This made me laugh but what kind of logic is that -

So by the same token, once can say that, if he is one of fausts friend then he isn't a real person either?

It was both a joke and it was serious.

A regular new member would've just signed up for MH for MH. If he is one of Faust's friends, then he didn't sign up to MH for MH, but because of Faust, so it's not the same as a regular new member.

Of course, you could argue that Faust and his friends are probably a figment of our imaginations, but...
