Shogakukan Award is big but depend on your definition of big

Shogakukan beside from 2003 (where FMA won), the shonen category is generally between stuff from Shogakukan (so Sunday, etc..) and Shuiesha (SJ, (children company) and ONLY shonen stuffs.
So essentially stuffs from Weekly Shonen Sunday and Weekly Shonen Jump

It is similar to the Kodansha Manga Award imo lol.

What would be the biggest award? Can someone make a top 3?

In my experience, the only awards that tend to have noticeable impact on boosting sales are Kono Manga ga Sugoi and Manga Taisho. (although pretty minor for Taisho)

Tezuka Osamu Cultural Prize
Sugoi Japan Award
Shogakukan/Kondansha

Taisho and Kono Manga ga Sugoi are more like promotion for new upcoming manga so the criteria is much slimmer but they're generally more impactful in pushing sales. Think of it like the People's Choice of manga awards.

in my opinion and i think they have some correlation
Tezuka Award (Tezuka Osamu Cultural Prize), follows by Manga Taisho then publishers award then a bunch of internet survey

Since Tezuka/Taisho cover ALL magazines and not limited to Shogakukan/Kodansha. Taisho limitation is only 8 volumes by the time for nomination, while Tezuka is you just have to be good, doesn't matter how many volumes there are.

And the most important thing is, all recognition/exposure = boost, small or large.

edit: Sugoi Japan Award is pretty new so i don't know how big it is.

Pretty big but you're right its new. I just know that Taisho is largely for promotion of new undiscovered works rather than notoriety. Tezuka is the highest form of award any manga can get One Piece has been nominated two times and didn't win any so its not a stable based on popularity.

It should also be noted that only the Tezuka award is for a mark of generally quality of the work. Kono Manga Sugoi is more or less a listing asking "which manga should you be reading". the Sugoi Award is asking "which manga should be an international success" and Shogakukan/Kondansha are always geared towards which series is the most popular the latter is considered more of a gimme award for Shogakukan and Kondansha titles than Shuiesha ones unless there's nothing for that year. I think one year both Fairy Tail and Air Gear tied for first place and both just so happen to be Kondansha published manga. :3c

One piece was nominated 3 times by fans 2000,01,02 (received the greatest number of nominations from manga fans) so i don't know how the nomination worked exactly. Then there is a committee to pick the winner.

If you look up the way they handle Manga Taisho i say it has a long process too. 3 rounds, lots of nominations from the bookstore, then lots of committee

Tezuka Osamu Cultural Prize is THE manga award, but I'd think that it would be pretty hard for any Jump manga to ever get it. Perhaps for New Creator, though.

GOAT mangaka can only accomplish that. I mean what manga better represents Tezuka than a remake of the World's Greatest Robot arc?

I just remembered Pluto is getting an anime, I'm so excited for that.

To keep things on topic, is Mazinger the only big WSJ robot related manga?

It's something... So Mazinger is from none other than Go Nagai and Slump is from none other than Toriyama Akira, I guess that's the condition you need to have a succesful robot related manga in WSJ, you need to be a legend.
