That was just Geten startling Dabi and Tokoyami taking that chance to rush away, not Geten shutting down Dabi's powers because of the cold. If anything, the cold environment would help Dabi not overheat, just like Shoto needs to use his ice to not overheat.

Dabi will eventually get a second quirk or some Mr. Freeze equipment, that's for sure.
Shigaraki is a special case because of the experiments. People can't wield multiple Quirks without losing reason.

Really? I seem to have forgotten where that was said. Or is it from one of the movies? I haven't watched them.

Too bad then, I was expecting Dabi to get Geten's ice quirk or something to compensate the way Shoto does with his ice and fire.

IIRC It was said when Tsukauchi explained who was the first Noumu to All Might.

Depends. He was still overheating going against Geten. But, I totally agree if he had an ice quirk or specialized equipment that could regulate his internal body temperature, he'd be more powerful.

Do you know the chapter that was said in? Because I don't remember a specific number, just "multiple' quirks. At the very least we know someone whose quirkless can receive a quirk without problems (AFO/First User flashback). I'm wondering if gaining 1 quirk if you already have a natural-born quirk would make a difference.

EDIT: Found it. Chapter 47. We still don't know if just one extra quirk damages the body.

I’m pretty sure it’s chapter 59. In particular, this page

Also, in chapter 276 Dr. Garaki mentioned this:

We still don't know if just one extra quirk damages the body.
We know for sure that just one quirk will not damage the body if the person had no quirk of their own. Not just Izuku or All Might, but all those people who came to AFO asking for power.

As long as the doctor is around then odds are that more people can be nomufied like shigaraki. I mean, with shigaraki's ability to take and grant quirks and with the doctor's ability to increase hardware capacity it'd be a waste to not upgrade the entire league. Also worth noting, gigantomachia probably got his quirks from becoming nomu like... or I suppose he could be the blueprint for wielding multiple nomus (though his intellect appears limited).

It’s been mentioned that Machia didn’t even need any modifications. Also, it’s not like doctor’s aim was to turn all the people into “the perfect beings”. He’s not this altruistic. Tomura just happened to be a successor of doctor’s friend/idol/you name it, doctor clearly stated that “he lived for Shigaraki’s sake”.
Also, don’t forget that the laboratory has been destroyed. And all the quirks stored there were destroyed. And the machines needed for quirk duplication/transition/so on. And the doctor is caught by the heroes anyway. And, in case Tomura gets defeated (or even if he wins, but they en up separated) - there is a good chance that AFO (as a quirk) is still needed to produce anything momu-like, as doctor has mentioned that after AFO got caught, the process of creating nomu became extremely hard and troublesome. It’s highly probable that this quirk is also needed to create the duplicates of quirks.

Also, it seems like the first phase of the whole operation of turning a normal human into a god-like one (like Tomura now) is painful enough to render them completely mental, just from sheer pain. Let’s say, Tomura somehow managed to endure without losing his sanity, but he’s pretty special anyway.

Ah, right, something like that was said. But wasn't it like him not needing further further modification to handle multiple quirks? I tried to find chapters about him but couldn't find them for now. Gigantomachia has way too many powers to not have multiple quirks (though technically its not impossible). Add to that, his otherwise very coincidental low mental capacity.

The key factor there would be whether the doctor gets rescued. it's not like there is anything there that can actually contain or otherwise significantly hurt shigaraki. The doctor is at best being guarded by present mic, someone who might be able to kinda tickle quirkless shigaraki. But yeah, without the doctor there is no further risk of numos. But on the other hand, with him and shigaraki its a matter of times. Even with cloned quirks being lost, shigaraki is basically the best quirk storage unit out there. He could have ten super regeneration quirks in there...

They don't really need the doctor to upgrade the league. Shigaraki can just give his team an additional stolen quirk each.

If I understand this correctly then it's likely, though not necessarily certain, that without the hardware to handle the additional quirk they would suffer the drawbacks. Not just anyone can handle multiple quirks...

Yeah, but my point is that getting 1 quirk that's not your own shouldn't be a problem.

Killing off one of the most popular characters doesn’t contribute anything to his character development. We’ve already seen a few times that Shoto is willing to risk his life for the sake of his friends, there is no point in killing him to show it any further.

I also don’t think he’s going to lose his quirk. If anything, it’s much more likely that Enji is going to either die or lose his quirk, and then it will be up to Shoto to fight Dabi.
It worked for ace in one piece. If shouto dies, it confirms my suspicions of shouto needing to be a sacrificial catalyst for deku and bakugou since hesalways beside them as support role.

So, because Shoto isn't obsessed with being the best hero he doesn't matter? I don't think that's supposed to be his role in the story.

But, talking about Shoto's role in the story as a whole is interesting. His link to the #2, turned #1 hero is a big part of it. His desire to become the kind of hero he wants to be and not become his father in terms of personality. His struggle to forgive his father eventually, if at all. Being another rival to Deku. Being the one to defeat Dabi as it represents two brothers' ideals coming into conflict. Shoto being the "handsome" one of the group. Nothing here indicates Horikoshi doesn't understand the character and wants him killed off.
Shouto is there to make bakugou and deku stronger and more important as a main foil. Despite being a ace student and the perfect quirk in potential, he is inferior to the other two in being the most highly skilled students of his class. And since I dont want to leave amy spoilers, hori has no intention in capitalizing shouto beyond a big moment with anyone but his father and his two peers.

Hes probably going to give most of his quirk away to deku and bakugou when he dies.

It would be more like killing Sanji, a close, reliable and strong crewmember. Ace was a beloved character, both for the readers and the MC, but he wasn't part of the main cast like Shoto is in BnHA.
Ace dying is more comparable to someone like Mirio dying (which is now highly unlikely after all he already went through).

How would Shouto dying contribute to the story more than having him develop, get even stronger, and have a final showdown with Dabi? He still has much character development left with his mother and Endeavour, who he still has to surpass as a pro hero.

However, it's obvious from the beginning that Bakugou and Deku are the main stars and even described as the two pillars of the class. Also it is stated that Shouto wasn't raised with his siblings growing up to the point the one closest to him in aged didn't know what his favorite food was. That would mean he was not all that close to the siblings furthest from him in age and currently presumed dead. This is supported by the fact that Shouto never talks about him specifically. Also unless Dabi pull a major powerup out his ass he doesn't really stand much of a chance against Shouto, Deku, or Bakugou let alone Endeavor. Even if he has hotter if flames t doesn't mean much when they burn him with no way to counter on top of lacking any technique.

About Shoto's family ties: they're the biggest part of his character development. If Dabi is part of his family there's no way it won't have any effect on Shoto, and even more so en Endeavor. From here on out if Dabi does anything to Endeavor, it will be even more reason for him to become Shoto's fated antagonist.
Dabi is intelligent and has technique. I think how much of a chance he's got against Shoto is up for debate, since depending on how strong his flames truly are he could just rush Shoto. However, I do agree with you in that he's not strong enough at the moment to play the Final Miniboss role, especially now that the Final Boss has shown just how horribly overpowered he is. The thing is that the heroes aren't the only ones who can find ways to get stronger and get rid of weaknesses.
Dabi getting stronger wouldn't be "Pulling a major powerup out of his ass". That'd only be the case if this was the ending of the manga and Shoto had to fight Dabi in the next two hours, but it's very clear their major fight will happen in some other arc in the future. Plenty of time for Dabi to grow, possibly with the help of the new Tomura.

I'm not getting much investment in the characters especially shouto. And the fan pandering is wrong, shouto should not have only fangirls and yaoi fanatics, he supposed to have as much fanboys as mineta and bakugou and deku and more fan marketing and merchandise appeal for that specific gender appeal as well.

I'm being gipped, a fucking bunny girl is more popular than shouto currently, and is more notable to casuals than him. The author is doing everything wrong to keep me invested because hes keeping todorokis story detached and short lived from the main plot. I hate that, because it will be a minor forgettable event in the long run compared to how exciting and memorable the main plot with deku and bakugous and feel that's robbing shouto of his own established credibility to leave a long lasting impact.

Plus the fact mineta will be more popular with momo to men than he will, dont ask why. Its darkness for those who invest in the saga of shouto todoroki, pure darkness and emptiness. Just a a mediocre niche of denial that only ignorant tododeku fans will be able to stomach which will not be canon or even important anyways.

...the hell is wrong with you and your twisted perception.
Shoto is not the main character. Izuku is the protagonist, Katsuki is the deuteragonist. Shoto is the tritagonist. The third of importance. 3. Three. Not one or two. Of course Izuku and Katsuki get more screen time than Shoto. And yet, the whole sports festival arc was pretty much Shoto-centric, so was the provisional license arc, so was the remedial course mini-arc. If anything, Shoto also got quite a share of attention in the internship arc, because it was a Todoroki arc in general.
Todoroki family drama is important for the plot - and it gets its development, step by step. But it’s not all about Shoto. And, I repeat again, Shoto isn’t the main character of this manga. As easy as that. This manga isn’t the saga of Todoroki Shoto. It is the saga of Midoriya Izuku.

I'd argue every single panel Endeavor gets, is Shoto story development (and Dabi's for that matter). Of the three, he is the one with the most intricate storyline and yeah, he has taken a backseat, but it doesn't mean he is forever forgotten as his family is a big deal in heroaca.

Mirko being a fotm character doesn't change this. It's a series with a cast of 100+ characters and growing, can't give screentime to everyone all the time.

Initially I thought you were trolling as it reads a lot like a copy pasta, especially the rambling at the end, lol.

I didn't initially want to respond to this thread for two reasons:

1. My avatar kinda promotes the whole trend of Mirko becoming more of a fan-favorite than Shoto.
& 2. I'm not one to respond to rants like this.

But yeah, Shoto had gotten a lot of development. The Sports Festival, the Hero Killer incident, and many other arcs have shown him in one facet or another. He's actually gotten a lot of screentime, so I think it's unfair to say that he's being shafted when clearly he's had a lot of development.

And when you say currently Mirko is popular... yeah. CURRENTLY. It's not like she's the most popular entirely. Just look at how Katsuki's won each popularity poll since the first one.

Look, the series isn't all about Shoto. It's not all about Mirko either. And I'm still gonna enjoy it regardless of how anyone else feels.
