The only title in its roster than I can see it could end soon is Shokugeki. Tbh I always thought main reason of Viz not picking anything since 2017 was lack of space.

Maybe with HxH entering in hiatus again and one slot open 'cause ''Jump Start'' ends for now... dunno.

They got the whole batch of Red Sprite, Love Rush, and Neverland because a bunch of big series had either just ended or were about to end and they desperately needed stuff to fill space. Even if 2 flopped right away they fulfilled their purpose of making their magazine not feel empty after the loss of Bleach and Nisekoi.

Now that Neverland, WNL, Dr Stone, and RxL stayed around they don't need to fill space any longer, so there's no point in them picking up anything that's not a huge success. People like you just whine whenever they pick up a flop (and even when they don't pick up flops now I guess). Their continued avoidance of Kimetsu is certainly odd but it didn't exactly have the strongest start.

Otherwise all their choices from the past couple years have made sense (except RWBY but I feel like that must have been a Rooster Teeth sponsorship or something rather than Viz's choice since none of the magazine staff even liked the series, going by comments in the Podcast).
God forbid that I actually wish for something better than what we have, forbid that I desire for more content to be brought over, especially since there are a lot of things they can bring over, even from JUMP SQ or +. They have the resources and can provide their customers with more, but nah. But I should just be happy with them being complacent and lazy. They never bothered to fill in the gap left by World Trigger's hiatus either.

Avoiding picking up a bunch of immediate flops is hardly being complacent and lazy.

I thought RWBY was because they already do the Dogs manga from the same writer. & magazine.

OK then, I'll just be optimistic and hope they add things later. :derp

Of course they added TPN, LR and RS, they were desperate since so many things ended, but of course even with this desperation they refused to look into Kimetsu, which after a while it was clearly not on death's door, especially because of all the big manga were finishing left or right. At least Kimetsu had larger chances of staying in for a long time instead of LR and Red Sprite and they really could've used a new action series. If I remember correctly, they took their time even with BNHA, which was obviously an instant hit and something that would stay for a long time, instead of just instantly going for it. They also decided to ignore Haikyuu.

What I should be doing instead is wait for a big veteran to come with a new manga and then I can predict for sure what they'll get.
When those three series started Kimetsu was still looking dead though... and by the time it wasn’t, the 6x round came by, at which point it was way easier to pick those 3 brand new series.

The problem with Yaiba is it took long to take off, and so they couldn’t catch up in the magazine, which would allow them to massively streamline the process as it’s digital only. So they needed to do it by volumes, but because Viz do most of their stuff physically, it takes 12-18 months to get a new series out on shelves=massive delay. Same thing with TPN and Dr Stone, Vol one only releases once they’re at 60-70chs despite 3/4 of the work already being done. Also why Kodansha is so quick, because they do everything digital first (Grand Blue physical comes out almost 1yr after digi vol 1)

I’m not 100% sure, but I imagine they already had a solid lineup when BnHA started, so not much reason to include it instantly. Otherwise it’s probably an outlier. HQ was a sports series which were known for floppjng massively in the US. Things have changed, but back in those days there was undeniable proof of that.

As for Jump Plus series, they do quite a lot in their free section actually. For Jump Sq, Twin Star is fhe only series that’d be worth adding financially, and obviously they know from volume sales it isnt worth adding, or they probably would have,

OK, so they're playing it extra safe with WSJ manga, great! What about some Jump+ or Jump SQ titles? They brought over Kenshin Kyoto from SQ, but that instantly went into hiatus and never bothered to replace it with anything, like with World Trigger, but who cares.

Oh and what if a manga doesn't instantly flop but they still don't bother to get it anyway, because why would they, right? Things are all good now, why would they provide more to their clients, it's not like they have access to a huge library of exciting things from Japan.

Kimetsu was much more alive than LR and Red Sprite, that's for sure, it's not that they couldn't catch up with it, they didn't want to. Yeah, I guess Viz do like to get extra comfortable, considering their BnHA logic.

Of course Viz didn't pick it up, they don't make good decisions ever and they are very incompetent, so I would've been more surprised if they had picked it up. When was the last time they even added something from WSJ to their permanent lineup, you may ask? Freaking ROBOT×LASERBEAM, a year ago.

I don't know what the fuck they're waiting for, but they just seem lazy to me, are they waiting for some magical instant hit manga to be added to WSJ? How much will it realistically hurt them to add a new manga, even if it gets axed? They've become complacent it seems.
¯\_(ツ)_/¯ then you tried pumping out 250 to 300 pages of translated chapters every week then. Also you have to know they get the manuscript 2 weeks in advance to start working on them, meaning at the end of Jump Start they are already at chapter 5 (fact). They most likely get Japanese's reception from Japan Jump.

Not to mention they are putting out free chapters of Haikyuu every day with the intention of putting it to the magazine someday

Anything after Robo were bad anyway, why waste couple hours every week for 12 weeks translating them.

Half the line up in Jump SQ and Jump+ are boo boo anyway.

Edit: don't have to reply to me i read all the comment before this~

Sheesh cody you sound edgier than usual and that’s saying something. Relax, complaining won’t do shit. Although more Jump+ getting scanned by them sounds cool.

Anyways, am I the only one that thought Yuuna’s PV was cool? Yaya :o

You're right, I shouldn't think too hard about things like you and just enjoy life more. Complaining might not do shit, but I don't see why I shouldn't put out my ideas if I want to.

There are a lot of new and a lot more Jump+ manga they can choose from. JUMP SQ has things like Kemono Jihen and Yuukoku no Moriarty and these two will stay around for sure looking at their growth and at the current state of the magazine, or if they want something from an experienced veteran of some kind and something newer, then they can look at Demon Tune.

Thanks, I thought the same. Anime and manga are differents in the artistic aspect, they're different languages and we can't expect the exact reproduction of Miura's art.

Yuragi-sou animation is on the same level as To Love-ru's one.

Their reader survey votes also hold some wages. I have access to two votes (me and one of my friend). I remember didn't vote for Kimetsu no Yaiba but did vote for TPN and the sextuplets series.

Not really the best excuse, since Viz are the largest manga distribution company in America last time I checked
Being the largest company in a market that barely makes $100 million a year doesn't mean a whole lot, especially when the business runs on selling low margin product.

If Kimetsu Yaiba were added, how would they handle catching people up? A 2 page summary cant possible be an enjoyable way to get all the new people interested in it, and I doubt current readers would suddenly drop their scans (is it even scanned?) to wait for viz version.

Kimetsu was flopping harder than HZ back when those three started and had barely charted for the first time. I’d say going for new series was the safer option personally.

Kenshin and HxH are assured hits in the west. They were always going to be in the magazine, if there was no room they’d make it. Their “slots” dont really count. As for these “slots”, they lost Toriko, Bleach, Nisekoi and WT in 2016, and have since gained TPN, Stone, WNL, RxL. They DID replace WT.

As for Jump Plus, stuff comes and goes there like nobody’s business. Im surprised they’ve started as many as they have considering how unstable it is. Stuff is so slow to take off it takes like a year to tell if something is successful in Japan even. On your Sq recommendations, just because something is taking off in Japan, who knows if it will here. They obviously thought Black Torch was a better option than any of them.

They dont really have any reason to give us more content. The price for WSJ is so cheap I’m surprised they can even turn a profit considering how high their costs would be. Why give us more stuff that wont guarantee them sales when theyre selling a service at a fixed price? It makes no sense.

Do you really see people at this point in time on the viz reading site as well as elsewhere in viz markets talking or discussing Act Age or Noah's Notes in a manner similar to that of BLack Clover back then...exactly. For being different than the usual thing in the magazine, neither are even as definitive as TPN was.
Viz isn't available here in Germany, so I can't comment on that. But reading various opinions here and on reddit, lots of people seem to like both of them, especially Noah's Notes.

BC had lots of controversy back when it came out because of its similarities to Naruto. Despite there being quite a few people who enjoyed it right from the start, me included, there were also lots of people who didn't. And I can also understand their reasoning why they don't like it.

Plus, I don't really think it really matters how many people talk about a series, but rather how high the percentage of people is who actually enjoy the manga. Despite more people talking about BC back then, it was mostly due to its similarities to Naruto that it spread out really quickly.

It might be more precise to compare Noah's Notes and Act-Age to sth like Kimetsu or Yuna, although I wasn't around when they started, so I don't know how many people were talking about them back then.

Of course Noah's Notes and Act-Age aren't as definitive as TPN, but definitely way more likely to survive than Boze and Jujutsu Kaisen. Although even as someone who likes Act-Age, I don't see it surviving that long right now. It might be able to reach its first anniversary, but might not last much longer.

Yeah, I thought Chisaki’s design was outright gorgeous . I quite liked most of the designs tbh, they’re different but have a nice charm to them.

To add on to this marketing is nearly non-existent for manga outside of Japan because its so niche, so even if they wanted to add more series to the line up how could they get people to actually read it especially if those who read viz don't know of all other series that are out in Japan at any moment in time. Thats why anime does so well outside of japan because its easier for anime websites to market new series to people since people are more then likely to watch an adaptation of something in video form then actually read the original source.

I just pray Jujutsu, Bozebeats, or Ziga is added. Id love to own them and place them on my many shelves on manganime.

And also a Ziga anime would be pretty amazing especially if done by the Owari No Serafu staff please happen.
