So, next volume will be last volume of FT. I finished last chapter two weeks before writing this sentence, but I didn't change the lifestyle I lived for this 11 years of fighting.
It was longer than my previous work, so I expected a flood of sentimentalism, but I'm so busy this days, I don't have time for sentimentalism. Actually, I still have work with the volume and few others occasions to draw Natsu or Lucy, so I don't feel like I bid farewell to my characters.

This time I was really troubled what to do with Makarov. It is because I didn't plan to bring him back to live. I left such possibility by making scene with Makarov casting "Fairy Law" somewhat short, but inside me he was dead for good.
But when I was drawing last moments of Zeref and Mavis, I thought, that their death must have some meaning for this world, so in the end, I decided for Makarov's come back.
For Zeref and Mavis death was the only relief. Something like this is rather unusual in the real world, but not for these two.
If these two, who were center of war that involved whole continent, were relieved, I wanted the same for Natsu and others. It could be anything, but I choosed something, what I thought will please many of my readers.
I'm worried about this "many of", there surely are people, who say "Rather than Makarov, it should be...". There are many people, that couldn't be saved in this world. Actually, by saying that Zeref and Mavis were relieved, I mean, that they died after hundreds years of suffering without having happiness. Thinking this way and for many readers, I brought back to life person all FT members wished for the most in exchange for lifes of two immortals.

In the past in my mangas there was always a rule "When I decide someone to die, they never come back", but this time it was "In fact they were alive" all the time (laugh), which might not be accepted. Next volume will be last volume of FT. Maybe it's bit too early, but I'm thankful to all my readers, who were reading until now. I hope you will enjoy until the end.

1. I know, that Mashima was apologizing on his Tweeter for spoiler in the afterwords, but I expected some detail, not that he will mistake the volumes.
2. Yes, Hiro, it could be anyone than Makarov, but it'd be even better, if was no one.
3. I still don't see, where did Hiro admit his mistakes.

What makes you think the afterword confirms that Mavis/Zeref reincarnated? Yeah that's what I was think as well so I guess this debunks that joke about Makarov being immortal which I never thought was true to begin with.

Nowhere does he say that they do not reincarnate. So I think until the last volume comes out in November we will not know full.

Ditto, the translation so far if it states that Makarov died and was resurrected.

A reincarnation I do not see why it should be correct.

3. I still don't see, where did Hiro admit his mistakes.

I don't really get why he had to retcon the death still, it was set up perfect. He resorted the rest of his life to help tilt the war. That shit just completely erases when he comes back. I really enjoyed Mavis and Zeref's parting, they were the focus of Alvarez and the commanders of each side. So I agree it's satisfying to see them die after hundreds of years of suffering but Makarov coming back ruined the chapter, ruined the moment, ruined the tension of the story, ruined the last half of Alvarez for me. Just made no sense.

Regarding Volume 62 Afterword:

I agree with @Linali. I don't think 'Hiro Mashima admitting to his mistakes' was the correct way of putting it (even though I can see why people would think that). Personally, I think 'justifying' is a better term in this case.

I guess my main problem with Makarov's resurrection is that Hiro Mashima didn't exactly follow suit with his original plan. Like the Irene situation, he deviated midway and changed his mind without giving a solid explanation. As for the 'fake deaths' that keep reoccurring, I've come to accept that the majority of characters in Fairy Tail won't die, so it doesn't bother me much anymore.

One thing I really like about Zeref and Mavis' death is the idea behind it, that "death was their only relief". I mean this is quite relatable, so I'm actually surprised that Hiro Mashima said it was rather unusual in the real world. Something like this is more meaningful to a story than simply reviving everyone and calling it a happy ending (personal opinion).

Yonkou translation was like Mashima had to rush the story because he didn't stick to his rules, That sound that admitting a mistake. To be honest i didn't care about Makarov's death, His comeback was more impactable and less forced than his death.

More or less, I believe she's supposed to be Cinderella.

Jellal is not really "Jellal" in this. He's a "prince" created to look like Jellal. Basically, a lot of the guild members get "stuck" in fairy tales and an obnoxious duck keeps trying to coerce them into staying.
