Re: Weekly Oricon Comic Rankings

24,003　*,281,268　**3　*　Toriko Vol.30.
I consider that a drop

This is the first Toriko volume in years to not touch 300k by its 3rd week. It's almost 20k less of 300k.

In comparison,
Volume 29 sold 26,370 in its 3rd week for a total of 313,560. The sales in the 3rd week for the current volume is lower than the sales of Vol 29's third week.
The sales of the 3rd week should have been higher if it was to show any sign of catching up to the older volume's sales.

Seriously Japan. The series was at its best for the past year and NOW you stop supporting it? Toriko's ranks are also almost always mid-tier now.

Re: Weekly Oricon Comic Rankings

Keep in mind it also had a fan book coming out at the same time that sold a good number. Over 70K. Also the anime ended.

maybe there are now better series that are worthier for support? most series decline over the years.

Re: Weekly Oricon Comic Rankings

Without the anime it seems the more casual Toriko fans must have stopped purchasing it. Too bad it never reached Bleach Naruto One Piece tier. At this rate it will be cannibalized by World Trigger.

Re: Weekly Oricon Comic Rankings

Nanatsu no Taizai is really shaping up to be something big. I wouldn't be surprised if once its anime is done airing its sitting at around 600-800k per volume average. Specially if it gets a decent adaptation with a good studio and timeslot/network. That haikyuu slot, if it is a fall anime. Everything about it is really well done, easily my favourite new/semi-new non-Jump weekly shounen fantasy manga of the past 2 years. Only new shounen I have been enjoying more would be MahouTsukai no Yome, which aint weekly so..ye..

Regarding Toriko's sales, ye things aren't looking so hot for it, sadly. I've been enjoying the series since early on, and even more so as of the start of the gourmet world arc. Sad that it never caught on real much (bleach/magi/FT levels), would like to think that if the anime were to restart it could regain some ground but I doubt the anime will continue. At least not any time soon, especially if the sales are really in decline. The original anime really didn't help out its cause much.

Regarding WT I'm all on that "Toei is doing the anime adaptation' buzzer, seen some rumours regarding them getting it. Enough to make me see it as a likely probability, the most likely as of yet. All rumours nothing concrete. If they really are doing it I hope they do a decent job. At the least getting the manga to sell at the 250-300k mark would be good.

Re: Weekly Oricon Comic Rankings

Well. It's sales before the anime were about 200-250k at best and once the anime began it did increase to 480k. It's a decent increase but I think many expected it to explode like Bleach and Naruto.

And honestly speaking, I do not see how WT will break 400k. I find it odd that we haven't even gotten the studio name even though we are hardly 3 months away from the first episode.

maybe there are now better series that are worthier for support? most series decline over the years.

It bugs me because I never really enjoyed Toriko for like 4 years. And now I finally started to enjoy it to an extent and it starts declining.
Hmmm. Maybe I'm the jinx?

[vinceled]

Re: Weekly Oricon Comic Rankings

I think Toriko is only declining because the anime has ended, not to forget the manga finished it's Part 1 not long ago and I think some people took the opportunity to actually stop reading the series too.

Re: Weekly Oricon Comic Rankings

Looks like next on the spot is if Tokyo Ghoul will have a resurgence in two weeks (early volumes) as its anime debuts, though it seems to be only 12 episodes so I wonder how far into the story it will go.

I hadnt realized Biorg Trinity and UQ Holder were 100K+ series.

Same, I dunno why it isnt counted as a magazine (like Jump for example), I have no clue why it ranks in these charts but that's the only monthly Fairy tail i can think of and the week corresponds with the release date for the monthly magazine so it has to be it.
Still 20k seems like a hell of a lot. wasn't the magazine like really pricey?

It was pricey because it had a DVD with 3 episodes! So basically with this magazine they are able to surpass the 10k DVD/BD barrier that other way they wouldn't be able to do. The only other long running series that was able to surpass 10k with 3 episodes per DVD was One Piece, now Fairy Tail is also on it. Well good Marketing is GOOD!

Noting that it sold almost the same as Haikyuu!! anime 1st volume. Yep, That much.

Re: Weekly Oricon Comic Rankings

Monthly Fairy Tail? how it count I don't know.
It made me wanna know how standard it's count of magazine/takubon.

Anyway, good debut for Domestic na Kanojo, better than late volume(s) of GE is tell something.
And Kindaichi R increasing from first volume. maybe anime, live-action, Yamada Ryosuke and his Hey!Say!Jump! fandom helped it

Actually it had four episodes. The general list of the contents looks like this:

・DVD will have 4 episodes (ep.176 ~ ep.179) and special features.

・Mashima’s <FAIRYTAIL ZERO>
・Spin-off manga <TALE of FAIRY TAIL ICE TRAIL>
・Special cover picture <ANIMAREAL Natsu>
・Natsu & Happy’s Personal Data
・Special Interview: Kakihara Tetsuya(Natsu’s VA)＆ Kugiyama Rie(Happy’s VA)
・Natsu and Happy’s Best Partner EPISODE!
・Rush! Happy has visited?（Dragon King Fes 2014 & Anime Japan2014）
・Thorough Analysis: Natsu & Happy
・New Magic Guide: Fire Dragon-slaying magic & Wing’s magic
・Guild Mini Guide: Blue Pegasus
・Puzzle de FAIRY TAIL
・Celestial spirit Fortune-telling
・FAIRY TAIL Zunzun Expedition

Also the price was pretty important. It's expensive for a magazine, but relatively cheap for a DVD. Mashima's comments about it on twitter, as translated by Imshiroi on tumblr:

One month left from Monthly FT Magazine release. Some people asked me ‘Aren’t you releasing the DVDs?’, and it’s that official DVD. It’s wonder that it’s cheaper than just single DVD release.

Accounting for the price of FT Magazine(plus DVD), we really worked hard and negotiated many times to make reasonable price. It’s close to the ‘limit price’. So many staffs’ effort could make the consequence of “DVD+Fanbook Magazine has lower price than normal DVD release”. I bet you’ll be satisfied with it.

Imshiroi also gives a bit of context on the price:

"To add more, single anime DVD release is normally 4000-5000 yen. This ‘FT Magazine+anime DVD’ is 2980 yen. It’s quite unbelievable price and many fans are surprised. "

So it's not quite as good as it looks, but given that previously Fairy Tail DVDs were selling sub 1000k when they showed up in the DVD rankings, this is still likely an improvement of a significant margin.
