are used to fix Earth creating more land and getting rid of the Red Line to make the seas free.
  • Then we get a "happy ever after" of sorts and a giant party celebrated around the world.

I think you are into something

That explains why Vegapunk didn't called the Ancient Kingdoms evil, just an opposing ideology

That's definitely what I'm thinking. Whatever the reality ends up being it won't be a simple good guys v bad guys scenario. The 20 kings probably had some good points which would explain why Lily was on their side at the start and only maybe later changed her mind, especially after they used the Ancient Weapon to cause mass destruction.

I think the will not meets and will meet are referring to the gods rather then the people.

the first world the earth and sun god won’t meet again

the second world the sea and sun god won’t meet again.

the 3rd world, the sun and sea good will meet again and possibly with the earth god.

I think the sea kings foreshadowed this meaning. Joyboy didn’t meet up with posiden, so they didn’t meet again. Yet the sea kings foreshadow luffy meeting up with posiden

The pronoun in Japanese is used for a large number of people

Therefore, I assume it refers to the "people" mentioned earlier

That’s fair just the context of the mural doesn’t care bout the people in general it cares about what the actions of the gods. So it makes sense the last part also refers to the gods or atleast how I read it

Don't claim to know the ins and outs of this mural, but the narratives are more of the same: One Piece is an embebbed narrative cycle that's been played out more or less by virtue of metaphorical comparisons:

- Three major timelines: Rocks/Roger/Garp era, followed by pre-timeskip One Piece, followed by post timeskip.

The easiest one to dissect is the second world, because we've seen it from start to finish:
- The Sun aggravating the fires of war is Ace being the catalyst for the War at the Summit, as he was pretty much the Sun reference during the first half of the series. His death led to the Sea God rampaging: Whitebeard with the giant whale motif (moby dick), being the ruler of the seas, and an earthquake fruit -> he's proto poseidon (poseidon was the god of sea and earthquakes), before Shirahoshi came along. The ones who killed it becoming gods is obviously something that needs to be fleshed out when integrated into the meta plot, but Akainu did get a promotion into the highest military rank during the timeskip. Half moon and full moon dreams are pretty much Jaya/Skypiea arcs, centered around dreams and then the first godly metaphor in Enel. I think the Forest God summoning its demons could easily be Shichibukai + Marine alliance that fought the Sea God (Whitebeard). If we're to follow this back and forth between past/present narrative, it could be a hint towards Imu actually being the Forest God, and it would make sense given his flowerish room and Sunlight Tree proximity.

- I'd say the first world verses give us hints towards the God Valley/Rocks narrative, and I do believe we already have quite a few hints that Xebecs was something that could fit the Earth God reference, but those are just my subjective takes, so make whatever transpositions you see fit.

Well, it's hard to commit to a sequence of events, but I would point out that the text references both a Sun and a Sun God, just like we had an Ace and a Luffy, both wielding different powers. Fire is a fuel, just like the mother flame was, but Nika's heartbeat seemed to be a source of fuel for Emeth, so I'm not sure what to think of it yet. I think the lunarians also play a role in this, as potential culprits/victims: it is implied that they were once seen as gods and have the power of self-combustion, so they wield the power of the sun in some regards. The black motif equates them to fallen angels/betrayers, so I'd need to look for further references/hints.

All in all, it's obviously a lot easier to just be a revisionist and point out similarities once the plot is laid out, but actually predicting future narrative based on metaphors often bites me in the ass: you may figure out the overarching plot, make a few good associations, but then mess up the execution (because Oda often plays around with metaphorical roles) and suddenly there's no merit to the thought process. I took a bit of a break from One Piece to let the plot move forward, so I have some catching up to do when it comes to potential metaplot.

The second world just seemed easier to relate to written events, so I mentioned it, but I'll do some reading and try to come up with something a bit more structured on these last few chapters.

So in the third section right next to the flying Lunarian there is this whale, and its fluke points upwards in a pretty unique way and I finally found where I did see it before in One Piece:

This out of the blue (literally) but maybe there was a people in the One Piece verse that used to ride through the sky on flying whales or flying whale-shaped ships.

It's most certainly a concept that has already been introduced into the story (and good timing on that too, for those who have read the spoilers): the flying fish riders! They seem like an inconsequential bunch, but not if you think of the way Oda structures his story: they were an early version/concept that will most likely be escalated further down the road, and since we're closing in on the end of the road, I'd say we're pretty close on figuring out what Oda wanted to show us when he introduced us to them.

Now the whale itself is part of the metaplot and mystery, considering the popular theory/analysis that's been around for years about whales being present when Laugh Tale is mentioned, but I'd bet there's one particular whale/whale inspired devil fruit that's still left undisclosed. I mentioned Whitebeard being a first half equivalent of the Sea God, and his ship was the Moby Dick --> Neptune also had a whale as a means of transportation/pet name Hoe.

You actually reminded me of a theory I had regarding Zou's whale, but that's a bit off-topic.
Still, I'd say whales and forests also seem to go together quite well: the Whale Forest in Zou, the Sea Forest in FI being frequently visited by whales...

The last part of the Mural seems to make everything make sense since we know it's the current time line.

Like Whitebeard said before he died, he said someone will come carrying the weight of history on his back, and he will lead the world into a world war. The last mural pretty much tells us the Sun God (Nika) will bring the dawn.
With that as basis I think the entire mural can be made some sense out of.
Something I've always believed is One Piece is literally the 9 poneglyph on Laughtale which detail the entire history. And this whole story is about history which gives knowledge, power (literally in terms of political power, technological power, etc).

The first world, they're able to discover energy and people got greedy (e.g. Kingdoms like Dressrosa), they consolidated power and with this power enslaved all those around them. The people enslaved wished for Nika (Sun God), he appeared, but he failed. It suggests there is an earth king, so it appears that Imu has been alive through every iteration of the world.

In the second world is pretty much what led to the void century from my interpretation. Nika tried to unite with the Moon people and Earth people to fight against Imu, but he once again got defeated and here we are again. However, the kings of the earth "united" under Imu which is why they're now considered gods. In the first world, they were just leaders ruling kingdoms, in the second they have become gods through Imu. I'm guessing Imu grants power that makes people immortal, thus why they consider themselves gods.

The third world, Nika has returned and as we can see, he is uniting Fishmen, Minks, people of all races and will be uniting with them to take on Imu, and will succeed this time which is pretty much what Whitebeard said before he died, as did Princess Otohime.
Furthermore, we see ships, we know Joyboy initiated Piracy, as he was the first. The 3rd world looks like lots of Pirates, lots of different races, etc. And we see Sun God leading the charger which has been prophesied before.

In my opinion, seems Imu has been around for several millennia, and the D are people with the potential to become Nika/Joyboy/Sun god... thus why the D. are hunted, killed and feared. And Nika might be the only entity capable of defeating Imu by the looks of it.

The only thing I think may not be true is the devils bit. It should be devil fruits the forest god is making... yes. That makes sense. But there's something off about how the Gorosei were introduced as "devils" not devil fruit users. That may have been a stylistic choice on Oda's part that was needlessly confusing, but it still feels significant. Especially with it being the only instance I know of where the fruit name is not given. Though Kaido's wasn't if I recall? Not right away? Still, it feels strange they didn't get their fruits named. As if that held greater weight. The mural seems to indicate something more was going on, and that maybe the devil fruits are something produced later, perhaps.

You are correct, technically the mural only says "devils", not "devil fruits".

However:

- There's an image of a tree with fruits in the center of the mural, so I think it's unlikely it's not referring to the Devil Fruits.

- I think everyone would agree that the Gorosei powers are somehow related to Devil Fruits, even if they did not consume Devil Fruits.

The one thing I always find fascinating are the small details.

The proto-Loki (ancient giant) seems to be stabbing Nika in the back, or his arm and leg, if we're being accurate.

We don't know yet know the reasons, but Joyboy/Nika did not become king, and it seems like his nakama did try to make it happen (Emeth said so at least). The missing limb is a common trend in this closed narrative, and so is betrayal... ancient giants are bad vibes so far.

Just saying...
