Why is Toru being the traitor unlikely? I think she's the most likely candidate given the clues Horikoshi dropped.
I think they mean it's not likely for the traitor to be from Class 1-A, though I could be interpreting that wrong...

Personally, I always thought Neito could be a possibility given his behaviour, but I can't really think of a way for that to work.

I'm thinking its possible it could be Nezu personally.

I think the biggest factor would be her lack of plot exposure - unless her reveal stirs up some really serious shit in the process, it's hard to imagine a Tooru-traitor reveal being worth the years of build-up.

But it is the only one in the entire main cast (including faculty and students) that makes an iota of sense. And even then not that much. Toru is unlikely but it's beyond absurd that kirishima, ochako or tsuyu would be willing traitors. As in, any of them being willing traitors would be every bit as absurd as midoriya being the traitor.
The operative word here being willing.

Outside of some vague hints, we know absolutely nothing about how and why the traitor is operating the way they do.

For all we know, the traitor could someone who has been coerced into the role by AFO or one of his agents.

I agree that Kirishima is is an unlikely suspect - considering the amount of time that's been dedicated to establishing his backstory and motivation to be a hero.

Likewise I think we can safely dismiss Jirou, Iida, Todoroki and Bakugo on similar grounds.

To be honest, looking at it from a meta perspective - characters like Tsu and Mina strike me as ideal candidates to be the traitor; Prominent enough in the story for a reveal to leave an impact, whilst lacking a substantial enough backstory to place them beyond reasonable suspicion.

While Ochako also fits the bill reasonably well, her status as a shonen love interest and heroic foil to Toga - plus the fragments of backstory and motivation we've received throughout the series - makes the prospect of her being the traitor a whole lot less likely (unless Hori pulling some major Penn & Teller levels of narrative misdirection here, which would admittedly be pretty awesome :spaz)

TBH, I still think that the traitor is Nezu.

Being the head of UA, he should know all the goings on of the place. His also one of the people who knows about All Might's situation, which potentially explains why Shigaraki knew that All Might was growing weaker.

Isn't her lack of exposure a major point? She's a character who's on-screen just enough to avoid general suspicion. I think people can get so caught up in the who they don't realize it just as much about the why. The traitor doesn't need to be a "major" character if Horikoshi is intentionally waiting to dive deep into their perspective once their true allegiance is revealed. Once the traitor is known, Hori can take as much time as he wants showing us why we should care. All it takes is some plot and character development, basically turning the spotlight on that character and finding out just where they're coming from.

Nezu also has an unexplored past in which he was tormented and experimented on. He is also the only known animal with a manifested quirk--and we have no idea as to his age. As principal of a prestigious school he has been placed in the perfect position to scope out kids with desirable quirks and is privy to their assignments. He is the perfect unknowing foil ala Manchurian Candidate.

I actually like the idea that this allows him to give away information on the students, though you could argue the students of UA already show off their quirks in the sports festival.

I think it makes sense due to him being aware of pretty much all school activities, and likely needing to give the go ahead for stuff like the camp with the pussy cats.

Its always funny when people suspect Nezu when he had clear solid pov

In my option the thing with Ochako is that Kohei heavily hints she has another side to her. He hinted that in her profile page, he hints it with her half face shading she has in some scenes. Even with drawing characters as animals. He made both her and Todoroki cats. It feels like random detail ( and maybe its actually is ) but why those two? Except zodiac sign they barely have anything in common. My guess is because Shoto is literally half-half as Bakugou calls him. And that might be what they have in common - Ochako has the half side we havent seen yet.

That example should mean nothing if Nezu, himself, is unaware that he is the mole.

Nothing suggests that the author retconned it. He mentioned it only 50 chapters ago.

lol, I guess his off the table then.
Not at all. Nezu can be completely unaware that he is being used.

Hori hasn't forgotten it. He just hasn't reached the point wherein he will reveal it.

Another small flashback.
I remember this spread from 21 chapter was heavily discussed for having two empty panels. One is obviously for Hagakure but second? Two version.
1. It foreshadows Deku leaving. Pretty believable. But it doesnt explain why 1-A characters having grey or white background.
2. It is the earliest hint of a traitor. It shows that one of the students has another side to him. Thats explain grey and white background and no showing Hagakure at all. White empty slot can go to grey background character and vise versa.

Because for the most part it simply wouldn't make any sense. We have seen most of them rather extensively and event their thoughts at times. The only one that could make some sense as a traitor would be toru since she has the last appearances in general (pun not intended).
There’s quite a few students even in 1A we hardly know anything about. Especially if we are also talking about 1-B.

Interesting.

I guess we'll have to wait and see whether the stuff from the exhibition actually makes its way into the manga.
