That the TOC reflects the popularity poll everybody knows, some people just don't accept the fact. Who knows now? :fan
Only 13 of 40 behaves in a way that proves the 7th chapter thing? It's a good number, but I'm not sure... I will take a more careful look at the chart later. :hmm
Loosely reflects popularity. Or else we're saying that the people who actually work for Shueisha are either lying, or don't know what they're talking about.

http://youtu.be/dk2or5aL1Hw?t=5m45s

As it was mentioned before, World Trigger's editor said that it had gotten first in the survey more than once, but it was never reflected in the TOC. The best spot it ever got was 4, or 3 if you're not counting the color page manga.

http://hamada.tsukaeru.info/jump/2014/jump1403.html

No one could be serious if they say that World Trigger got cover and lead color for getting #1 in the surveys, because these were clearly for anniversaries and anime celebration. You could say that World Trigger got color pages for placing first in the survey, but this now brings up an entirely different situation. If manga that placed first, or something high on the survey from X weeks ago got color pages, then what would the first spot under the lead color mean? There's another problem which stems from the theory that some color pages are based on merit. It's very difficult to believe that Illegal Rare got a good survey position initially and just flopped at 29 chapters. Some of us here seem to once again be insinuating that the positions are a perfect science of exactly what were on the surveys, which still does not seem to be the case. It looks more like a loose representation of popularity. If Jump had actually intended for the TOC to be the actual ranking, they wouldn't make exceptions where a certain manga is always arbitrarily placed at the end of the magazine. A lot of magazines end up putting their less popular or old immune manga in the back, it's just that with Jump, who is a lot more merciless, will cut these series short a lot sooner. The only thing that we could be fairly certain of is that a lower position for a recent manga is indicative of an end coming soon, but we can't say for certain that the placements of all the other manga are guaranteed ranks which they received on the survey X weeks ago.

I know this entire story, you don't have to repeat it, but... We see TOC every week, we know very well that it is reflects popularity because "coincidently" popular mangas are in the top and unpoular in the bottom, that's what we want to know. Whether World Trigger got first place or not, it doesn't matter since it is in a good position. A series that got first place in the polls will not be put in the bottom of the magazine and vice-versa. The exact position doesn't matter and it has statistical basis. The editors doesn't ask every reader what they liked or not, they make a sample and with a samples thereis error margin. Consider this difference a error margin.

Jesus Christ, who cares how precisely it reflects popularity? We're never going to know the exact chapter-to-chapter placement of each series and which series are "really" first place.

the point is that if a series shows up in the beginning a lot, it's super popular. if a series is always in the back of the magazine, it's about to get cancelled.

what else do we really need to know? If you're that obsessive for numbers on the popularity of every series, just look up the volume sales.

but seriously, the ToC rankings should not be expected to be perfectly accurate, they should be treated like what they are: JUMP's editors' opinions of which series the readers want to see.

tl;dr: the ToC obviously isn't perfect, but it's more than good enough for what we need.

Pretty much.

I don't and most of us don't give two fucks if the TOC is perfect, but yet there are those of us who are compelled to give us statistics to prove a so many week delay in the survey to show that the positions are the perfect positions of the manga, when we know that just isn't the case.

Exaclty. I think I said it here 3 or 4 times, but I'm sure we will have to have this discussion once more this year. We have to discuss whether the TOCs are valid or not at least twice per year. :XD

Got my Yoakemono and Mitsukubi Condor volumes in. Reading the author comments in the dust jackets fills me with sadness. I have no doubt that the Yoakemono mangaka will be a superstar, I have a little less faith in Ryo Ishiyama, but faith none the less.

Finally got around to reading Kagamigami. I haven't read the other new serials yet, but I am enjoying this one quite a bit, mainly because of the heroine Mako. Normally it's the male character who has her traits, so it's nice to have that change. I think vince said he's working on it, which is awesome. This reminds me that I should finish Psyren and Mieru Hito. Honestly I've always been a pretty big fan of Iwashiro, and this doesn't disappoint. Though jump is a harsh mistress so it's to be seen if it will last more than a year. Still I like what I've seen and wish for the best. It may just be because I'm re-reading Kekkaishi now too, but the atmosphere and the art really appeal to me, and I'm quite taken by Mako.

Great to see Kagamigami scanlated, now all we need is for some group to scan Roggy and we're all set to go with the 2 hits of this batch. I hope chapter 5 of Kagamigami will be good as the last one and for Roggy to start a story of more than 1 chapter.

One Sharkbait is enough in this thread. Don't become one. :p
You can enjoy them, but it doesn't mean that they will become hits.

There is no need for BLack Clover to become a hit, for it was already a hit at chp 1. Its one of those rare genre redefining series in Jump at chp1.

I still haven't said they will sell 727K in 3 days on oricon in Vol. 1 and that it's backed by a steel hard evidence, counting the number of pages viewed worldwide, nor the more unbreakable than diamond suggestion that those how got cancelled in 2010-2011 and returned are the kings of the new manga century, such as HQ!!, Soma, and BnHA ;)

In the meantime I do enjoy them and hope for the best once those stories got more substance to them. Until then, I'm enjoying BnHA which I've just started, a lot, I get why there's so much talk about it.

Shark talks like a character of Toriko. Hyperbole. Hyperbole everywhere. XD

Now, seriously, I hope that these series are well-accepted. Doesn't have to be an immediate success, but enough to develop their stories.

I didn't like Black Clover, but, with time, I might change my mind. Who knows.

I fucking loved chapter 1 of Kagamigami.
The characters, art, atmosphere, comedy, action, and just about everything was just so well executed.
It's nothing entirely original by any means, but it has Iwashiro's distinct feel to it and manages to feel familiar but fresh. Really reminiscent of 90's battle shonen.
I honestly could have done without all the ecchi stuff as it felt kind of focred, but overall I'm really really hoping this succeeds.

Black clover could be a hit,I think you're understimating it.
There are many elements that can make it a good manga
