Anyone know whatever happened to the Takamagahara author? Did the terrible reception to it really make him go MIA and quit his mangaka career?

Im also surprised Sakaki Kenji (Enigma) never came back to the main mag. Always thought her next work would be a bonafide hit in Jump.

Have you ever seen the page in the volumes listing all the people that had to help them finish? It’s probably more that experience of not being able to work without tons of assistance that killed his career more than the reception

I still won't give up on Saiyuki until the last chapter comes out and I'm sure it's not in the next issue, but God people aren't even giving it a chance. I bought my copy to support the dream, but I could really see the cover not grabbing anyone, if nothing else.

Much worse. Illegal Rare Vol 1 sold 38k in 5 days. Kamio Yui Vol 1 around 6-7k in 4 days.

With how much KnY selling these days do you guy think it have a big chance to beat MHA this year?

Right now it seems between close between them, and Kimetsu beating it handily.
Kimetsu caught up to around 600k-700k of MHA so far (not counting volume 16), and is selling around 150k-200k in backlog sales every week, while MHA does around 50k or less.

Typical buzz words thrown into the mix to get people who would not have checked a series out otherwise to try it. Throwing the massively popular TPN's name into the mix does just that. Nothing to be surprised about tho. It's how everyone promotes anything.

It does happen actually. But the series has got to have had the exposure and reception to get that to happen. Dr. Stone might be the time of manga that takes time to grow in sales. I remember WT sales took a long time to grow to reach where it is today.

35k in 4 days Volume 1 sales for a manga that is not based on anything popular, or does not have a popular mangaka? That would be beyond amazing.
