Both produced highly successful series, but neither came close to Naruto's 15 year, 700 chapter run.
Then Kochikame or JJBA are more successful than Naruto ?

I think that's a wrong statement to make, tbh.

I mean Slam Dunk was much more important to Japan though. It didn't sell as much as Naruto only because it didn't last as long.
If you look at volume sales, it averages at 3.9 million a volume which is far greater than what Naruto has. He came back with Vagabond which again if you look at how much it sold with respect to number of volumes (82 million from 37 volumes), it was pretty impressive.

Then there is also Real which is doing just as impressive.

Kochikame IS more important. It was Jump's face for 4 decades.

thinking about what Jovan and the others have said, chapters 2 and 3 of samurai 8 are practically fillers, since the story has not walked, the protagonist is still on his planet and will not start looking for the keys in fact.

TPN and Chainsaw had great chapters this week! And for both a "WTF" can be applied.

If there’s not a JoJo’s reference in the first chapter of Beast Children, my disappointment will be immeasurable and my week ruined.

Well, I haven't read Samurai 8 yet (legal release and all), but the knowledge of the whole thing with Nanashi being a plot diversion is...worrying. The last thing Jump readers seem to want from my perspective is wasted time, and, unless Kishi manages to use the remaining three chapters he has to set up a proper arc, he's gonna be in trouble. Combine that with the evergoing complaints about the art being unclear and overdone, and you're looking at a manga in a very precarious situation.

Well, with no one of Kishimoto tier being capable of generating back to back hits (unless there is president for this), this was to be expected and shouldnt surprise anyone.

Re: Samurai8, I also think the MC's sad backstory about his condition and all has been thrown away just like that. Imo, it would have been much interesting if we saw him struggling with that and trying to improve his skills slowly. But no, now it's like all that never existed, MC is happy-go-lucky, and from Chapter 1 suddenly skilled as well.

Naruto was such a fantastic balance of a main character that had OP powers but had weaknesses in utilizing skills with low experience. So you would want to see how he improves and progresses. I just do not care about Hachimaru for now. Period.

Kishimoto should have branched out into something that wasnt Ninjas and Samurai and the same world. Its basically like Hiro Mashima taking Fairy Tail into space, sure its a continuation, but we want to see both do something a bit more than limiting themselves.

Everyone should have done like Horikoshi and at least changed completely and entirely.

oh this yes. would have been interesting if he stayed disabled/attached to the machine, was compelling. Now its basically like a poor man's naruto spinoff with an overpowered self-insert OC.

I don't mind episodic beginnings, Yu-Gi-Oh pre-card game reboot for one had it, but it's strength was that it was very varied in it's Game of the Week concept (even if a bit repetitive with an OP MC) before utilizing arcs like Kaiba's Shadow Duel or Shadi's Test etc. But plot diversions this early on is eh.

That was over 20 years ago. Nowadays, going into plot diversions is something battle manga actively avoid this early on.

I never said that what you wrote wasn't true (which it is, obviously, so I agree), was just saying that I *personally* (not survival or success in WSJ wise) don't mind episodic chapters if well done. S8 doesn't do them well (for now).

It feels like my comparisons to Toriko are getting more and more apt each week...

David-kun :( Words can't express how sad I am about it ending, even if it wasn't a surprise whatsoever. When's Numa Shun going to save us with another comedy?

Now that it's been a bit of time, has it been confirmed that Japan is leaving WSJ?

It's incredible how Horikoshi can go from an incredible hype arc (pro hero) to a boring, stretched out one (A vs B) to another hype arc (current one).
Shame that he doesn't make the students' dynamics as interesting as the LoV's, and that their character development is less interesting as well.
I agree, but tbf the only thing good about the LoV arc is the asspull powers suddenly developing. That and Twice's backstory was actually okay. The recent chapter was the best in probably 100 chapters.

By asspull I'm including not well foreshadowed in that definition.

------------

Sam8 vs Saiyuki.
Hell no is Saiyuki better. Kishimoto already said in an interview that he's delaying the world mechanics so the beginning can be more action-packed and appeal to kids (which we of this forum are not). And I think it succeeded in that. I'm sure kids would love the first three chapters. We've already travelled across MC's planet and gotten him to interact with lots of people, which is more than Saiyuki can say twelve or whatever chapters in. We have a sense of what Sam8's world is like.

-------------

Kishimoto Tier and back-to-back successes
Someone mentioned Slam Dunk.
Yuusei Matsui, and Shimabukuro should count.
I'm sure there are several more.

This week's chapters

Profile pics
So many ppl have Yonagi (and an expressionless face of hers as well!) that it's hard to tell who's who by image now lol.
Feeling tempted to get a Yonagi pic myself

If anything A vs B was better than the current one. Villains on MHA are the least interesting part of the series to me.

Yes, it is confirmed that Japan is leaving. Though some reported Jump+ and some Saikyo Jump
