Re: Weekly Oricon Comic Rankings

Volume 6 was the best selling volume of 2013, released in January, selling 941,090 copies as of November 17, 2013. Volume 11 has sold 904,863 since March. You're arguing a sales boost based on a volume available for three months that has not yet reached the sales totals of last years best seller. Meaning Gin no Saji received a hypothetical sales boost, based on projected sales, but not actually surpassing the sales of the previous bestseller during it's chart life. How does a sales increase that hasn't happened yet, and might not even be significant, prove your argument that a live movie could boost Shingeki by about a million copies per volume.

Re: Weekly Oricon Comic Rankings

Did I ever say it would boost it by 1 million? It will help rising the sales that was my point. Together with the general rise of the Titan volume that is still occurring we never know, this is what I said.

Re: Weekly Oricon Comic Rankings

For example 72 is still to reach 3 million and came out long ago already.4 2,354,005 One Piece 72 Shueisha 2013/11
Eiichiro Oda +
29) One Piece #72 (520,984)
Wow, apparently one piece is on the increase again then, seeing as volume 73 has almost equalled what volume 72 did and its still consistently ranking within the daily top 75/100

Re: Weekly Oricon Comic Rankings

One of the biggest reasons for the op rise was the strong world (I think this was the name) movie, not sure why should we downplay the Titan anime movie either, they might be recap (sh*t) but if they are in many theaters it will help Titan go mainstream.

Im not sure how TItan could get anymore mainstream, its everywhere in Japan which was a point I raised earlier already
Also don't assume AOT recap films will get the same response as the one piece strong world film. No anime related movies has raise the popularity of a manga as much as strong world did for one piece. Assuming the effect will be anywhere near the same is baseless

Just as saying it won't do anything is baseless, I never assumed it would be as big.. But live action + movies + Titan campaign still going strong, make me believe is a possibility I can't rule out.

Alright, Thats your opinion I don't think anything I could say would make you feel otherwise. Guess we will have to wait and see how big of an impact the live action/anime movies will have before anything can be proven. All im saying is AOT is already the most publicised manga in Japan at this present time. You would be hard pressed to find someone who doesnt know of AOT or who hasn't tried to read it (in Japan). In that regard I don't see how someone could see it as logical that there would still be a potential 1million new readers waiting to get on the AOT train. Sure there might be some new readers who would pick it up after the movies, but expecting it to grow by another 50% is IMHO absurd.

Re: Weekly Oricon Comic Rankings

I think we can all agree that AOT peaked this year and sales will only decline from here. Usually the movies are not a big boost (Strong Wolrd and Z being the exception because Oda wrote them, also they both make a lot of money, Z was like the fourth top grossing movie of 2013 in Japan). People keep talking about the anime boost of AOT like a new one is a given with the inevitable new season. In my opinion the anime just captured tha attentions of the fujoshis. The new season will keep the sales strong, but increase them in surpassing One Piece is impossible. It's a monthly manga, as soon the fujoshi will focus on something else and Kodansha stops milking the caw the interest will fade away and One Piece will still be the king.
Also I wonder if I am the only one to think that lately the series is bad written and boring.

Dear lord I truly hate light novels. Most of this have an anime and they are just so bad it hurts. The only exception is probably the Monogatari series, I'm glad it's still selling strong.

Re: Weekly Oricon Comic Rankings

Silver Spoon had a sales boost? Not based on this chart. Sales now are within the same range as it's year ending sales in 2013. The charts contained in the link ended on November 17, a day before the newly posted charts started.

No, I am not agreeing with you. I strongly disagreeing with the basic premise of your argument. Catalog sales of that level are unsustainable. Falling from those totals was inevitable, whether Shingeki, One Piece, Haikyuu, or any other series. It holds no statistical meaning. One Piece declining from 36 million total sales does not equate to a decline in popularity. It just means catalog sales decline. The same adjustment is inevitable for Shingeki. Sales for the second half of the year will not be as high as they were during the first half. It has nothing to do with popularity. Shingeki's catalog sales since the anime started are unsustainable.

There was temporary demand for old volumes, based on fans of the anime catching up with old volumes. Catalog sales have already declined, and will not be a factor in future charts. This is not an indication Shingeki has surpassed One Piece, or that One Piece is in decline.

What is the outcome? Six months of un-parsed total volume sales are not an indication of overall popularity.
i read what you wrote a couple of weeks ago and i agree :) . your argument is solid and i agree. i just don't think that neither him nor anybody else compared the two. OP is declining on its own ( slightly ) same as Naruto. while AoT is rising. will it ever reach OP level ? who knows. but having an overall sales that surpasses it is awesome

a member mentioned that we shouldn't praise AoT because OP has one less volume which isn't true :) why it isn't true and how did it come to be that way you and TXC have elaborated quite well :D

Well for me the domination of one publisher in sales is not good, sure for the individual series sales are no measure of their quality, but in order for other series that run in other magazines other than the top ones need more chance and more way for them to get to be known, maybe that is why most mangaka want to run in Jump? And why Jump has such rules of axing series? But meh, looking at this the manga industry is monopolized as well, like every big industry tends to slide towards.

Maybe they're butthurt over OP lost its position.
Well OP never held that position indefinitely, many will come after him, many came before him, it's just a general view to see what people currently like the most, and what sort of series was a "pop-hit" during it's time, pop as in popularity, so yeah these sales kind of say a lot about the culture of reading manga at the time and how was it spread rather than how a series was good or bad, the current culture is directing itself towards SnK, no surprise really, it was building up even since the manga was released. It was interesting to follow it's trend and that it finally reached this level.

Maybe it is best to ask here, but is there a website or source that has the release date for upcoming manga? I want to make my next order when Barcelona no Taiyou and Boku Girl are released....

Amazon Japan should show the release dates. Boku Girl 1 is already out, by the way.

Wow. Proud! Can the anime boost this even more? Looks like "the new Kimi ni Todoke" to Betsuma.
