The thing is I don't know if Shueisha themselves are 100% confident about Samurai 8. The first chapter, despite having probably the most pre-release hype and advertising of any series in Jump history, debuted to a pretty mixed reaction, and with Volume 1 having been pushed back to October, it's up for debate if it even will have any hype remaining by that point. Launching a bunch of series alongside it is probably because they figure that new creators have a better track record than returning ones.

Huh? I don’t think New creators have ever been proven to be more or less successful than veterans.

Veterans flop, and new artist flop.

The difference with Kishimoto and any other veteran is that he’s the creator of one of the 3 most successful manga of all time. So it’s more than just a veteran coming back.

Eh, there is an expectation I think with returning creators that isn't present with new ones, which tends to backfire once the returning fans lose interest for whatever reason. Togashi, Yabuki, Ohba/Obata and Matsui all got around that because their big comebacks were completely different to their prior hit in some way, and thus pulled in an entirely new fanbase.

I disagree with that.
I think most returning veterans come back with something that’s different, but still has a similar vibes to their previous series(at least from the early on chapters).
I don’t think anyone author returned with a series that’s night and days, but at the same time all of them come back with something different enough.

I don’t theres a deciding factor as to what’s a success and what’s not. It’s all a mix of several different factors.

I don't disagree with you there, honestly. The danger is more that veteran creators have the caveat that their hype will always go down from Chapter 1, when for new creators it can potentially rise.

The situation with Samurai 8 is already showing eerie parallels with Robot x Laserbeam. A major creator returns to Jump with a bunch of massive buzz around his return, the series being about an idea he always wanted to do and Shueisha clearly hoping for his return to be another pillar of the magazine, only for the series to under-preform as it fails to gain new fans for one reason or another and old fans slowly leave as the original hype cools, and the series gets unceremoniously axed after a year or so of serialization, when new series that naturally built up buzz over time have risen up.

Not only that, reading a series writen by Fujimoto and get surprised about weird things happening in it.
Also we are talking about a magazine where in a series a women become a zombie and eat her baby or some things in Dragon Ball (like the androids or some jokes at the begining).
Wait, what? In what series a woman becomes a zombie and eat her baby?

well, shonen jump has never been to seals in other manga genres other than battle shonen, of course you have a haikyuu or a slam dunk of life but the main one has always been the battle, the others have always been in the background.
everyone remembers the old trinity of the jump; Naruto, bleach and one piece.
this is an old thinking is not because of the current president (Nakano).
While WSJ is mostly known for the battle series, since the 80s it had also gag manga, romcom and sports series as well as options. It's not as varied as Shonen Magazine, for example (which now have like 8 romcom long other genres) but it does have some.

I'm guessing no but has anyone heard any update on Shiro Moriya? At the end of Soloist in a Cage Chapter 10 it mentions a hiatus due to him suddenly falling ill. Chapter 10 went up March 1 and there's been nothing I can find since which is a little worrying so just curious if anyone who follows the Japanese side closer has heard anything.

Nope. He's vanished, by all appearances.

Random note, but Samurai 8 is the one time the line clarity of all things is a significant talking point I'm seeing with a manga.

Wait, what? In what series a woman becomes a zombie and eat her baby?
I think that might have actually been Jojo, Phantom Blood. Dio agrees not to eat a woman's baby if she lets him turn her into a zombie, but then her hunger drives her to eat the baby instead.

On a side note, I don't think Samurai 8's first volume being released in August means anything, Yui Kamio and The Last Saiyuki are both having their first volumes come out in July, and I doubt either of them are being switched to a monthly schedule.

Wasn't Volume 1 delayed to October? Also, four months till Volume 1 seems to be the norm.

Oh, I guess I was mistaken. Regardless, if it's just one extra month I don't think it's that odd.

I still think it's strange myself, considering that Volume 1 will most likely only contain 6 chapters, meaning it'll be nearly 20 chapters behind the serialization. What merit does holding off that long have, especially when there's the danger the hype will die down?

While I actually believe that the august release date was more likely a place holder, I had some free time so might as well do this

gap between ch.1 to vol.1 release date (physical, yes this designation is important)

only most recent, put both cases for S8,

Yui & saiyuki are estimates just in case

I would say that September is the sweet spot, and October is a tad bit late, especially considering the page counts, maybe that have something planned to up the synergy? (i.e. alongside boruto or something,)

personally If I were to delay volume is to better gauge reaction to avoid overprint.

I do want to say, solely based on maths, all the later series have a chance of debuting before S8

That's true. Totally forgot about it.

Shonen magazine has never invested in either Battle shonen or jump, so much so that the best known are just fairy tail and rave that are from mashima and nanatsu from taizai. Even the sunday has more successful battle shonen than the magazine even though it also does not invest as much.

Lolwut? You clearly don't know much about Jump in the early 2000's.
Bleach was not part of a "big 3".

Why do you keep lying on the internet? WSM has had plenty of popular action manga like Air Gear, Negima, SDK, and Getbackers just to name a few.

I did not specify the year, I spoke vaguely, I did not say exactly whether it was 2000 or not.
then it's no use making me disinformation.

Ranking doesn't dictate popularity though? It's a promotional device.
