What strikes me about both lists, is the sheer dominance of One Piece. It seems to be picking up new fans, and generating enough catalog sales to push it into uncharted terrain. The other interesting story is Shingeki no Kyojin. These charts make it official, that it has caught Bleach, at least in sales.

Re: Weekly Oricon Comic Rankings

yeah but for each and every volume to sell 277,000 that's very unlikely to me... i know in japan the love one piece so much but they couldn't have bought every single volume 277,000 times now :( for all the volumes to sell like that without any one selling more than the others or it would have appeared here is a long shot.... but not impossible though i don't believe in that
Can you tell me why it is unlikely to you that every old Volume of OP sold around 300 when you have following charts?:

One Piece #1, 380,967
One Piece #2, 361,740
One Piece #3, 350,238
One Piece #4, 336,091
One Piece #5, 333,209

It's very easy. Either new readers are picking the series up or younger people who used to read in WSJ and didn't buy the volumes are buying them now.

It's very easy. From November 22, 2010 to May 22, 2011 every OP Volume combined sold 23,366,030. That's pretty much fact or are you suggesting that Oricon is faking it's own numbers?

Re: Weekly Oricon Comic Rankings

i'm saying it's unlikely for every single volume of the 50 remaining ones to sell exactly 290,000 copies... with the exact number for each volume and no volume selling more than the others even the more exciting ones... if any volume soled more it would have appeared in the list since the last top selling soled 328,300 and that's not too far from 290,000... yeah people are picking it up but the idea of it selling 290,000 for each single volume even the boring ones in an amount equivalent to the interesting volumes is very unlikely... but then again one piece is very loved there they always vote for it in toc no matter what the chapters are like that's why i said it's not impossible

i guess we will know for sure next time ... if we found the remaining chapters appearing in the top then that should mean that they didn't make the 14 million copies difference ( cause no way in hell i would believe they soled 290,000 in the first half then selling more in the second half )

but then again if they really did and one piece is the kind of manga in japan that all it's old volumes sell about 290,000 copies in a constant way then there is nothing for the other mangas or mangaka to do :D maybe move to another magazine to pimp them up so they can compete :D

Re: Weekly Oricon Comic Rankings

Ah, i can see what you are saying.
It certainly wasn't an exact and same number for each volume. Let's say that the possible numbers are like this.
OP 01 - 400,167
OP 02 - 300,879
OP 03 - 154,045
OP 04 - 176,478
OP 05 - 290,804
etc
It looks more like reality like this, doesn't it?

Re: Weekly Oricon Comic Rankings

@meeedoooz I think it is possible actually, if you look at the numbers.

So it sold 23,366,030 volumes.

The ten volumes in the top 50 sold 8,951,893 (the last 5 and first 5 volumes are in the top50) This is an average of 895,189. The first two volumes raised the average because it was over a million copies. If you take away those two the average of the other 8 is 390,092.

So that leaves 51 more chapters, which means they have to make up the remaining 14,414,137. That would mean on average each volume would have to sell 282,630.
That number is 107,462 below the average of the other 8 in the top50.

So basically there would have to be a massive drop off in the the sales of the volumes outside of the top 50, which to me is unlikely because volumes #1-5 sold 1,762,245 which is amazing.

23,366,030 copies of ONE PIECE sold? That's impressive! :blink Even if one tankobon was a dollar apiece, Oda-sensei would still make a ton of profit so I can't imagine how money much he's earned. I believe he might overtake Takahashi Rumiko's net worth one of these days if he keeps this up.

Impressive week for Ao no Exorcist. The anime seems to be doing it's job, bringing a lot of new fans to the manga. Volume 1 has been a mainstay in the New York Times manga charts too.

Re: Weekly Oricon Comic Rankings

Wowwwwwwwwwwwww
That first week of Naruto is the lowest since... *checks file* volume 46, the very begining of Pain invasion to Konoha.
*recovers from shock* But it was just during 2 or 3 official days of sale. Same for Bleach and DGM.
Let's hope the second week is also like volume 46 (291,155) or better.

Re: Weekly Oricon Comic Rankings

Well, Enigma's finally had a ranking on the Oricon list at least.
It's a cult sort of shounen manga and there aren't a ton printed, so nice to see it's getting somewhere.

Re: Weekly Oricon Comic Rankings

When (hopefully ;_; ) Enigma gets an Anime, it'll be interesting to see how much it differs in sales. Sort of like how Blue Exorcist is nearing that precious 500k mark.

20. Junjou Mistake (41,757 / 50,234)
Wow.
I only noticed it now. Naruto, Bleach and DGM got me blind before.
The second spin-off from Junjou Romantica made it into the charts on its first volume.
Nice for the yaoi world. :blai
Maybe i will give it a try one of these days...

Glad to see Enigma finally get on that list. I also think it;s one of those series that will probably see a massive boost in sales once it gets an anime adaption.

Re: Weekly Oricon Comic Rankings

So I guess AnE joins Shingeki as winner of the next big shounen sweepstakes. The anime has given it a huge, well deserved bump. It is consistently making the New York Times bestseller list too, answering the question of what will be the next big international series. If the anime ever ends up on Adult Swim it could easily reach Bleach level. Time for me to catch up~~

And looks like the second week is also the lowest in a very long time.
