Re: The Tennis Thread- Wimbledon (23/06-06/07)

If he just wanted to win slams he wouldn't be entering some of these tournaments (played Monte Carlo/Miami for the first time in years). I'm pretty sure he just wants to play. And he's also sneakily getting his ranking back up...he was out of the top 4 this time last year and now he's solid number 3 (stan is defending USO semis).

I don't think this married thing is working for Novak. He's two points from losing to Tommy Robredo...

I'm obviously kidding about the married thing, but the time off has robbed his game of sharpness right now, something he can't afford going into the USO and the rest of the season.

Robredo beats Djokovic...

Re: The Tennis Thread- Wimbledon (23/06-06/07)

I don't think he actually took more time off that usual. He plays a pretty "light" schedule. Generally focused on majors and masters (he's skipped grass court tune ups and AO tune ups the last few years), and generally doesn't play anything at all from Wimbledon to Toronto/montreal. I watched the match super odd, mind wasn't in the right place...maybe thinking about the baby?

Federer gets revenge on Monfils for last fall in Shanghai. Murray to face Federer next.

While that's true, there's a difference between hanging out at home, working out, and practicing and going on a honeymoon, thinking about a baby, and how your life's changing.

Yeah, probably why some players don't start families until they're done..especially on the women's side. I thought something was off as far as last week when he had trouble with Monfils.

He'll have time to play himself into form come USO time i suppose. Having kids seem to motivate most players wonder what it'll do for him.

Re: The Tennis Thread- Wimbledon (23/06-06/07)

Well, losing to Tsonga and Robredo is definitely out of form. He'd lost three matches coming in on the year, and now he's lost two in a row.

Well, on the women's side, having a baby changes your life even more than for a guy for obvious reasons. Clijsters came back and actually won more Majors than before she became pregnant, but then she retired again.

Well, this whole business is not working out for Djokovic so far, so we'll see.

If i wanted to live life on the wild side...I'd bet on Stan Wawrinka...this guys results are impossible to predict. He's so up and down it's not even funny lol. Does well VS top guys but his losses feel so "random". He got absolutely routed by Beneteau.

Yeah, he won the first set 6-1, but then absolutely collapsed against Benneteau of all people.

Federer takes out Murray in straights. After always trailing...their H2H is now even at 11-11 lol. He was down 4-1 but won 4 straight games then played a great return game to take the match.

Del Potro also formally announced he won't be in the USO.

I missed the match in the end, but I see.

Well, Del Po's career has been a strange injury-ridden spiral since his USO win over Federer.

Well now it's been both wrists...one can only hope that's the end of it. Things are so boring when he's not around.

I think he's had knee and thigh injuries as well.

Welp, Federer easily dismisses Raonic. He's 15-0 VS Ferrer so I like his chances.

Yeah, Milos played poorly in the first place, but Fed was on his game. Ferrer, yeah, well, there's always a first time, but I'd heavily expect to see Fed pick up the Cincy Masters title.

Ferrer gave it a spirited attempt, but it wasn't to be.

He damn near bageled Federer in the second set. Fed took one of his classic "bathroom breaks" and got his head on straight. This should have been straight sets but I think winning a tough match is more satisfying. Title #80 lol.

Expected...and really fishy imo. But w/e I suppose. A lot of people saw this coming. Wonder how he could have possibly injured his wrist.

Well, I think he just didn't want to risk going out in the first or second round. I don't know how he could've injured his wrist, given that he hasn't played for a while, but whatever. Like you, I think that there's something amiss here.

Re: The Tennis Thread- Wimbledon (23/06-06/07)

There just always seems to be something wrong after a Wimbledon loss lol. I don't want to be so suspicious of a great champion but it's getting old lol. I won't be surprised if it turns out he was apparently nursing the injury when he lost to Kyrgios. (When he lost to Rusol, injury was stated a while after the loss).

In any case..my favorites for this tournament are Djokovic, Federer, maybe Stan and Tsonga. Also expect a deep run from Dimitrov.

You are right. He often eventually claims injury...

Anyway, Stan has Milos in his section, so I favor Milos to reach the SFs. Tsonga would have to overcome one of Djokovic/Murray to reach the SFs.

I don't like that Djokovic said that tennis isn't his No. 1 priority anymore. He's not even 30, don't stop going all out now...
