I don't mind Sayuuki pacing that much, but there's something I have to talk about it before its cancelation: The niobyo thing is a heck of a boring weapon, don't you think so? The main chara just draw the thing and it does all the work without any physical effort. It make the almost non existent fights very weak.

BTW, call me crazy, but would it be accurate to say that the modern era is geared more to female readers than ever before? I mean, I've read sources that say most of the major hits for Jump are about 5:5 on the gender ratio reader-wise, and Dr Stone, which I imagine has the fewest female readers, is infamously the weakest preforming despite being promoted a lot. I dunno, I just think it may very well be the case.
Mangas in the jump aren't exactly 5-5 on the gender ratio even if the Jump is has a really big amount of female readers.

We have some information about the ratio of male-female readers in some mangas:

Kimetsu no Yaiba: 4-6

The Promised Neverland: 4-6

Black Clover: 6-4

We Never Learn: 8-2

I found some data from 2012, although only One Piece and Haikyuu are still in the magazine. This was the male-female percent:

One Piece 48.2 - 51.8

Haikyuu 32.2% - 62.8%

My Hero Academia should have a big amount of female readers. Act-Age may be in a similar situation.

Yuragi-sou no Yuuna-san should have a lot more of male readers (like We Never Learn).

Sooo..., what would Stone's ratio be then? I know Jujutsu has about 50% female readership as well, so I'm wondering if there's a large correlation here.

Also, what's up with that HQ ratio? Why is there about 5% missing?

Imo no matter how bad Samurai 8 will be, Jump won't cancel it
People were saying that about Robot x Laserbeam, and look what happened.

Assuming neither of them burns out, Samurai 8 will go 200 chapters minimum.

Just a typo. Link has 66.8% / 32.2% (still missing one percent).

And about RxL:

Golf. That is all.

Similarly I see no evidence that Hachimaru is based on his son.
Kishi mentioned multiple times in interviews that his status as a father deeply effected how Samurai 8 was plotted out. Furthermore, Hachimaru is written in an extremely old-fashioned manner as a "Wide-eyed boy adventurer" with relatively little in the way of emotional conflict, which is very atypical both for the modern era and also Kishi's past writing (Naruto I'd argue popularized that model for Jump heroes), but makes perfect sense if the character is based on Kishi's own child.

Assuming neither of them burns out, Samurai 8 will go 200 chapters minimum.

I'm hesitant to believe that. If Samurai 8 shows no signs of growth, Jump will cancel it, ties to Kishi be damned.

Also, Samurai 8's overally complex sci-fi setting isn't exactly that much more appealing, especially with the artwork.

Regarding the matter of Haikyuu, that would've been when the series was starting out, right? I'm not sure how reliable it is as a result...

Difference is that Naruto is one of the biggest manga in history and on Jump. He has much more credit.

RxL was about golf, nothing is wrong with it but the sport isn't that popular also golf is kinda slow paced

Not gonna lie I was surprised it got 7 volumes

- You've seen Dr. Stone's sales, and that's already at 108 chapters. And the inevitable anime should help things.

- But... golf lol.

- Yeah, had three volumes out at that point, but I can see it a little bit. Boys volleyball + rumblings of the author being female.

Over praising for newer series can be equally as annoying, i.e SPY x FAMILY. It wouldn't bother me if it got axed, it's gotten that obnoxious.

Kaguya Sama fell under that same category. Good god, those characters are fucking annoying.
You are the only one here mentioned Kaguya, twice iirc. If you hate it that much, why don't you go to Young Jump thread and make an essay about how annoying those characters are, while plenty of readers keep reading and enjoying those annoying characters.

Yeah. It was 6 years ago and it was start of Haikyuu, so it isn't so reliable.

That said, it is pretty likely Haikyuu has still more female readers now. I mean 32.2% male and 62.8% female doesn't seem unlikely for Haikyuu at this time.

Dr Stone's sales have stagnated, they showed plenty of growth in the early volumes before leveling out at 90K. It really proves nothing in regards to Samurai 8, or Nakano's management.

I think golf was hardly the deciding factor in RxL's failure. It's simply that it wasn't a well laid out manga and didn't connect to readers. Let us not forget, basketball was almost completely unknown in Japan before 1990, and yet Slam Dunk is a contender for the biggest hit in Jump history when volumes per sales are considered.

What are you trolls on about lol

Rising Impact ran in WSJ for 4 years (170 chapters), and it's a golf series
Dan Doh ran in Sunday and had like 4 spin off (48 volumes total, spanning 10 years), and now they have King Golf (32 volumes, 11 years)

The problem isn't golf, Robot x Laserbeam is just bad and un-enjoyable to Jump readers.

If anything, sports being too familiar to readers would be the bigger deterrent. Would explain why there hasn't been a successful baseball in Jump for literal decades.

No one's saying there aren't successful golf series.

But we're comparing it to a sci-fi action series (however much one dislikes it) from Jump's third most successful author.

Just saying it's not that hard to get to 200 chapters.

Aaaand said sci-fi battle manga has already been eviscerated by basically everyone who isn't a Naruto fanatic for being poorly designed, confusing and uninteresting. I even saw one JP user who compard it to Gun Blazes West, which is...not a good thing.

--->Dr Stone builds up a smaller but still dedicated fandom over time that eventually levels out before the anime comes out.
--->Samurai 8 is already losing interest from readers, and we're not even done with Volume 1.

???

I don’t even dislike the manga. I think alright, and WANT it to get better. But the amount of obnoxious fans who think the manga is damn near perfect, and that we need to wait 50 chapters before forming an opinion on it is almost making me want the manga to get axed out of spite.
Not much different than MHA fans who still think the series is the greatest thing since sliced bread and get toxic as hell when you don't agree with them. The series peaked during OfA vs AfO and hasn't recovered since then but you don't see me wanting it to get axed out of spite.

Not really much to say when we have no sales trend yet. :P

If things do go south, hopefully Kishimoto (and Okubo) can make adjustments.

What does MHA have to do with anything?

The idea that Shiro Uzuzaki is less than two years my senior kinda astonishes me.

And yeah, it's easy to forget that the current generation of mangaka, Horikoshi, Tabata and so on, aren't being influenced by Dragon Ball and its contemporaries, they'll solidly inspired by the Big 3 and their ilk. It's lead to a very different feel to the current generation overall.
Yeh, Tabata used the naruto x fairy tail inspiration hugely, cuz his first manga failed.
