and i think Mist Gear Blast is an adaptation of a mobile game so he might didn't write that too
Honestly, given how good his artwork is I'm surprised he hasn't found more success yet. I know artwork doesn't equal success but I just think it would have been a lot better for him had he paired up with a writer. I'm sure an editor or two may have suggested the same and now think Yoichi is just being stubborn...
Yep, Mist Gear Blast was done by a writer of Nisekoi Urabana and Binbougami ga! novels, Hajime Tanaka, and drawn by Youichi Amano.

Kamio latest chapter (kinda previous one too) was quite disappointing. I had hopes it can get better and go in the right direction, but really last chapter was so messed. It's a shame, considering it will be like 2 more years until he is back again...

Seeing the current discussion, can't remember when was the last time so many series looking like they can be cancelled right now. Saiyuki, Kamio, Beast Children, Futari, all of them seems like they can end in 2-3 weeks. And with Shokugeki and Hinomaru out, that's easily 6 free spots. Not counting TSS and its a bit early to judge it. Yet it's really unlikely that all of them end right now and get replaced. Probably like max 4 new series, meaning maybe 2 can survive for one more round. In the past we had couple of bad series surviving more because of that: having even more bad series. Considering how hard it to actually turn the table and use the chance to get established, it kinda feels pointless and unfair to other series. But, oh well. It could be all because Jump didn't expect that many series to fail and didn't start preparations for that many new series, so can't fully blame them for leaving some series for a bit more time if that's the case.

Remember the times, when Jump was so packed with big established series, that the new series had very little chance to shine and were mostly competing with each other. But once the bigger series started to end, things got better for the new series. But still can't remember the last time, when there were practically 6 free slots.
Jump should just really cancel those 5 flops(saiyuki, kamio, beast, futari,TSS), don't give them any chance and serialize a new series. Those 5 series didn't really do anything groundbreaking like TPN level of excitement on its first few chapters. Reading TPN after bleach ended, most people knew that it will be a hit judging from its first few chapters

Saiyuki is promising, and not even a little. Blame the Japanese readers. Its One of my fav from the batch. I can agree on the others, but I can see TSS surviving easily

TSS deserves to be canceled for the creator being a K-Pop fan alone.

Well, the authors of Beast children and double taisei are not k-pop fans, yet their manga is not in a good moment. I think they may be worse than TSS.

That doesn't make sense, many of the current hits in the magazine didn't have anything much "groundbreaking" in the first few chapters and they were still well received, not everything has to be a instant "groundbreaking hit" in the first chapters to survive or have the "right" to survive in the magazine

Honestly I don't think Saiyuki is promising at all. What it takes to be a surviving battle manga in the magazine is stakes, characters and battles and in Saiyuki the stakes aren't personal, the characters are too few, and the battles are too one note.

I wonder if Mashima is preparing for a potential WSJ debut? Edens Zero hasn’t really taken off in Japan as hoped and he’s done all he could there in Kodansha. Partner him up with a proper writer and we’re eating good

It's potentially worth noting a couple of things:

1) Under the current editor in chief, new series tend to run for a minimum of 19 issues. Saiyuki is past that point and definitely seems to be on its last arc, but maybe don't expect TSS / Beast Children / Taisei to leave the magazine until October at the earliest. Another 8-10 issues is also potentially enough time for any of these mangas to gain their footing, because sometimes slow starts are a thing!

2) In regards to the batch that debuted at the beginning of the Reiwa era, sales of their first tankobon might shake up the Table of Contents. Stuff that seems destined for cancellation right now may get more of a push if their first volume does really well. There's several series that get low engagement in the magazine, but good engagement with volume sales, so it might be a bit early to call all of these flops.

Does Jump even have a precedent of getting authors from other publishers? From what I've observed, it's historically been the other was around.

Also, I think Mashima feels content sticking with WSM. Eden's Zero is technically doing fine (it's introduction has actually been smoother than Samurai 8's IMO) and moving to Jump would be exposing himself to a ton of pitfalls (lest being the backlash).

I mean, when was the last time a series really has been able to pull something like that? The developments in the internet has meant the casual market has largely faded in favor of devoted communities, and none of the three are really showing the sort of community that be willing to support them.

idk who approached who but Nisio Isin was published by Kodansha long before Medaka Box. The Akame ga Kill author has a series on Jump+ right now as well.

What about Tsutsui do before WNL? All I know about is a Nisekoi spinoff.

Mashima on Shonen Jump? hahaha...no, never gonna happen, isn't the place for him, he would be eaten alive on Shonen Jump, If Edens Zero isn't even doing that great on Shonen Magazine and that is his home, imagine being in a super competitive magazine like Jump? he isn't the kind of writer for a Magazine like Jump, he plays too safe.

3 mangas on Comic Blade, a short series on Grand Jump Premium and a manga on Dengeki Daioh

If that's the case then, it sounds like it's mostly pretty lowkey creators who Jump snatches up. I certainly can't think of a "major" creator who started working for Shueisha, bar "guest" creators like NisioisN (Medaka Box) or Ryohgo Narita (Stealth Symphony). Even then, that Stealth Symphony failed shows it's hardly a foolproof method.

A good series reflected through the votes and other factor have the right to survive in the magazine that is how it always been . Though some series can still push through and gain a fanbase and be a hit for you. I wouldn't consider them a hit series since what I consider an hit differ from yours. We can just drop this topic here, and focus on the magazine news. No one wins or lose on internet argument anyways.
