I'm like 90% sure it'll get serialized. Especially with so many new titles that are getting axed and his past 2 series were huge hits. Anything can happen though but I'm very confident in my boy, Shimabu.
the series by Sakano Asahi (Tabata's assistant) looks like the return of Amalgam of Distortion
new series by Atsuhiro Kudou, Cyan Steam will probably pick it up because they do everything he does
Morita's interview was the most enjoyable. Funny guy. I miss him.
Usuta was somewhat contradictory. On one hand he was harsh, saying that the editors now are too soft and that in the 90's the pressure of the cancellation helped to create more intense series, but at the same time he says that the advantage of him doing a gag is that there was no rivalry. Plus: Jaguar never seemed like the kind of series that had to worry about cancellation. So...
I read it as the editors are playing it too safe, which he's right about. The editors of Shonen Jump tend to be in their 20s and maybe up to mid 30s as stated by Nakano in his TBS radio interview. These are people that began reading the magazine either just before, during or just after Jump peaked at 6.53 million first print. Sure its pointless to try to raise print numbers again but its the significance that matters more than the number. SJ became the top manga magazine despite being, as he puts it, late to the scene. They're still the top but if they want to grow again, not just in numbers but as a brand then they'll need to start pulling some big moves. The editors should also start suggesting controversial events for manga like
fridging Deku's mom or a student or even Uraraka ala Gwen Stacy
There will possibly be huge backlash but like the recent Darlifra fiasco, the attention will be back on the magazine. If its well written, unlike Darlifra, then it'll possibly go even more up.
