They get paid the same fixed salary plus profits from manga sales. .
Royalties =/= profits. What kind of publishing company give away their profit lol.

Well him and Oda are bff's, it was pretty obvious that Oda would've given him a send-off in that One Piece cover page. Most Toriko fans saw it coming.I recall Kubo having 4-5 author comments but half of them just ignored him.
Shimabukuro is Toriko author. Only Oda remembered him and not in author comments but in that One Piece cover page
Also Furudate congratulated Shimabu the following issue.*Checks* Only Oda and Sorachi congratuled Shimabukuro for Toriko end.
It lasted 8 years. Seems Shimabukuro didn't leave a footprint for his colleages.
Also anime, every episode they get residuals. To create an anime episode is usually a budget of 300k from what someone posted before, network gets bread from ratings and commercials, production committee gets money from merch and other related figures like boosted manga sales, disk sales etc, original author gets a check for using their work which may be like $200-500 dollars per episode which ain't nothing in the grand scheme. I've always heard the author is the one that pays the assistants unless they're just starting out, I think it was Keijo!!! author who said Keijo tanked partly cause no assistants that they could payHOw much money do people really expect an author to get back on merchandise like sticker packs/can badges/stationary that sell for like 3.99...and its not like they sell millions of stickers.
Id imagine Oda and co get more back based on higher price types of merch, as well as shows and other events, and probably the residuals from the anime, any advertising that uses one piece, more than selling stationary.
"Profits" per volume. The publisher will give them the exact same pay while everything they make comes from royalties.Royalties =/= profits. What kind of publishing company give away their profit lol.
The big difference is that mangaka do retain the rights to the series that gets published while game devs get fuck all since the publisher can just go to another company to make a game and retain all the assets. You don't see any stories of an artist getting canned and the publisher hiring a new author who draws exactly like him as a replacement to keep the series running the entire series just gets outright canned. This was actually a thing that Kodansha tried to do to their artists which didn't bold well.Ignoring merchandise for a second, and you will see it looks just like any publishing companies
Game dev gets money to make game, than when the game sold they get a percentage cut, the rest the publishing company keep to cover expense and make profit
Yes that's what I meant they still get profits from how much is made per volume everything else goes to the company but that's still a a disproportionate amount compared to the royalties made through licensing.Book + manga authors get money to write/draw, then they get a percentage for the number of volumes printed, the rest publishing company keep to cover expense and make profit.
Also if you think about it is way easier to pay them royalties through printed number not sales number. One pay check and done, more if that volume gets reprinted.
Nak could make some good GM moves for once a make a trade for Marry Grave, could help the franchise out.I had a weird funny dream about this thread
someone posted spoilers and the toc and in them it said "new series by Kotoyama" and people started pointing out this is Jump's response to Sunday snatching Yagi and Yagyuu
I however said the spoiler were obviously fake because "this is too good for Nak the hack to think of"
anyway, I should stop reading Dagashi kashi before going to bed
on a serious note, If Sunday keep doing this Jump should play it an eye for an eye and steal one of their artist
I would love to see Kotoyama or Shinobi no mangaka in Jump
These sales are also slightly lower than they might be, even though they're higher than previous volumes because of that huge typhoon. I mean OP did 140k more than volume 88 despite having 3 extra days of sales. We'll see next week how much they grow from these initial numbers as there are still places in Japan that haven't gotten their copies of the volumes. Jujutsu Kaisen is killing it though. It'll most likely overtake Stone next volume.1437550 1441771 One Piece #90

Toriko just wasn't as big or influential as Bleach or Naruto were. Same reason hardly anyone said anything about Kuroko No Basket ending despite its mass appeal.I never got why a lot of mangaka's didn't congraulate Shimabu. At the time, I've seen people claim it was a generation/age gap and a lot of the mangaka's were new but I don't think that's the case. I highly doubt they don't know what Toriko is, especially mangaka's like Horikoshi/Tsukasa who had series serialized during the time of Toriko's major push. Those two mangaka's in particular should've said something.
This is kind of a bold claim to make without supporting it with numbers or at least estimates. Otherwise, those 8-15% of book royalties have always been reported as the main source of income for a mangaka. The salary, or manuscript payment, usually is barely enough to cover the taxes, staff salary and daily necessities.Yes that's what I meant they still get profits from how much is made per volume everything else goes to the company but that's still a a disproportionate amount compared to the royalties made through licensing.
You do realize your data is incredibly outdated right? And One Piece's merchandise revenue triple that amount it was during that time period. Hell your data for its manga is when it's adjusted print run was still bellow 4 million. There's also the fact that you can't use one mangaka's adjusted income as the base for all of them because most don't publicly disclose that sort of information. Mangaka like Oda is always going to be the exception because One Piece always among the Bandai's top grossing franchise every year but to say that no mangaka gets anything from licenses is false given how they're well-known mangaka who sruvive purely based on royalties their properties make while never actually releasing a new volume.stuff.
give act age a chance, acting is fun. Jump is going through a strange transition right nowThe success of mediocre manga like KnY and JuJutsu show that audiences are clammoring for decent battle manga. I have no clue what the EiC is thinking. He needs to be moved to a basement office.
Wouldn't call KnY mediocre its very unique by battle manga standards even if the story plays with the same beats as its predecessors but I agree that Jujutsu is very derivative and just managed to find an audience by sheer luck. I do like the fact that despite the demand for more battle manga Jump is trying to reach out into more alternative sub genres so the magazine doesn't become over-saturated like it was the last decade. The success of mediocre manga like KnY and JuJutsu show that audiences are clammoring for decent battle manga.
