So, I have a question that's been on my mind for some time. Why isn't there more Jump manga with anthropomorphic characters? I mean, the Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles are still really popular. Yojimbo was popular, etc. In a separate magazine Beastars is extremely popular.

It just seems like a concept that's really underutilized.
Even though it's the obvious answer, I'm surprised that no one mentioned Horikoshi's first work, Oumagadoki Zoo.

Its simple, MHA was a hit right away considering it's Volume 1 sales, so it only made sense that it would be placed high in the TOC, meanwhile Stone is 10 volumes in and cant even break 100k a month but it still continues to be placed ahead of every other series in the magazine despite it's average sales

PD: I hope we get the Jujutsu anime announcement soon. It would be interesting to see how would it affect to its reception in West. And Pierrot, get your hands away from Jujutsu.
I've seen MAPPA thrown around. Any chance there?

It’s almost like the TOC has no connection to sales at all

Thing is, It should have? At least a bit since sales mean the series is doing a good work and it's attracting audience for its volumes, hence people would like to read It on the magazine first? It's kind of a weird and exceptional case.

Of course there are a loooooot more cases and different situations for series, like those who are already established and its position being lower or higher doesn't usually mean anything like Haikyu!!, Neverland or HeroAca; series that keep being there cuz of whatever like Hinomaru, and a laaaaarge etc. But eh, I think there are some more series that deserve those kind of privileged spots in the magazine when their performance is better than Stone's.

I mean, Dr. Stone is a very good series. Honestly, I don't feel like anything in the magazine that's high ranking is undeserving, quality-wise.

Having only the high sellers rank highly would be boring, IMO.

Tbh with the amount of push and promotion that Dr. Stone has received, even greater than Toriko and Black Clover, its sales are an absolute embarrassment for Jump.

Worth noting I'm fairly sure Stone's sales are in large part because it doesn't appeal to female readers.

It obviously doesnt because Haikyu!! and MHA would be at the top every week, the original point was "why is everyone okay with MHA placing high but not Stone" and the reason being is that MHA was a hit right away so it only made sense for it to have a high placement whereas Stone hasnt done anything yet it contiunes to be top 3 every issue. Its not hard to see why people would have a problem with Stone but not MHA

I mean, this discussion is kinda pointless anyway. The anime is about to air, so we'll find out once and for all if the push was ultimately worth it.

I'm thinking it will be, but we'll see.

But what difference does to us readers if Jump is pushing or not Dr. Stone? That's one point I don't understand. It's not like MHA or other big series are threatened to be axed or something like this just because Dr. Stone "is getting pushed".

It's a good manga and there's nothing like it in the magazine at this moment. It's not the best manga and it's not the best seller but it's selling ok, so I don't see the point why it can't be promoted. I don't even think it's a demerit to Dr. Stone, because if it is being pushed, it means it has its value, doesn't it?

Correlation is not causation, innit.

Though also like don’t look up Maison du Penguin or Shinritsu Poseidon Gakuen.
Sometimes things are placed high for other reasons than sales, historically

People will probably accept Dr Stone pushing if at least it shows some effect,Just look at TpN. TpN pushing is no joke(countless CP,TV show,Author Recommendation) but no one question it because it show some effect(in this case great effect) unlike Dr Stone.

Why do you think Stone doesn't appeal female readers?

For me it's mainly how the west treats the series because of this kind of thing in Japan. I mean, looking at the treatment Stone has been getting for a while now but things like Jujutsu or AA keep being unnoticed (AA more than JJK). It's not that Dr. Stone shouldn't be pushed, but Let's not forget that there's more series in the magazine that could appear in high places and be a bit more noticeable.

My main issue with Dr.Stone is what RafGL has said. Is by far the Jump title with most pushing (the one which receives the most covers together with Neverland, plus special promotion). Kimetsu for example has also had anime debut last season and it has had very little promotion from Jump. Similar stuff with Black Clover when anime aired.

Moving to Jujutsu Kaisen, you can see how it has the very same sales number as Dr.Stone with 4 less volumes, and basically no promotion. The pushing movement has in my opinion an effect in West: it has helped Dr.Stone as people started commenting ''it is the next pillar of Jump", while...almost nobody knows or cares about Jujutsu.

PD: I hope we get the Jujutsu anime announcement soon. It would be interesting to see how would it affect to its reception in West. And Pierrot, get your hands away from Jujutsu.
Nobody cares cuz there is no anime. Nobody gave a fk when haikyuu and BC didnt had their anime. Drstone applies easy on the west with science and apocalypse that is deeply rooted in USA. Not every manga can be an hit, it takes time. Jjk will be soon known when the anime arrives

I agree with you, but if I recall Black Clover had already a fanbase (and anime didn't help at all. T-thanks Pierrot). The most similar case would be Kimetsu which also had already a little fanbase in /a/. Jujutsu Kaisen meanwhile has nothing, which surprises me despite having bigger numbers at volume 7 than Black Clover or Kimetsu.

The major thing about the "the west loves Dr. Stone but clowns JJK and AA" argument is really simple: Dr. Stone has so far been available in its entirety here. There is as of yet no way to legally read all of JJK and AA, hence why they go ignored by many people because they literally have no way to read them legitimately.
