Since I'm visiting here more and more often after KEFI started to scanlate To-LOVE-Ru, I thought of introducing myself.

So... Hi o.o

I'm a translator whore and I translate any genre of manga (and some random stuff) as much as time permits. My main thing is manga translation, of course, but other than that, I do:
- LiveJournal translations (English -> Japanese)
- MangaNews translations (Japanese -> English; news and serialization updates, but on and off)
- Any translation I'm asked to (Japanese -> English)
- Software translations (English -> Japanese, part of my real life work)
- Software documentation translations (English -> Japanese, part of my real life work)

As for manga, I translated Shounen, Shoujo, Yaoi, Shounen Ai, General, etc... Yeah, basically everything but Ecchi manga.

Uhmmm... I'm Taiwanese born in Japan. I completed K-12 education in Japan and came to the States for college education. Fortunately, I got a job upon graduating the college, so I stayed behind. My Chinese knowledge is very limited.

I started to read Edited Manga around 2001. I started to translate around 2003, first with Aku-Tenshi (shoujo group), then helped out We, the Fans., Tama-chan Scans, Ephemeral Dreams, Manga Downloads, Manga Fiends, ... I think that's it.

Most of the people who know me probably know me through One Piece, Death Note, and Bleach raws + translation (text only) if they were hard core fans past year. I stopped doing so after bunch of other raw hunters / translators started to hunt raws / post their translation online and I got busy with my real life.

... ... Is that enough? :P

Thanks :]

ocean... I got this name when my group moved to IRCHighWay. I was going for ice at first, but it was reserved by one of the IRCOps. Then I was thinking... Hrmmm... maybe I'll use ocean; ocean is man's roman!! Japanese way of thinking. I didn't think even a bit that ocean is a female noun.

It's unique so it works. Why then did you just shorten it to ocean? XD

Actually, after my post, I had sudden doubts that you were the translator I was thinking of because I remembered that the translator's name was OceanIZER but was too afraid to go back and edit. But I'm glad you turned out to be the same person after all XD

^^

It started out as ocean, and when I was making the email address for it, since "ocean" is of course taken, I had to think up something else. Then I saw hand sanitizer, and bam! I made "oceanizer" account. I just use oceanizer afterwards for any of the login name for convenience (cause you know, when I login, I don't want to think if it's ocean or oceanizer...). So far I only know SMF that lets users to choose different display name from account name... :S I still prefer to be called "ocean" and that's how I put my name on Edited Manga credits if I ever put myself on it.

That can be done at other forums (VBulletin) with the correct hack, but yeah it's an unique build-in to SMF. Since some of our members change their names constantly ( *cough*Rampage*cough* ) I'm wondering if it doesn't just make for confusion, but so far I don't think it really causes any problems, and it's one less thing for us mods to worry about doing (changing somebody's screenname XD )

Yup, you ares be Japanese...

...

Umm...

Ah, what the hell... I've asked this question of every Japanese person I had the chance to over the last month, so...

With these words...
見極める
見切る
見据える
見抜く
見透かす
見定める
見通す
... which, if any, do you think can't be used in the sentence...
相手の動きを**て、打撃をかわす
... and which of the words do you think feels best in the example sentence.

Too bad many of forum admins are lazy... ... or the ones I go to, at least.

... I did something stupid just now. >.>

見通す cannot be used...
見極める would be the best choice for me.

I'm starting to love that question more and more. I get different answers everytime I ask it.

That's a good question. What does it mean if 6 assumably native speakers of a language all come up with different answers to a question that involves what are, in my experience, relatively common words and a relative simple sentence? I think the only thing it really shows is that language is not completely constant among all speakers. Anyhow, thank you for playing along with this little linguistic perversion of mine.

IMO, usually average native speaker don't know the language in detail as much as the foreigners who learned it to certain level. Say, if I were a foreigner and learned Japanese as my second language, I probably konw the answer if correct answer existed.

Similar to...:
会社へ行きます
会社に行きます

Which is correct? Most Japanese probably wouldn't know the answer. Or at least I didn't. ... I forgot the correct answer now, too. I just remember one of them would follow action while the other should follow place. ... Something like 仕事 vs 会社.

When I was asked to describe some Japanese grammar, I wasn't able to >.> Why this? What that? I don't know, I know the language but not grammar >.>;

Btw, I said 見通す cannot be used because 見通す is usually used for something you cannot see. ... and you can see the attack. ... (But I guess you cannot see the thoughts that leads that action...)
