My word, those sketches of Irene are pretty nice (don't mind that back view tbh ). I hate to say it, but some of those sketches really did make it look like Irene is meant to be more of maybe a mother/aunt etc. to Erza than the sister thing that I hoped. The scar on the belly had me thinking it was a twin thing.

How many times have we seen "life," "death" and "resurrection" in Fairy Tail? Acceptance of the author's decision is the least we readers can do, or else we will find it hard to continue to read his story. The last thing he needs is to have his readers cursing on him for playing a plot or scene which he thinks necessary or appropriate for the progression of the story.

Interestingly, Mashima said, "....because he [Jacob] was in the wrong place at the wrong time...." It just stirs up my laughter.
