This is one of favorite manga series. I haven't read it in a while (left off at Trigun Maximum Vol. 3), but it's a good series nonetheless.

Cover (Vol. 1):

Summary (from Vol. 1 back cover):
Action, comedy, science fiction, and western gunslinger action congregate within these pages. Created by Yasuhiro Nightow, this compound of genre-blending ingredients has turned the Trigun animation into a wildly popular seried, and finally, the long-awaited manga comes to America.

Somehow the past has placed a sixty million double dollar bounty on Vash's head, and the gunslinging pacifist can't seem to get away from money grubbing, itchy-trigger friendly citizenry. Find out why Vash is worth so much money dead! Feel the clumsy worry of the unfortunate citizens of the pulverous planet! Follow the follies fo an unlikely hero in a forbiding world! Join Vash the Stampede - within his troubled past and an uncanny ability to dodge a gazillion bullets - and a cavalcade of unlucky characters on a dusty, desert planet in the distant future.

FAQ:
What's up with this Trigun Maximum stuff? Can someone explain?
Trigun was initially published under the name "Trigun." However, after Vol. 3, it switched to "Trigun Maximum." So, first start by reading the three volumes of the Trigun series. After you finish reading Trigun Vol. 3, continue reading at Trigun Maximum Vol. 1. Yes, Trigun Maximum is a continuation of the Trigun series, is cannon, and picks up right where Trigun Vol. 3 left off. Re: Trigun

Whoa. I actually just downloaded the first episode of Trigun a while ago on a friend's recommendation and I'm planning to watch the entire anime soon.

Any differences from the manga?

I've never really watched the anime. But from what I hear from others, there are some big differences between the two.

Re: Trigun

Trigun was one of the first anime I bought, and I have been picking up the manga as soon as it comes out. I am currently up to the seventh volume of Maximum, so I can tell you that, until the end of the first part (regular Trigun, not Maximum), most of the manga is very similar to the anime. Once Maximum kicks in, they are two entirely different stories.

Re: Trigun

I am collecting the manga, but haven't had a chance to dip into it fully yet. I have seen the anime a dozen times. I absolutely adore it. It's in my top 3. It's very different from the manga, in that its core themes are simplified (and by that, I do not mean simplistic, just streamlined) and that it tidies things up very neatly, very quickly (whereas the manga, from what I have read, is much more complex and detailed and takes some getting your head around).

I could do a recommendation post for this, but it would be for the anime (cos I haven't finished the manga yet). So, I guess I should hold off on that...because this is about the manga only isn't it?

Re: Trigun

As for the question about Trigun and Trigun maximum. I was pretty sure it goes, Trigun 1, Trigun 2, Trigun Maximum 1, etc. I'm pretty sure about this because I own them.

Nope, it goes Trigun Volume 1-3, then Trigun Maximum Vol. 1, 2, 3, ect. I know that for the same reason you claim to (I own all three volumes of Trigun and 1-3 of Maximum). Maybe you just missed Vol 3 of Trigun? But I am positive that it goes from the first three volumes of Trigun to the Trigun Maximum series. That's because after Volume 3 of Trigun, the author was forced switched to a different publisher, thus creating a copyright dispute. Because of that dispute, he was forced to rename the series to Trigun Maximum.

It doesn't make sense any other way...

Re: Trigun

According to Dark Horse's website there are only 2 volumes of the first series of Trigun...maybe they cut a volume out that was released in Japan?

http://www.darkhorse.com/books/title.php

edit:// there is in fact a third volume of regular trigun according to gotlurk, so maybe it just isn't being released in english or something.

I own the English version of Trigun Volume 3, by Dark Horse, so yes, it was released in English.

EDIT: On a second check, it turns out I don't own it... So maybe it was just a Japan only release...[br]Posted at: May 07, 2006, 08:40:56 PM_________________________________________________Well, just checked the version of Volume 3 that I had downloaded on to my computer. It seems that Dark Horse just crammed all three volumes of Trigun into two volumes (whcih would explain why their versions of Volume 1 and 2 are so big, being over 300 pages). That's the reason for the confusion it appears.

But then again, the Edited Manga of volume 3 appears to be about 272 pages, just a bit smaller. So maybe Dark Horse did cut some stuff out to just cram it all into two volumes. Hmm...

That explains it better.

Re: Trigun

Yeah, I'll verify what Ueki Saiga said: I own Trigun Vol 1 and 2 and these volumes are huge. The second one encompasses both vol 2 and 3, from what I can tell. After that, it's Trigun Max. I'm up to vol 8 on that.

Re: Trigun

I'm not going to be of much help sorry, but all I can tell you is that Trigun *is* on-going, but because I don't read it on-line (I buy them) I can't say what volume they're at in Japan.

I've just got volume 9 of Dark Horse's publication.

Just for your info, Madhouse (my favourite studio) have announced that they are going to do a Trigun movie next year. Yay! Oh, joy! And there was also speculation (which I believe is stilll speculation) that there would be an OVA as well. Don't know if you've ever seen the anime (Madhouse), but it's wonderful. I prefer it over the manga to be honest. I think it took Nightow a long time to settle into his story - structurally - it's all over the shop.

Thanks a lot Kadoman. I also buy the manga, but I'm only up to volume 8. :scry and for some reason barnes and noble doesn't carry volume 10 so I'm gonna have to get that somewhere else.

But more importantly I own every episode of Trigun. I think it's amazing. I don't know if I can compare it to the manga since they're so different though. But a movie and maybe an OVA. That would be awesome.

I actually had that Vash/Wolfwood spread as my background for a while, too bad it had to happen though, at least he went out with a bang

I think the manga is supposed to come out monthly in Young King but he seems to be on a break recently.
