Small boost for Jigokuraku. I hope the boost continues to get bigger. Are there sales chart for Jigo? (that covers the sales even when it falls off the rankings)

Im curious how it does in a month for volume 5.

WT doing literally double of Soma's sales when it came from a long ass hiatus is funny as hell

I think WNL going longer than Nisekoi was pretty much impossible from the start. Nisekoi started in their first year so was able to do events like Christmas and Valentine's Day multiple times as well as introduce new kohai characters after a while that work for new antics.
WNL started in 3rd year so once Christmas and Valentine's happen they can't again. The only new character for the harem since like volume one was a senpai from cram school. It could try the college route but it would be completely different characters since sensei has to stay at high school and the rest of the harem (and Nariyuki) all have completely different goals and are aiming for different schools (Takemoto even potentially a different country).
Yeah, also nisekoi is the longest romcom series in Jump with 229 chapters with the second one having 167 chapters.
Is more possible tha haikyuu become the longest spokon in shonen Jump.

Romcom's have never had really extended runs in Jump. Of the eight which have been hits since 1983 (yeah, did you know it was that small?), only Nisekoi went over 20 volumes. Even Video Girl Ai, arguably equivalent to Dragon Ball and Slam Dunk for its genre, only ran for 13 volumes.

I guess that's just the problem with the design, there's only so long you can drag out characters dancing around their feelings and avoiding any meaningful communication.

Eight? Hmm. I’d be a little more generous than that myself (excl. ones like ishojo which wasn’t popular until it left Jump):
Kimagure Orange Road
Video Girl Ai
Bonbonzaka High School Drama Club
I”S
Strawberry 100%
Pretty Face (debatable, but Kano states that he ended the series while it was still popular, so worth considering)
To Love-ru
Hatsukoi Limited
Nisekoi
Yuuna and the Haunted Hot Springs
We Never Learn

God even being generous it’s still eleven series over that time frame. Yikes.

I mean, isn't Bonbonzaka more a gag manga? And Pretty Face and Hatsukoi ran for less than 10 volumes...

I think there is some speaking of the market here, if you look at Jump's history, none of the romcom's besides the last two overlapped, and once one hit ended, another would start up maybe a year or two later. I mean, had WNL not been a considerable hit, Cross Account could've been the hit romcom in Jump. Allow me to throw up in the toilet over that thought.

Came out a little early last week. Usually not out for another 7-9 hours.

Bonbonzaka I ummed and ahhed on, as the comedy is the main component to it, but my gut still said to include it.

As for the length of Pretty Face and Hatsukoi, I encourage you to not sweat length as too important a metric. Hatsukoi’s intertwining stories all had pretty clear end points to them, which HEAVILY impacted its length, but it still did pretty well and got an anime out of the deal, so it seems valid. Pretty Face is a little more awkward as I only really know its claim of still being popular when it ended from its final volume, which... I mean they’d say that, sure. Hence debatable on that one. Hatsukoi though? That’s legit.

I heard that Pretty Face was forced to end due to external factors, I don't know exactly what that was or if it was legit, but that might have something to do with it ending despite being popular.

So that means 9 hits with two debatable, over the course of 36 years. That's, what, a new romcom every four years? That's not that many.

So like Chinyuki then?

Yeah it’s tiny no matter how you shake it. Jump has some legendary rom-coms, but it’s definitely one of the lesser genres for the magazine overall

Cross Account was never going to work for a longer run. One trick pony which gimmick got tired by the end of Volume 1. Reminds me a lot of Kagami no Kuni no Harisugawa, literally the same thing about a gimmick that gets old fast.

The thing with jump romcom is that right now I nobody doing a hit because, what romcom author would you want to return? Komi which people want him to do something like doble arts? Kawashita, kano or Yabuki which probably don't want to return to a weekly serialization?
And in rookies side, the only ones which I think they could return and are Date , Ryohei Yamamoto and Toshinori Takayama.
But yeah, Komi is probably returning ,because I doubt he can go back to do something like doble Arts, or will happen a WNL situation where Jump use a "veteran author" who where doing a spin off (Betten Court , maybe?).
