I think at the beginning mashima wanted to do a spin off but seeing that ueda's drawing looked like his he decided to do the next one.

Hiro never really wanted a sequel.

Ueda should have done everything by himself but they wanted Hiro to do it and he did by only doing story boards even though he didn't want it.

Tbh if Mashima thought carefully of the final fights even though final arc was being rushed If only the important final fights was well thought I think no one would have complaint he very much brought it upon himself to be fair T-T he had many ways to do them like FH Zeref vs Acno vs E.N.D Natsu
Hopefully 100 Years Quest will get a good conclusion in the final fights this time as he has 2 weeks to think what to do

Hiro could have salvaged at least Acnologia at the last second, like, he went back to his mountain because reasons.
