Re: Weekly Shonen Jump [2011] - Discussion and TOC Talk - Part 2

Personally, even though I've barely read any of Mx0, I highly doubt he went to his editor and just out of the blue wanted to end it. It was ranking terribly for awhile before it got canned and while he may have hit a block where he couldn't write good plots anymore, that is probably what got him canceled and got the low rankings. Jump doesn't just let authors end when they feel like it. They sign contracts and keep writing at the very least till those contracts are up. Remember, it's a major business, they value money way more than artistic integrity.
Well, I only got from what Kanou said, so I'm not sure whether his words are true or not.

On the side note, Kanou also said that he favors on doing dark stories and he doesn't really enjoy doing ecchi series.

If he has walked away from two series after allowing his contract to expire it is a wonder he was retained for a third. Jump must be one hell of a wacky business to let an employee with so little stature quit twice, hire him a third time, then let him quit again so quickly. I wish my bosses were that cool.

Maybe, because Kanou is good at drawing cute female character. If the mangaka is good at drawing good female character, then I think the editors rather convince the mangaka to do ecchi series, rather than dark series.

I think Kanous is actually more suitable for monthly magazine than weekly.

Re: Weekly Shonen Jump [2011] - Discussion and TOC Talk - Part 2

Nah, that don't sound right. All kinds of mangas have cute chicks in them. L∞P was dark, featured his best art, and a hawt chick. If he enjoys writing dark mangas so much he could have stuck with that. There really is no reason to believe that an editor somewhere took a good look at one of his submissions and said: "NO, not without teh moe moe girls nyan." Srsly dude, it makes me laugh just thinking about it.

Why would a monthly be better for him :?bunny He has the perfect situation at Jump: he can write as little as he wants, decide when serialization ends himself, take a few years off, come back end his next serialization whenever he wants, take a few years off, come back and end his current serialization after less than six months. Quite a deal for a mangaka who has never even had one of his titles adapted to anime :derp

If Loop is any indication he's a lot more suited for dark series. He could always mix a dark storyline with cute female characters (from what I've seen that's actually a pretty successful combination). I can't really seem him getting serialized in Jump again, I mean it's not impossible but it just seems more likely for him to move to another magazine like SQ.

Re: Weekly Shonen Jump [2011] - Discussion and TOC Talk - Part 2

That is kind of my point about: He made a rather convincing dark one shot a few years ago, supposedly claims to prefer writing dark manga, yet all three of his serializations are fanservicy, bishoujo manga. Kind of weird to proclaim a preference for one type of manga and than only do the exact opposite.

Technically he is currently serialized in Jump and sales of volume 1 were promising. I'm not convinced this one is ending any time soon. This weeks chapters was a bit to open ended to convincingly predict the end. Could end any week in the same way that virtually any series could. Rankings are no worse than Medaka or Sket at the same point in serialization so I see no logical way to predict it ends in February.

I'm not sure if you know this, before Kanou started Pretty Face, he made nine one shots and most of them are dark series (I remember only one of them is romcom). So, Kanou spends his time doing dark series during 90s and early 2000s.

If you already know this, then just ignore what I wrote.

Yes, most of his one shots were dark. And yet he serializes bishoujo manga. It would be lulz worthy if he complains about preferring to write dark manga yet he has serialized nothing but bishoujo manga. It would be rather strange that the editorial staff approved of dark one shots, knew his preference, were familiar with his back catalog, but forbid him to serialize anything other than bishoujo manga. So like I said: Kanou seems to be full of shit :derp

Does anyone know past winners? That would be very interesting, particularly if any went on to future success.

The 14th winner was Furudate Haruichi with the series "Prince Kid." He later had his series "Yotsuya Senpai" serialized in Shounen Jump in 2010 but was quickly cancelled. You can read it >HERE< (In Japanese)

The 25th winner was Ikezawa Haruto with the series "ATELIEA-". He is currently serializing Kurogane. You can read it >HERE< (In Japanese)

The 29th winner was Ise Katsura with the series "Senka ni Saku". He was the artist of Onani Master Kurosawa and also had the oneshot "Welcome to the Competitive Dance Club" in Jump at the end of last year. You can read it >HERE< (In Japanese)

There has yet to be an actual successful author come out of Jump Treasure.

Re: Weekly Shonen Jump [2011] - Discussion and TOC Talk - Part 2

He said it in volume 3 of Snow in the Dark (collection of one shots). Kanou said he hits the limit on his capacity; he calls himself as a slow writer.
All that means to me is that you have no business writing plots and need to just stick to doing the drawings. Find someone else to write for you. Seriously, how are you going to serialize 3 different series and end all 3 series on your own because your limits as a writer constantly pop up during them? That is downright comical to me. Even more comical is that Jump keeps letting him do it. This has got to be some Togashi-level stuff only Kanou hasn't accomplished anywhere near what Togashi has done to remotely justify it.

It is a shame too because I actually like the stuff he comes up with. Mx0 and Kagami more so than Pretty Face but none of his series have had a remotely satisfying conclusion.

Sorry, it wasn't the author of Onani Master Kurosawa but the artist. But yes, he did Welcome to the Competitive Dance Club.

He also did a oneshot in the 2011 Winter Jump Next! called "Tensei Henshin DX Dragon Shaft" (DX=Delux).

There was also a profile page about the author in Jump Next!

Name: Yokuta Takuma
Birthday: 1986 April 17
Hobbies/Special Talents: Jump, Talking about Kamen Rider (Heisei ver)
Manga History: Same as my age
Favourite Manga: Everything in Jump

------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

I know using Amazon to predict sales is usually always incorrect, but I find it interesting that Kagami no Kuni no Harisugawa volume 2 has currently tripled the amount of early pre-orders it has had in the first couple of days of it becoming available on Amazon compared to the first couple of days of volume 1.

Magico vol.4, Enigma vol.7 and Kurogane vol.2 are almost exactly the same as their previous volumes.

That Magico cover looks awesome.

I lost alot of interest in the series because of chapters 14-23 which made me decide not to buy the series, but it has became alot more interesting lately so I might just purchase them all :D

The 25th winner was Ikezawa Haruto with the series "ATELIEA-". He is currently serializing Kurogane. You can read it >HERE< (In Japanese)
How old was he when he won the award? Apparently he's the youngest mangaka in Jump right now isn't he?
