Re: Weekly Oricon Comic Rankings

January 16th ~ 22nd

31. Dogs/Bulltes & Carnage #7 (22,347)
*Dogs: Bullets and Carnage

31 is about perfect for Dogs, the ultimate almost but not quite manga.

---------- Post added at 01:38 AM ---------- Previous post was at 01:34 AM ----------

 1. Gantz #33 (155,485)
 2. Sukitte Iinayo。#8 (103,765 / 195,434)
 3. etc.
 4. etc.
 5. ad infinitum

a much easier way to write a numbered list. Comes out like:
 1. Gantz #33 (155,485)
 2. Sukitte Iinayo。#8 (103,765 / 195,434)
 3. etc.
 4. etc
 5. ad infinitum
Leave out the '1' and you get bullet points. Use an 'A' instead of '1' and the list will use letters instead of numbers.

add a to make it extra pretty, like:
Oricon Top 30, January 16th ~ 22nd
 1. Gantz #33 (155,485)
 2. Sukitte Iinayo。#8 (103,765 / 195,434)
 3. etc.
 4. etc
 5. ad infinitum

Re: Weekly Oricon Comic Rankings

I just copy and paste the previous ranking that I wrote and just changed name, volume number, and sale number. So, I don't really write everything down from beginning.

Re: Weekly Oricon Comic Rankings

don't understand why these two are so popular...
*1 - Kimi ni Todoke #15 (640,780 - Shueisha - ¥420)
*2 - Giant Killing #22 (221,862 - Kodansha - ¥580)

watch the giant killing anime and thought it was strechted out as hell as not as mind breaking in psychological perspective as one outs / liar game. most of the time it seemslike the player are the ones who are the reason for winning the game, not the witty mind of the manager.

kimi ni todoke is another case of stretching the inevitable out. don't know if it was the first girl manga in a long time or why the story is alleged special. everything in this manga seems pretty standard, even before this manga was published. ugly feeling/looking girl gets prince charming...

Re: Weekly Oricon Comic Rankings

KimiTodo is a wonderful manga. That description is a bit akin to saying that One Piece is standard because it is about a teenager with super powers. Well yes, that is a common action trope but it would ignore everything that makes One Piece, or any good shounen-action title special. Reducing KimiTodo to nothing more than a framing story ignores a truly wonderful depiction of two shy, slightly insecure, kind, and rather normal early teens growing into adults, learning how to make friends, and interact with members of the opposite sex. And it does so with humor and without unnecessary melodrama, in a way that almost anyone with an average high school experience can identify with. None of the hijinks so common to romance mangas, no harems, and no wacky unrealistic situations. It is so popular because of truly wonderful, well written characters that are easy for people to identify with. It is completely understandable that it would not be to everyone's taste, but it is always advisable to look past a framing story when analyzing a piece of writing. Based on the standards you held KimiTodo to then the Godfather is simply another movie about gangsters, The Beatles were a guitar pop band and nothing more, Hamlet was about an emo prince, and the Sistine Chapel is just wall decorations. Not to compare KimiTodo to a masterpiece but that is the same level of analysis used.

Re: Weekly Oricon Comic Rankings

nothing against your description, it's great. i'm not the loyal fan who read every bit, just the first 20chapter and so i saw not much besides a typical storyline. to identify with the characters and the humor were not my part of my interest, but i guess you're right. it's just overhelming how far the sells surpass that of others in the same genre. thanks for clearing me up.

Re: Weekly Oricon Comic Rankings

One Piece name is enough to make Chopperman already an hit. It is a series from a new magazine. A chibi humoristic spin-off and it sold 25,000 copies in just 2 days. That's why One Piece is the king, folks.

Well damn Toriko. Nice way to muscle your way through the sales. You're evening beating Gintama which is twenty volumes longer. Though It's (Gintama's) sales aren't too bad. I think they may have decreased a little...which is understandable considering the series is lurching towards 10 years of serialization. Only One piece adds more readers the longer it goes.

Re: Weekly Oricon Comic Rankings

I think Gintama's sales have declined a little but not enough for it to matter. And yeah, all of the longer Jump series have declined a little this year. Bleach, Reborn, and even Naruto too.

Re: Weekly Oricon Comic Rankings

Awww, the very last volume of Koisuru Boukun (aka The Tyrant falls in love in some places) almost debuted in the top 30.
I always wanted to know how many copies it sold or an estimative.
:)

Re: Weekly Oricon Comic Rankings

Please stop writing it as "Animal Land" the manga's called "Doubutsu no Kuni". It's even written in Romaji on the covers, and the author had expressed his not liking the English version of the title on Twitter.

Speaking of which, it's nice to see it in the top 30. I dunno if it's been out for a week yet, and I dunno if any other volumes got within the top 30. I know a couple got into the top 50.
