Trying to be like RahXephon, Eva, and Eureka Seven but with extra fan service
And you know the thing with all those shows is that they were all amalgams of other famous mecha anime but they still stood out. The vibes I'm getting from Franxxx is that its trying to be Eva and its trying to be Eureka Seven with none of the appeal. The characters being nothing but archetypes doesn't help either but surprisingly I do like Miku/Zorome pairing out of the rest because at least they give me something to work with. But really I can't get over how disappointed I am with the look of this show its telling a lot when the manga adaptation of it is doing a better job of selling you its appeal than the anime itself but that's Yabuki for ya. So yeah its pretty meh at the moment.

Darling in the Franxx have been pretty good so far for me so I disagree. Nishigori is doing a good job as director/scenario/storyboarder, as A-1 staff of the project and Trigger is doing. After all, the majority of the staff are ex-Gainax that worked on Gurren Lagan, Evangelion and other things including Nishigori, Imaishi and others. In the end it's a revival of that time in this collaboration between them.

I dont think Im asking for too much, I just want femchars to make a meaningful contribution to the major manga storyline or to leave a meaningful relevant impression. Ochako losing to Bakugou in the 2nd season doesnt really matter in the context of the major manga storyline. Jirou's aspirations to be a rockstar and being a DJ/teaching music doesnt really matter in the context of the defeat of the League of Villains. And to be equal opportunity, Im still waiting for my Kaminari to get his big moment in HeroAca (not that I dislike him being the guy that is literally always smiling in panels.)
Its called character development bait. Not every character's actions has to be towards the main plot but getting to know the character through their struggles is often times more important than their significance to the plot. If you've built your story solely on your plot development and not your characters than all you're left with is a very dull story featuring characters you don't care for whereas franchises like Dragonball has strived for years because people love the characters.
Assassination Classroom had no issue making its characters have relevant meaningful contributions to the major storyline, so I cant see why Horikoshi struggles to do likewise.
Yes it did. That manga became the Nagisa show after a certain point and most of the characters outside fujobait Karma didn't really have anything to do hence why sideplots like Ryouma getting Itona to be his lackey stood out because it gave us a break from Nagisa wank.

This is more of an A-1 production than a Trigger since they've handled the most episode thus far with Trigger's only contribution being a lackluster action sequence in the latest episode, if this was suppose to be the turnaround point of the show then they did a pretty poor job turning people around or at least the ones not blinded by Trigger hype like they were for all their shows even colossal flops like Ninja Slayer and Kiznaiver.

I wish we had more Katniss/Tris/Teresa's in shonen jump mangas.
Relevant to what Mr. Sharkbait, What part of the story should they be contributing more to?

I see what you mean on those two, they're so unlikeable it actually gives you incentive to see if their characters develop into something attractive to the viewer. The mc being beta doesn't help, but at least dude's not unlikeable while 002 has positives. So it's cool, feel like it's doing enough in all phases to be entertaining and really that's all to it. Sci fi mecha and slice of life are up there as the most worst and boring genres. Like seriously, the show "I Don't Have Many Friends" is probably the best sol I've watched. But this show is not making me mind it. Even people who fear oversexualized concepts might like this one too.

I don't find them unlikable but they do veer into the annoying territory and yes you're right I do want to see them get better given episode 3 showed that despite their bickering they do care about one another.

The problem with the sexual themes is that they're so in your face that you can't help but groan at how overt their are like the whole pilot getup and it doesn't help that the show has this tone that it wants to be taken seriously its the complete opposite of Kill la Kill which was completely self aware of its sexuality that it being in your face with it made it more hilarious because they went all out with it. Also after watching Devilman Crybaby this season the sexual themes of Franxxx feel incredibly tame in comparison. I'm glad you liked it though I just couldn't find anything to enjoy for myself so far.

This. I hate when the characters act only as tools to make the plot progress. They don't feel real to me. I need some breath. If, I dunno, One Piece had the crew thinking and talking about finding the treasure all the time, I would have stopped reading already.

When people say "strong", do you mean like physically strong characters who can beat up bad people?
When I talk about "strong" characters, I talk about those whose ideals, even if represented minimally, has a major impact on either the story or a MC or other major characters. This is where All Might's sensei comes in. We know she was killed. We know she was not powerful as All Might. But just from the few things we do know of her about how she imparted the necessities of being a hero into All Might, how she told him to smile and taught him to show only that side to people he saves and what it takes to be a hero. All that alone, she is a stronger character than All Might even if her screen time was via some small flashbacks and we still haven't seen her face clearly. To me, personally, that's what a strong character should be.
That's why I consider Rukia to be strong. How she was still unwavering despite her powers being taken away from her, how she let Ichigo fight his demons (the grand fisher), how she believed in her friend and his ability after learning about not interfering the hard way (via Kaien's death), and everything ChocoBar9 said.
Nami is a strong character. Not because of her abilities or her sexiness or nonsense like that. Because of the Arlong arc. Where it showed her human side but also showed how much she endured as a character, as a human being and still put up a front and tried to survive in a world that let her down. These are strong characters.
Not some female character beating a big baddy. Sure, she might be a badass. But that's not a strong character.

Jolyne from JoJo. I think she is the best representation of what i mean imo of course.
Damn straight she is. Glad someone brought her up. Jolyne is best girl. Araki in general is great at writing females mainly since part 4 till now.

Do you really count the hideout arc as participation? They were left behind from the start to finish! Didn't remember any relevant contributions in the other ones as well.
I want to see more scenes like Shokugeki, where girls actually participate.
In USJ they were all fighting the VA with Tsuyu saving Deku and Mineta
In the forest arc Urakara and Tsuyu fought Toga and Momo saved Jirou and Toru while also placing a tracker on a Nomu which was a key for the heroes to find the hideout.
Kamino had Momo participating in Todoroki's and Kirishima's plan and stoping them from killing yourself.
Hideout Raid had Urakara and Tsuyu fighting one of the Hassaikai of Death and (unintentionally) saving Deku and Nighteye while assisting in apprehending Chisaki. Now people's problem with this is that they had the least amount of screentime in comparison to the males (Kirishima/Fat Gum/Tamaki all had 3 chapters a piece fighter their respective Hassaikai, Mirio by himself also had 3 chapters and Deku had 5 fighting Chisaki) not because they were useless had Hori highlighted their involvement and gave them more panel-time people wouldn't have questioned their contribution but more than likely due to his condition at the time he had to streamline their fight to wrap up the arc.

You hit the nail on the head. My favorite Jump "heroine" (yes according to the author) is Dakki from Houshin Engi and is the only female character from a Jump manga I would deem is complex due to the amount of depth the author put into her (and he did this with all his characters which the new anime will unfortunately skip over) and she's not some "I'm just as strong as the guys" power house but a genius who spends her time mentally fucking with the characters throughout the story and despite all the heinous stuff she commits winds up saving the MC in the end and gets what she wants and despite all that she isn't a writer's sue like Anna but a fully realized character that develops and is arguably more interesting than the MC which the only other antagonist from a Jump manga that accomplishes that feat is Raoh. As I said that so many people have such a confused notion of what is considered a strong female character that apparently just having them showing up the males is considered a positive reinforcement and not a determent but I'll tell you this there's a reason why people considering Sakura the worst Jump heroine despite her getting stronger in Part 2 and Rukia one of the best despite the fact that she's not a prowess in battle and stayed relatively weaker than most of the cast towards the end.

May I add another prime example, for one particular series still running
Kamui and his shitty drama dragged her down a peg. As heroines go she's definitely the most unique.

Still, doesnt take the fact that she is a powerhouse in her own right, is barely a damsel in distress, and does contribute to the action

Inoue is the real master troll. Not one, but two highly acclaimed series he put on hiatus. Basketball is his passion so I'm pretty sure Vagabond is dead

Yoooo, someone gotta translate that interview asap!

Weird how SD never got an anime reboot all these years. The manga is more popular than Dragon Ball too in Japan. (at least copies in print)

I thought Vagabond is close to being finished? Or was it like that for a long time?

Probably because the anime wasn't as successful as it's manga and also Dragon Ball and Dragon Ball Z were as anime.
