I know they aren't heavy metal but I see some people calling them that even though I think it's a wrong way to label them.

All-Purpose Music Hangout Thread

Ok folks, I’ve decided it’s about time we had a proper music discussion thread (for all genre's) if you like.

Note: I'll change the pic once I find a cooler one!

Purpose of the thread: This is the place where you can talk about the latest music news/gossip; you can even recommend/suggest new music to other members in here as well. Discussions on music videos and releases are always welcome here too. Everyone’s welcome to join and participate in this thread!

It would be pointless to create several separate threads that focus on individual music-related topics e.g. Music Video thread, Pop thread, Album Cover Art thread, etc. Depending on how popular and active this thread gets maybe we could transfer some of these topics into separate threads? I guess that’s the long-term plan…

Note: All concert-related discussions should be done in the concert thread.

There’s also a huge section dedicated to J-Pop & K-Pop music in the Otaku Café section; Japanese and Korean Pop Hangout. Please avoid discussing all J-Pop/K-Pop related topics in this thread.

Hmm.. Lps I'm looking forward would be Eminem's and Christina Aguilera's. I do like Eminem's first new single and find it's an awesome teaser, even if I'm not a huge fan of him (aw, that'll give me enemies :M ) this track made me pretty much curious.

As for the second mentioned, I heard this Not myself tonight track like 2-3 times now, but couldn't stick to it yet at all. In the video it seems like she's trying a little bit too hard to provocate or whatever, but times surely have changed. Nudity nor sex subjects are no biggy anymore, with artists like Gaga and co, so it's kinda meh. However, I liked most of her works before, so I won't ignore this album release of her, even if I dislike the first single.

Oh yeah.. how bout Christina vs Britney btw?
or is it more like Christina vs Gaga atm?
your opinions on that?

Yea, that "Not Afraid" track by Em was really good. I can't wait to hear the tracks that Just Blaze produced on the new album. It's going to be interesting what the overall album will sound like since this is really the first time that Eminem (with Dre's permission I guess) as ventured outside of Aftermath and has worked with other producers on his LP. I don't really like Aguilera's new song but I'm sure her album will still be good at least. Vocally, she's still amazing imo.

LOL! I personally think it should've and would've been Beyonce Vs. GaGa (it still potentially could be the case...) But, Beyonce's daddy came to the rescue and didn't waste anytime in negotiating with GaGa & co a track to feature on. Tbh, GaGa would eat Beyonce alive when it comes to musical creativity.

Britney screwed her own career. I would like to think that Aguilera won that fight.

Aguilera Vs. GaGa...mmmmm depends on whether her "comeback" gets any recognition, globally tbh.

Favorite song atm: Slash ft. Myles Kennedy - Back From Cali
Best album recently purchased: "In Full Regalia" by The Ark. Awesome album! :tem

Worst album ever purchased: Skimming through my collection I'd have to say this "Unholy Terror" by W.A.S.P. I've never liked their stuff, even the "better" songs, and this album is one of the worst they've made. Only cost me like $1, though, so I couldn't resist.
Looking forward to the most this year: Well, the records I were hyped up for have already been released and I've already bought them, so now it's just hype hype hype for the festivals this summer! :tem

As for the Britney Gaga Goo-goo Aguilera brawl, I have no clue, don't really care... but I would watch if they got into an actual fight... except Gaga, she can't be in it.

I allways listen to what I'm buying before doing so and if I don't like it I won't buy it.

I like the cover and case from Red Hot Chilli Peppers's Stadium Arcadium.

I was looking foward to slash's album. Now is probably Ozzy ousbourne's album. And I want to see Lady gaga live next month.

Out of all the pop stars today, Lady Gaga is the only one I love. I was very happy to buy her 'Fame Monster' album that included her previous album, 'The Fame'.

I have a Lindsay Lohan album. (I was young okay!! XD)

I don't have a particular favourite, but I do like the cover for Gorillaz's 'Plastic Beach'.

iamamiwhoami is a viral campaign that has been going on for a while. I love all the songs that are released so far, and the videos are especially creepy in an ethereal way. I don't care who this person is (although I'm 99% sure who it might be) as long as an album is released!

I gotta agree with that Lady Gaga's talent might be way bigger when it comes to song writing and music production itself. Even so I would give Bee the win in this, simply because she's got an unique voice and I'm not getting bored of any of her songs no matter how often I listen to them. Not to mention that Gaga dancing skills totally suck and all she can and SHOULD sing is pop (both you can see in Video Phone, dancing moves in comparison to Bee were just awkward, and the wannabe-rnb parts were just embarrassing aswell, big FAIL).

As for the comparison to Christina, I'm also going to wait until the album release to make my judgment. lol. But to be honest I'm expecting a desperate try to get some fame again with some 'shocking' sexed up videos and lyricses plus trashy beats and all those lame crossover styles. I hope I'm wrong though and she surprises us with a nice sounding pop Lp.

Topic Justin Biber: I pretty much tried to ignore him as much as I can, because it seems to me he got no talent at all. Then again I must confess I haven't heard nothing of him apart from one or two of his singles while going through the channels, so it's just me being prejudice. I kinda dislike how he's been called a Rnb artist though because from what I've heard it's 100% pop, popmusic, teenhypepop, girlypop and nothing else :oh

I don't like Justin Bieber but I have nothing against him. Every person has a different taste so I won't judge the teens who like him. I just brought the topic because he's everywhere.

On Gaga and Beyonce:

I like Gaga a lot but I listen to beyonce for way longer so she gets the cake IMO.

On new Gorillaz album: I like it! Not as much as the first one, but I'd probably say I like it as much as Demon Days. Lots of cool guest artists as well! They're coming to Roskilde this summer, but I'm at another festival at that time so I won't see them. :/

Best track: Superfast Jellyfish (ft. Gruff Rhys and De La Soul)

Gorillaz changed their style a lot, from the very first Clint Eastwood single that is. This album is very pop influenced with a lot of electro beats, so fans of their previous Lps (even though Demon Dayz was also not that hiphopish anymore) might not like it that much. Personally I didn't mind their change of genre, however I find Plastic Beach is pretty much a mediocre tune.

Fav track would be Empire Ants (actually just the second part of the song with Little Dragon).

New Aguilera leak today. Not sure if it's gonna be on the LP or if it's just a sample, eitherway here we go. Christina Aguilera - Woo Hoo (ft. Nicki Minaj).

It's one of those look-at-me-imma-slut songs again, but I find it's not that bad actually. It's upbeat and could be a pretty nice partysong.

It's not a bad tune at all, plus having Niki Minaj on there is bound to boost sales and popularity since she's so big right now on collabos. I can see this being heard on the radio quite a lot during the summer.

Song is utter crap. "Catchy"? yes I can see this being played on the radio. Nicki Minaj has been heavily featured on so many tracks this year. Same thing what Lil Wayne did in the build up of his Carter III LP debut.

She kinda bite Foxy Brown's flow (and tone) but I think she's still got talent (lyrically!) but doesn't show it too often these dayz....I hope her own LP lives up to the hype. :amuse

I guess it's true Gorillaz changed quite a bit, but I still like their new album. Especially after a couple of listen-throughs.

I guess the reason I'm not that against their change in sound is that they're still not very mainstream. They've got some songs on each album that make good MTV and radio singles, but the albums are usually not crafted for that purpose, which is what I always liked about them. :tem

Also, the guys in Deltron 3030 weren't the guys who formed Gorillaz. The only two members of Gorillaz are Damon Albern and... the illustrator guy. The guys of Deltron 3030 did guest appear on the first album, though. Also, I agree on the song choice!
