Re: Weekly Oricon Comic Rankings

November 26th ~ December 2nd (Credits for Negative Syndicate / revolution_d1)

19. Fairy Tail #35 (39,576 / 352,739)
20. Ansatsu Kyyoushitsu #1 (38,006 / 361,695)
23. Magi #15 (33,834 / 278,285)

Assassination Classroom is a monster!
It doesn't even has the excuse of being drawn by a famous author because it sells more than Neuro...
Neuro never sold more than 100,000 in its first printing, I think. So AssClass surpassed it from the very beginning.

And damn, when you look at the numbers compared to Fairy Tail and Magi, two non-Jump heavy hitters, it just looks weird. I'm still happy with Magi though, the anime is giving it an appropriate boost. Heck I'm even pleased with the fact that its only 15 volumes long when the anime aired. Buying 15 volumes together is still manageable for a new fan.

Re: Weekly Oricon Comic Rankings

Please stop writing "Animal Land" that's a dub title and a rough translation that the author has said he doesn't like. The series is called Doubutsu no Kuni. It's even written in romaji in the title. I'm glad to see it's getting on there.
Same with Nurarihyon no Mago, Aku no Hana, etc.

Man, 3-Gatsu no Lion sells a LOOOOOOT...

Terra Formars, that's sold quite a bit for a new author. It's gaining some popularity with Edited Mangas, too, I heard.

Ansatsu Kyoushitu's made it all the way to 400K already. That's just incredible.

And Saint Young Men has made quite a triumphant return.

The list is taken from ANN because they post it in English instead of Japanese. ANN always uses the English title when a series has been licensed, like with Nurarihyon no Mago and Aku no Hana, and not everyone cares enough to check all 50 series to see if the Japanese title is different.

3-Gatsu no Lion v8 also had a CM that aired over pretty much all the nation I think?

Re: Weekly Oricon Comic Rankings

Geez, HXH has exploded. Even if the anime isn't selling that much, it's effect on the manga is pretty pronnounced. Though does anyone have figures for it when it was running before MH's adaption? I mean now despite not running most of the year it's outselling Bleach handily. AC is also doing pretty amazing, and it's well deserved.

Gintama's sales seemed to have dropped a bit though, as now Toriko has a small margin over it. This might be in conjunction with it's slump through the TOC as well. I don't worry that Gintama will get cancelled or anything, but it does make me a bit sad to see it starting to flounder slightly.

There hasn't been any real effect from the new anime. It was already selling 900,000-1,000,000 per volume even prior to the Madhouse version. Hunter x Hunter has always sold at this level. It just came out really infrequently.

Re: Weekly Oricon Comic Rankings

HXH always do 1 million per volume (in the latest volumes)... but does it out of the list. This time it will get there sooner, clearly anime and movie related. lots of hxh stuff lately. Well not the manga itself though -.-

And hell yeah for aku no hana charting, not the first time but still happy for it.

I read the first volume recently, really hope more gets scanned, it was very interesting.

Re: Weekly Oricon Comic Rankings

Is there a reason why the Oricon charts weren't posted today?

Anything new about this week's rankings?
Although the really interesting thing will be next week with AC's 2nd volume sales...

Re: Weekly Oricon Comic Rankings

Despite the bitching about Togashi not redrawing his scribbles in the recent HXH volume, it STILL sells that much. I dunno, If I were a manga artist I'd wonder what the point of me even trying would be when a dude can turn in his sketch pad, not do his job on regular intervals and still sell millions. (Despite this post I am a huge HXH fan, just sayin'.)

he can only do that because he is popular. its not like a new artist can do that or even lets say the artist of Nisekoi.

I know why he can do that, I'm just saying it should discourage work ethic if he's able to do that. I realize that he's getting special treatment so he won't leave, and that it was him who saved Jump in it's dark ages. As I said I love HXH, so I don't have a problem with this per se, it's just me kinda inferring how it probably makes other mangaka feel. For example, I dislike Naruto vehemently, but I respect Kishimoto for actually taking less breaks than Oda who's manga I DO enjoy, and he actually works hard on his art as far as I can tell. Aoyama, Takahashi (Rumiko), Oda, Kishimoto, and Akimoto (Osamu) are all popular mangaka, but they actually do mangaka things. Yet they sell dramatically less than (Except for Oda and Kishimoto), Togashi who does roughly one third the work they do. I love HXH, and intend to follow it as long as it remains (objectively) good, but I can't help but wonder if other new and veteran mangaka get annoyed with what he's allowed to get away with? Obviously he treats manga more as a hobby that you can put down and pick up whenever you have time and or interest, but should he really be allowed THIS much leeway? And if the answer to that is yes, is it really okay for fans to send the message that he can do this sorta thing and we'll still follow him? I realize how hypocritical I sound, but this is an inquiry of curiosity moreso than a criticism.
