But living on that isn't the best strategy for long term success. Better it just go now rather than last a year or two and get the same fate as Psyren.
I would prefer it living a year or two, than getting cancelled now. Also WT survived the same way and it even got 50 ep anime. So it depends on chance and current situation. And I believe that Kagamigami is more appealing to anime studios than Psyren, it's having a lighter school tone (Psyren felt more serious) and there is big potential with merchandise and shikigami's stuffed toys. Other than that, any still ongoing series is also more appealing to most studios as if the anime is success, then there is future for it.

And even more, until next cancellation round comes, it may establish a fanbase. Other series may fall, old series may end, so it's still early to predict what will happen and to prefer ending now in fear it may not do better is just sully...

Good anime boost.
I'm happy for Nanatsu success, it's well deserved

but dat Sakamoto sales tho!!
imagine its sales if it was published in a bigger magazine, imagine if the manga had more volumes out, imagine if it had an anime......this manga can be a monstrous hit in the future

Wa-wait, so Kamigakami is 7th last? I assumed it was first possition and Gintama was the second.
Darn it. If Gintama was not that much of a yoyo I wouldn't have been misleaded. :/
It's safe to assume that Sharkbait is being payed by certain authors to promote their work online outside Japan.

How many examples can you name of series that dropped to the bottom only to rise and achieve some sort of success? WT is one, granted, and I believe Bleach may have been as well but are there any others?

Typically, it doesn't take that long to establish a fan base. Series that are popular are usually popular out of the gate, like Boku. They may fall in time, sure but rarely if ever does it go the other way. And if I'm not mistaken, Kagamigami has sliding down further and further every week...

I'm not saying it's impossible but I've never been one to torture myself with false hope.

People, that ToC has only 14 ranked series. So, if Kagamigami is 7th from the bottom, it means it's 8th from the top. It's actually in the middle of the ranking, and I don't think that's bad at all. It looks lower because there are a lot of color pages before it. Kagamigami's initial ranks were, so far, much better than Psyren's and Mieru Hito's. I really hope it doesn't fall in the future.

Sket dance had it pretty rough early on ( bottom 5 ) but it managed to find its footing. However bouncing back from the bottom is a pretty difficult thing to accomplish.

I repeat Kagamigami is not in any trouble yet. Wait until the new series are close to being ranked to get worried.

Kuroko first year has very CP but after it has in many time in the bottom (and the last position)
Medaka was allways in the bottom and the first volume sales was very surprising to the editor
TLR first ranking is also a example (and in the nexts year has very issues who has in the last position)

Those were Kagamigami's ranking so far (not counting color pages and unranked series):

5th-6th-6th-CP-7th-8th

I think it's too soon to be worried about it. Let's at least wait a few more weeks to say whether it will succeed or fail.

As for series which started with little popularity and were able to become successes, there are many: Sket Dance, World Trigger, Kuroko no Basket, Bleach, Medaka Box, Majin Tantei Nougami Neuro...
The opposite can also happen: Double Arts has a strong start in the rankings and even got a Cover very early, and then... it was cancelled in three volumes worth of chapters.

I do agree with rafa though. People are getting to hasty when it comes to cancelling mangas, there are new series which could potentially be used as a cushion so that others may survive and 1 bad ranking is not the end of the world.

Kuroko no Basket
Nurarihyon no Mago
Medaka Box
Sket Dance
Neuro: Supernatural Detective
To Love-Ru
Inumarudashi(It didn't had anime, but it run for 5 years)
...

All of these series at some point were close to the bottom, and some of them even took residence there for quiet some time. They all were successful!

Inumaru had anime and didn't Nurarihyon had good scores, get anime and then fall back and never actually rebounced? Or am I wrong?

Sket Dance and Kuroko are 'best' examples, if I can say. Sket was really so many times close to ending, got Shogakukan Award, bounced in toc and get anime. Run of it was epic fight in harsh Jump environment.

Inumaru only got 2 Vomics, not anime.

Nurarihyon in the first year got middle rankings, but more directed to bottom than to top(average 11). 2nd year it averaged 12, but in its first half it did so badly that only ranked(in average) better than Jaguar(that was in a special situation), To Love-Ru, and 2 series that got cancelled fast. Only in its 3rd year did super well, with an average of 8.5 and a year half in the top 4 even surpassing Reborn, probably due to the anime. After that 3rd year it got down again and never got back.

About Inumaru, it had anime (ann here).

Yea, I remembered how it was after anime, nothing really before it, it did nicely and then fell down and never bounced back.

Edit: I found it, it says vomic, though it's flash anime, it had 'normal' vomic too like you said.

That's not very many when you consider all of the series that come through Jump on a yearly basis. I do agree that anything is possible and sometimes it happens. But it can't be denied that the odds are against any series that constantly finds itself in the bottom.

Let's not forget the series that prompted this discussion, Kagamigami, isn't even in the bottom yet!

Sure it is. It's in the bottom 5 this week. Without GH and Rogii being buffers, it's almost assured to be in the bottom 5 again next week, this time even lower. Again, I hope I'm wrong.

Speaking from personal experience, that sounds like one is trying to convince themself that the inevitable isnt coming to pass :(. 5 6 7 8 is a clear sign of freefalling.

See Lehran's post, it is not in the bottom five. Wait until the other series start getting ranked during the summer to announce its doom. It's in fine position.
