Re: Weekly Shonen Jump [2014] - Discussion and TOC Talk - Part 6

Haikyuu!! has certainly surpassed the 4.5 Million copies sold this year and I estimate that it already sold 5.4 Million copies this year! :) With those numbers it will most definitely be in the TOP 5 of the rankings!

August 4 to 10 sales: :)
*3. 441,563 443,458 Haikyuu!! Vol.12
40. *27,316 625,409 Haikyuu!! Vol.11
Very impressive. It seems to have caught up to KnB already.

Re: Weekly Shonen Jump [2014] - Discussion and TOC Talk - Part 6

Haikyuu!! will definitely sell more than Tokyo Ghoul this year! Tokyo Ghoul boost is even inferior than Haikyuu!! boost and Tokyo Ghoul Boost will have less time than Haikyuu!! given that the first started in the Summer and the last in the Spring Season!
Same thing with Terraformars and Seven Deadly Sins, even if they get an Attack on Titan boost(probably only Terraformars, Seven Deadly Sins will most probably be the next Fairy Tail selling around 500k per volume) it will start at the Winter Season, so Basically one month before the rankings.

The Top 10 will most probably be:
1º One Piece or Attack on Titan
2º One Piece or Attack on Titan
3º Kuroko no Basket or Haikyuu!!(Is still possible for Haikyuu!! to reach the 8 Million mark until the half of November)
4º Kuroko no Basket or Haikyuu!!
5º Magi or Naruto
6º Magi or Naruto
7º Silver Spoon or Assassination Classroom
8º Silver Spoon or Assassination Classroom
9º Terraformars or Fairy Tail or Tokyo Ghoul
10º Terraformars or Fairty Tail or Tokyo Ghoul

Note:
- Terraformars(10th: 3.6 Million) and Assassination Classroom(7th: 4.6 Million) last year were already in the Top 10! Yep, before having any anime.
- Last year Haikyuu!! was in 22nd position with 2.1 Million copies sold, Tokyo Ghoul was behind it in 27th position with 1.7 Million copies sold. Seven deadly Sins wasn't even in the Top 30.
- Last year Silver Spoon ranked at 6th with 4.9 Million copies sold(true that right now the manga will release less often, but I believe it will not have a huge impact this year.
- Last year Naruto, even though the quality, ranked at 5th with 5.6 Million copies sold.

- Tokyo Ghoul in this half year ranking was only at 26th position with 1.2 Million copies sold
- Seven deadly Sins in this half year ranking was only at 23th position with 1.3 Million copies sold
- Haikyu!! in this half year ranking was at 11th position with 2.6 Million copies sold(yep better than all last year)
- Terraformars in this half year ranking was at 13th position with 1.8 Million copies sold
- Assassination Classroom in this half year ranking was at 9th position with 2.8 Million copies sold(yep, already that huge number)
- Silver Spoon in this half year ranking was at 8th position with 2.9 Million copies sold.
- Naruto in this half year ranking was at 4th position with 3.2 Million copies sold.

- You certainly overestimated the value of Tokyo Ghoul and Seven deadly Sins and underestimated the value of Terraformars, Assassination Classroom, Silver Spoon and Naruto. Ah, and Fairy Tail as well!
- Also even though the boost is not visible yet, Ao Haru Ride is in the way to become the next Kimi ni Todoke, and get itself into the Top 10. Possible already this year.
I dont really think I overestimated the value of Tokyo Ghoul, if you noticed its been selling more recently than Haikyuu!! and as long as the volumes continue to be charted as they have or remaining close to the 20K mark for the rest of the year, then it can easily add a few more million to its total to bring it up to near 5mln. If we use 5mln as a cutoff for being at top 6, then it is valid to believe that TG would actually be close to the upper half of the list end of year, and using 4mln as the lower end of the top 6, like what happened in 2012, then well more of the series I mentioned could actually be there.

I didnt underestimte Terraformars either...
"top 6 is probably a shuffle (mix) of One Piece, Attack on Titan, Kurobas, Tokyo Ghoul, HQ, Magi?...if some darkhorse like Terraformars "

Tokyo Ghoul has 15 weeks of sales before the end of the year and in the half year it had 1.2Million. 20k per volume(something that isn't really true, but let go with that) with 12 volumes is 240k per week, 240k * 15 = 3.6 Million. 3.6 Million + 1.2 Million + 0.5 Million(extra copies, overestimated, for time between half year and first anime boost) = 5.2 Million.
Haikyuu!! by know has almost definitely 5.4 Million copies sold and has in average 17k copies sold per week(3.1 Million for a estimated total of 8.5 Million. Don't know if you noticed by Haikyuu!! volume 11 sold more than any volume of Tokyo Ghoul and Haikyuu!! volume 12 is new and is selling a lot). It will sell more than Tokyo Ghoul certainly! There is no way Tokyo Ghoul sells more than Haikyuu!! unless something strange happens and Tokyo Ghoul gets a suddenly second boost in sales.

Terraformars is not a Dark Horse. Why the hell are you always saying that? Terraformars was in the Top 10 last year! Dark Horse is Tokyo Ghoul that was in 27th position last year.
Terraformars if his anime is not badly made than it will get a pretty good boost. From that boost 7 weeks will count for that year. Assuming that Terraformars will normally sell the same has last year, than with a 20k per volume boost in sales for those 7 weeks will get, 20k * 10(volumes) * 7 = 1.4 Millions of boost and so will sell around 5 Million copies.

The top 10 will be something like this, if we count the boosts that I just said:
1º- One Piece around 17 Million copies
2º- Attack on Titan around 17 Million copies
3º- Kuroko no Basket around 8 Million copies
4º- Haikyuu!! around 8 Million copies
5º- Naruto around 5.5 Million copies
6º- Magi around 5.5 Million copies
7º- Tokyo Ghoul around 5.2 Million copies
8º- Terraformars around 5 Million copies
9º- Silver Spoon around 4.9 Million copies
10º- Assassination Classroom around 4.6 Million copies

Now in this list Tokyo Ghoul and Terra Formars are only above Silver Spoon and Assassination Classroom because I'm overestimating their boosts. Probably their boost will be less(Tokyo Ghoul almost certainly has a boost less than 20k per volume. Terraformars is still an incognito so saying that it will be 20k is not still reliable).
Either way, Tokyo Ghoul will most definitely not enter the TOP 6 this year.

Re: Weekly Oricon Comic Rankings

Tokyo Ghoul would enter top 6 if Magi doesnt sell that much which it might not. Your list presents the problem that Ive been trying to get at with the ordering, look at how close all those series are in the 4.9mln to 5.5mln range in any slight deviation could cause any of them to sell more than each other, TG has probably another volume or two? this year, as well as Terraformars too, and the usual boost (in terraformars case, with ova volume releases).

Were not really disagreeing with each other, your series are the same as mine, I never said HQ > TG or TG > HQ. shuffle/mix means any order.

Re: Weekly Oricon Comic Rankings

There's already a heavy backlash developing for the Tokyo Ghoul anime. A lot of fans (online & in Japan) are not happy with the changes Pierrot has made, particularly important scenes that the anime skipped. Pre-orders for the BD and DVD (reliable indicators of overall video sales) have slowed considerably over the last two weeks. After the initial anime effect, catalog manga volumes already have fallen out of the top 50. At this point I think that "what you see is what you get", and that sales of volume 12 will indicate what future volumes sell.

Oh, so it wasn't ordered? It seem to much ordered Though :P

If those titles will get a new volume released before the time will be in October or November, so only the first weeks sales will count. Tokyo Ghoul I don't know but Haikyuu!! is possible to have one by end of October.

^This. In a perfect world Pierrot would stop getting work. Sadly this will not be the case. Though I find it interesting that even with an award winning director at the helm, Pierrot still sucks. That's kind of inspirational.

Though I am glad to see the manga get a boost, since it got me to read the rest (that's out.) TK Ghoul is definitely the replacement to Nejimaki that I needed in WYJ.

Re: Weekly Oricon Comic Rankings

IIRC Haikyuu was out 1 month before Kuroko. Kuroko usually gets to ~600K in 3 weeks, HQ's first 3 weeks got it to ~450K
It seems Haikyuu!! arrived at that same situation as well. Volume 12 in 2 weeks got 550k copies sold, in the 3rd week it only needs to get 50k sales and it is done!

Bottom of the chart even higher than last week at 2K more and 3K more compared to the week before, holiday week did wonders for mangas.

It was always just there (close to top 50), anyone following the dailies and weeklies would know it was a matter of time, and even if it didn't rank.. the older volumes were still selling quite well (always +15k).

Re: Weekly Oricon Comic Rankings

In term of individual volume sales in the year of their anime boost Haikyuu!! already surpassed Kuroko no Basket!
Kuroko no Basket best sold volume in 2012, the year of the anime, was number 18 with 601.825 copies sold! Haikyuu!! Volume 10 and 11 already surpassed that with 652.592 copies for 11 and 693.827 for 10, I would also estimate that 9 also sold more than Kuroko's volume 18 and that 12, with already 552.423, will also sell more than tat by week 3.

Let's see if Haikyu can also surpass the 8 Million copies mark by the end of the year.

How is Haikyuu!! older volumes doing in the dailies? Do you have the link for the dailies?

Means nothing to me because I'm only talking about Oricon's top 50.

Well it means something since it is gaining more sales every week (even 15k is great). I am really happy for Haikyuu!. See Pierrot, learn from production IG.

Tokyo ghoul had an anime effect in manga sales but I doubt that the BDs will sell enough to have a second season like what will surely happen with Haikyuu!
