Matsui sure has gotta have some wacky twist to this story, he’ll the idea of an sports manga from him is quite exciting with said added twist

I will hope he does something, because I am not interested in reading spokon #244353 with a weak or no twists at all.

The twist is that people are expecting a twist, when it's really just your typical sports manga.

Ironically, I would love that just to see people's reaction. Though I wouldn't want him to serialize something that will be ignored in West (just like Beast or Taisei).

It doesn't really matter if something's ignored in the west all that much nowadays with manga+/new viz doing everything. Though I suppose discussion would be low.

Honestly I kind of want to see Matsui tackle something more down-to-earth for a change, it's hard to imagine what it would be like after Neuro and Ass Class.

Yeah, I didn't mean this in "will it work in Japan or not". In fact, I think this would work. Kurogane lasted 70 chapters with a weak twist as such.
It would just suck that he would serialize something there wouldn't be much discussion around it.

Matsui said he studies the trends in Jump very carefully and looks for stories he can make that will survive.

Neuro was a result of going full weird and making use of his self proclaimed bad art, and making every struggle to make it interesting.

AssClass was a more balanced, moderate story which he judged to be more viable at the time

Possibly now what he thinks Jump needs is a more plain, but down to earth, small cast story?

I have nothing against a 'normal' spokon, it could be really good, and Matsui is a good writer... But there are, possibly, other authors in Jump that have the skillset for it. I'm not sure if there's anyone else that can do something weird and cool like Neuro or Ansatsu.

Well, we're talking about the author of neuro and assclass who are successful works on jump.
I think you can trust he'll make a minimally good story.

Doubt that. Classic spokon with a female love interest (just like Kurogane did). This will really need a twist though. I am actually surprised he is working on it, even the character designs are dull.

Going from the preview it does say 松井優征が正道熱血剣道ラブコメに挑戦？！which taken literally could mean he's trying his hand at a "true hot-blooded kendo love comedy", but as people are saying there might be a twist to that... or not. I guess we'll just have to wait and see but seeing what he's done before I fully believe he's gonna make something like a love comedy with a really crazy setup around kendo which no one will actually expect.

I guess we'll just have to wait and see but seeing what he's done before I fully believe he's gonna make something like a love comedy with a really crazy setup around kendo which no one will actually expect.

Guess we will see. So far the twist here seems to be "rom-com + sports".

Beast Children doesn't fit tbe small cast part, and down to earth part.
