so a really good friend of mine, pretty much a brother to me, is getting married in december, and I still don't know what to get him and his girl for a wedding gift. Anyone have any good ideas? TheY can pretty much get anything they want (my bud is loaded, big time), so I'm not sure what to get them. Anyone have any good ideas?

I always 'agonise' over this, because I'm worried giving things that they don't like.
But so far, I have given photoframes, matching pillow cases , cups or ornaments- anything that has a couple - 'his & her' identity on it. Not very innovative, but they are 'safe' ideas for now. And of course, if there are any interesting ideas that I can use in the future, I won't mind knowing too! :)

One idea would be to pay for and surprise them with a honeymoon/trip. Or, if you know where they're going, find out what kind of expensive, exclusive beautiful restaurants are there, and book them a reservation and pay for it, if possible. An OLLLLLD bottle of scotch or fine wine that stands the test of time can also be a great and meaningful gift =)

That's what I would try to go for too... definitely the restaurant arrangements if possible.

I really like the restaurant idea, especially if you know where they're going on their honeymoon. But that might be kinda difficult to pay for in advance (because prices aren't fixed, obviously). You'd basically just have to give the money directly to the couple, and then it becomes like 90% of wedding gifts.

You could pay for an excursion or something else that's a fixed price as part of their honeymoon though. For example, if they're going to a beach, pay for a snorkeling trip, or horseback-riding on the beach, or a room upgrade to an ocean-view suite.

If you want to give a physical gift, instead of an old bottle of wine (extremely expensive for a good one), why not get a really good bottle of wine or port that can stand the test of time from 2007? Then they'll be able to drink it on their 25th anniversary or something.

Actually, Kaylee, you give the credit card info to the restaurant and they just use that to pay for whatever tab the couple has. We do it at our restaurant all the time =)

And I meant the scotch to be old, not the wine ^^; There's some really good wines that are only 3 or so years old and run $105 a bottle. Jordan Cabernet Sauvignon is one of them.

Oh, cool, I didn't know you could do that! It's a great idea though, I think I'll keep it in mind for the next wedding I'm invited to! :tem

Heh, yeah, really old wines can easily go for $1000+ per bottle. But my point to getting them a bottle of wine from 2007 was that it's from the year of their wedding, and then it's something special that they can enjoy together later. And if it's well-made (say a Bordeaux from a good châteaux), it will last for over 30 years. But maybe Port would be better (it also lasts for a long time), as I think 2007 wasn't a great year for wine in France. :darn

If you're good with writing songs and playing an instrument, preferrably guitar or piano, you could write a song for them to sing at the wedding/reception. :D

Or if you are the techie type who has lots of time and patience, I'd suggest a PowerPoint/Flash (or similar) "scrapbook" presentation to be shown at the reception. Collect their pics from babyhood until present, recount the story of how they met, interview their closest friends/relatives, etc. Make the audience laugh. Or cry. Depends on what you like. Remember, any gift is fine as long as it came from a sincere heart.
If the guests would like to have their own copies you could give them CDs or something... just another suggestion :XD

Ask your friend if they are registered at any local stores. Many couples do this to make the process of selecting a gift easier for their guests and in effort to not get multiples of any given item (such as blenders).
