Re: Weekly Oricon Comic Rankings

My understanding is that special schedules for a serie is more a thing of seinen magazines. The young jump also has several while shonen magazine (even from Kodansha) have only one or two at most.

That's true. Now that you mention it I can't think of any other shounen that take extended breaks, like HxH. ShoMag and Sunday will give manga more breaks than Jump, but never anything like what HxH gets. Young Jump has Real, one of the most extreme examples I can think of. Inoue only releases six chapters a year, in a weekly magazine.

Re: Weekly Oricon Comic Rankings

Well for Jump I think there is another famous serie in a similar case : Cobra. For Magazine, I think the Kindaishi cases are released this way, although they can be considered independent series.

Re: Weekly Oricon Comic Rankings

Some of those cases you're mentioning, with Inoue-sensei and Fukumoto-sensei, they have weird schedules because they do several series. So they take breaks to work on another series. Tsuruta Kenji is another one. Togashi likely writes at his own pace so he can do everything the way he wants without rushing and still having time to enjoy his life/family while maintaining his level of quality story-wise. He HAS been a mangaka since like 1989 or so. And constantly in weekly magazines.

Re: Weekly Oricon Comic Rankings

Does anyone no the sells for Kami-sama no Iutoori? Read that it "succeed to levels like shingeki no kyojin" stated by the new editor of part 2. not sure if that was only meant in style of quality or whatever, because i can't remember seeing it in the oricon rankings.

Re: Weekly Oricon Comic Rankings

Seems like this volume of One Piece isn't going to make it beyond the 3million mark before the next volume comes out like the last several have. Did 150,000 fans decide to end their readership after the Fishman Island arc? Or did they not care for the Punk Hazard arc as they were reading it in WSJ? Probably several factors. I never expected for One Piece to keep increasing it's per volume sales every time and even expected periods of decrease, but I didn't expect sales to drop by 100,000 between volumes. I thought it would be a slower decline.

Dragon Ball color edition not sell enough to enter the list, or not count for some reason?

It is definitely surprising to me. When 67 left the chart it had sold almost 200,000 less than 66, as well. I'm guessing it's not so much that OP is losing fans but that the buzz from the huge boom it had is wearing off and many of the people who just picked up volumes on a whim to see what the big deal was are dropping it.

Re: Weekly Oricon Comic Rankings

Not a bad debut from Nanatsu no Taizai. I almost expected something like Assassination Classroom numbers with how much they hyped it up But I bet it will get up to 100,000 on this first volume before it's done.

02. Bleach #58 (429,693 / 432,196)
03. Ansatsu Kyoushitsu #3 (327,856 / 377,478)
04. Katekyou Hitman Reborn! #42 (257,637 / 258,527)
Incredible that ansatsu surpasses katekyou after just the volumes and nearly reaches the height of bleach.
------------------------------
06. Nurarihyon no Mago #25 (187,276 / 188,041)
07. Haikyuu!! #5 (165,663 / 166,271)
the fujooshi audiance is indeed high with this one. didn't thought it was the second best selling newcomer of them.
------------------------------
08. Beelzebub #20 (146,837 / 147,476)
09. Nisekoi #6 (131,859 / 132,191)
Beelzebub sold less than nura is a surprise for me. that all fo the newcomer rank in the top spots of the oricon is a big achievement. there is a new chief editor at jump since a few years, or not? perhaps its because of him.

Re: Weekly Oricon Comic Rankings

Sorry, but Bleach and Reborn are the big fujoshi series. HQ has it's fan girls, but Bleach and Reborn are pillars of the doujin community. Naruto too, but there is not a new volume this month.

Re: Weekly Oricon Comic Rankings

Actually, Haikyuu!!'s fandom is getting there. It already has a large niche fandom in Comiket. But yeah, Nurarihyon no Mago doesn't have a fujoshi fanbase, it has an otome based one. There's a difference. Until then, Bleach, Naruto, and Reborn are quite established among the fujoshi, along with Kuroko of course.

Beelzebub sold about 20,000 copies more than normal, so I'm happy about that. I don't know how well the next volume will sell.

Its great to see so many new hits. Assassination Classroom's numbers continue to impress me. Its nice to see Magi reaching beyond 400,000 copies for just one volume release. The anime has given it a good boost.

Re: Weekly Oricon Comic Rankings

Would it be correct to say that "otome" is closer in meaning to "otaku"? Very dedicated female fans, but without any real BL/yaoi connotations?

Re: Weekly Oricon Comic Rankings

one piece is selling a lot more than usual , this volume may pass the 3M easily

Kuroko, kimi, Ac are all doing well. a bit disappointed about bleach but oh well let's see how it will do
